Week 13 Previews

Thomas' Bock Boys
at
B.Y.O.B.
(7 - 5)
(5 - 7)
series history: first meeting

Week 13 tees off with the first ever meeting between the expansion Bock Boys and expansion Banshees. Thomas seems primed to host a playoff game next week, but Brandon will likely miss the playoffs in its inaugural season. Yet both teams have been playing exceptionally well of late; Thomas has won three in a row while B.Y.O.B. has taken four of its last five. Daunte Culpepper and Robert Smith anchor a Bock Boys offense that has averaged over 50 points per game the past three weeks. Brandon will need big performances on both sides of the ball if it hopes to post the upset.

victims of the bye week:
Thomas - none
Brandon - none

Sims Stereco
at
Anderson Brewmeisters
(5 - 7)
(6 - 6)

series history: Sims leads 4-1
last meeting: Week 2
Anderson 21, at SIMS 40

They almost got away with one last week against the Machines. This week, the battered and broken Stereco look to shock the Brewmeisters. Sims will have to go short-handed yet again, only being able to start five healthy offensive players. Anderson is coming off its best perfromance of the season and is looking to make a run at an unprecedented third league championship. Yet Sims has won the last four games in this series, and might put up a fight on karma alone. Anderson needs a big win to clinch a playoff spot without relying on help. Sims, for all practical purposes, has no chance of sneaking into the postseason. This could be the last game of the year for the Stereco, bringing a welcome end to this nightmare of a season.

victims of the bye week:
Sims - REC Owens
Anderson - none

Piana Raze
at
Irwin Hellions
(7 - 5)
(8 - 4)
series history: Piana leads 5-3
last meeting: Week 3
Irwin 3, at PIANA 17

The Piana Raze have surged back into playoff contention after starting the season 1-4 and actually have a shot at stealing the West away from the Irwin Hellions. Should Piana beat Irwin, thus sweeping the season series, and Thomas lose to Brandon, the Raze would win the West. Piana is now Brandon's biggest fan, because if Thomas wins, Irwin will clinch regardless of this game's outcome. It's funny to think that Irwin will be rooting for a team that put a 30-point hurt on them just last week. Of course, the Hellions could take care of business themselves by finishing off an already battered Piana team. Raze running back Charlie Garner has the week off, and Terrell Davis and Ty Wheatley both look doubtful, which could leave an empty backfield. The Hellions need their Tampa Bay defense to regroup after a couple of mortal showings and put the clamps on the Raze. Outside of Super Bowl 1, this could be the most meaningful game in this heated Western division rivalry.

victims of the bye week:
Irwin - none
Piana - RB Garner

The Players
at
Abstract Machines
(2 - 10)
(6 - 6)
series history: Machines lead 4-3
last meeting: Week 2
MACHINES 56, at Players 16

The Players are coming off seven straight losses and have already assured themselves a 10-loss season and a birth in the Draft Bowl. The brightest spot in the franchise has been Jeff Garcia, who will actually be sitting out Week 13 on a bye. Now they play the Abstract Machines, a team they haven't come close to beating in the past three contests. Speaking of, the Machines need another big performance - not necessarily just a win - to squeeze into the playoffs. They escaped against Sims last week after flirting with defeat, and simply can't afford such an effort against The Players.

victims of the bye week:
Machines - none
Players - QB Garcia

Game of the Week
Jody's C.W.O.T.
at
The Pimps
(8 - 4)
(6 - 6)
series history: Pimps lead 4-3
last meeting: Week 4
PIMPS 34, at Jody 12

The East has already been decided, but The Pimps have everything to be fighting for. Losers of six straight - having won the first six out of the gate - The Pimps are desparate for a big win needed to guarantee a playoff spot. "We're not worried," owner Russ Montgomery declared in his weekly newsconference. And why should he be? The Pimps have pummelled the C.W.O.T. four straight times. The Pimps had their best game in a month last week in a loss to the Brewmeisters. Certainly, as was evident in the locker room all week, morale is up.

Jody, having already wrapped up the division, is fighting mostly for the No. 1 postseason seed. The C.W.O.T. own the league's current longest winning streak at four, and will be looking to carry that momentum through the Pimps and into Championship Week. Of course, any member of the C.W.O.T. will tell you that there's more at stake here than just the seeding. "No one likes to lose four straight times to any team," runningback Stephen Davis said. "We're not about to make it five."

victims of the bye week:
Jody - none
Pimps - REC Rice
