The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

PIANA RAZE

Irwin Hellions

The Piana Raze, fighting for their playoff lives, shut down then shut out the Irwin Hellions in a Western Division slugfest. The Raze's heralded New Orleans defense preyed upon the Hellions for 25 points against, besting Irwin's Buccaneer defense and their 17 point performance. Both teams struggled on offense. Piana, having to go without a quarterback, got most of its offense from kicker Sebastian Janikoski, who booted 11 points towards the win. Edgerrin James led the Hellions with 8 points, but five other starters managed only two points or less. The shutout was a returned favor; last season, Irwin downed Piana 20-0 to close the season.

The win - Piana's second over Irwin this season - elevated the Raze into a first-place tie with the Hellions at 8-5. The fate of the division now rested in the hands of the expansion Bock Boys; a B. Boys win creates a three-way tie atop the West, but Irwin would claim the division based on its 5-3 divisonal record. Should Thomas lose, Piana would take the West on account of having swept the season series from the Hellions. All eyes fell upon the Bock Boys...

THOMAS' BOCK BOYS

Thomas posted a dramatic, come-from-behind victory over Brandon's Yellow-bellied Overweight Banshees to cap an impressive rookie season and secure a home playoff game in Week 14. Amani Toomer took an end-around to the house for the deciding score on Sunday night, and Thomas handed Brandon it's second straight tough loss. Bock Boys Daunte Culpepper, Jamal Lewis, and Robert Smith each posted double-digits towards the win. Rich Gannon (14 points) and the Bills defense (19 points) make the highlight reel for the Banshees.

The Bock Boy win forces an unprecedented three-way tie atop the Western Division, and gives Irwin the title through the divisional record tie-break. Thomas clinches the third seed going into the playoffs, and Piana claims the fourth. Brandon, despite winning four of its final six games, will play The Players in Draft Bowl IV.

THE PIMPS
61

The Pimps came alive and punished the Eastern Champion C.W.O.T. en route to snapping their six-game losing streak and securing a playoff berth. It was all offense for The Pimps, who had four starters - Steve Beurlein, Ricky Watters, Rod Smith, and Matt Stover - post double-digit points. Jody had to go two players short becasue of injury, and is lucky to just get out of town without any further damage. Having had already clinched the East, Jody will now have two weeks to get everyone healty before Championship Week. The Pimps finish the season at 7-6 and claim the total-points-for title with an amazing 498 points. As the fifth seed, they'll travel to Piana next week. Jody has now been bested by The Pimps five straight times.

Much like the Little Engine That Could, the Sims Stereco put up a heroic fight against the Anderson Brewmeisters, striking great fear into the hearts of the defending champs. Anderson bombared Sims with big-play offense as runningbacks Fred Taylor and Mike Anderson combined for 24 points behind Peyton Manning's 9. Yet the Stereco, having only five offensive starters healthy, made a game of it behind the herculean 34-point performance from its Kansas City's defense. Anderson managed to hang on for the win, marking the first time all season the Brewmeisters won a game while scoring under 30 points. Yet would their low count of 21 be enough to ward off the Abstract Machines should they post a win over The Players? Somewhere, beaten and bruised, Chris Sims is laughing...

THE PLAYERS

Abstract Machines

In what turned out to be the week's biggest game, The Players snapped their seven-game losing streak by clipping the Abstract Machines on the road. Showing flashes of greatness from '98, Muhsin Muhammad and Randy Moss torched the defesne for 13 points apiece. Moreover, The Players' improving Lion defense stripped the Machines of 14. Marshall Faulk, the heart and soul of the Machine offense, was held to just 2 points and Shaun King could only muster an additional 5. The crushing loss sends the Machines - last season's Super Bowl runner-up - home for the holidays and gives the final playoff ticket to last season's Super Bowl winners, the Anderson Brewmeisters. The win sends The Players into their third Draft Bowl on a high note.
