Week 12 Previews

The Pimps
at
Anderson Brewmeisters
(6 - 5)
(5 - 6)
series history: tied 3-3
last meeting: Week 5
Anderson 25, PIMPS 50

Morale is low for this crucial Week 12 duel between the Anderson Brewmeisters and The Pimps. Anderson has dropped two straight divisional games and has nearly been eliminated from the Eastern race, while The Pimps have lost five in a row and now trail the C.W.O.T. by a game. Steve Beurlein and the rest of The Pimps must rally for a win to ensure at least a shot at defending their division title from '99. The Brewmeisters are currently on the outside of the playoff picture looking in, and a third straight defeat could put their Super Bowl threepeat on ice.

This matchup features two of the most explosive receiving corps in the league. Anderson's trio of Eric Moulds, Torry Holt, and Ed McCaffery will be racing against The Pimps' Derrick Alexander, Rod Smith, and the surprising James McKnight. While a huge chunk of the offense could come through the air, the Sunday night game should be worth a look as the Brewskies' Fred Taylor goes head-to-head against The Pimps' Bus, Jerome Bettis. As with most of the games this week, the playoffs seem to have come early.

victims of the bye week:
Pimps - RB Watters, DEF Seattle
Anderson - none

Abstract Machines
at
Sims Stereco
(5 - 6)
(5 - 6)

series history: Machines lead 4-2-1
last meeting: Wild Card Week, 1999
POST. SPIRITUALISTS 48, at Sims 22

Coming off a tough loss to the Irwin Hellions, the Abstract Machines are currently clutching to the sixth and final playoff spot. The Sims Stereco, losing a insurmountable chunk of their team to injury, have lost three straight after starting 5-3. That good start could still land them a playoff spot if they can steal a win over the final two weeks. Yet their recent history against the Machines has been a forgettable one, losing twice in the final four games of '99 by a combined score of 101-53. The Machines, having to go without the injured Marshall Faulk, are still eyeing a return trip to the Super Bowl, and a big win over the Stereco would put them in great position to make the postseason field.

victims of the bye week:
Machines - none
Sims - none

The Players
at
Jody's C.W.O.T.
(2 - 9)
(7 - 4)
series history: Jody leads 4-1
last meeting: Week 7, 1999
JODY 54, at Players 25

The Colossal Waste of Time looks to move one step closer to their first Eastern Division title since 1997 as they host the woeful Players. A C.W.O.T. victory, coupled with a Pimps loss, gives the division to Jody. For The Players, their 2000 fate has been signed, sealed, and delivered. They will host Draft Bowl IV regardless of these final two weeks. Sadly, this will be The Players' third trip in four seasons to the lesser of the league's two bowls. The quarterback battle will be worth watching, as the surging Kerry Collins of the C.W.O.T. looks to outshine the league's best signalcaller in Jeff Garcia of The Players.

victims of the bye week:
Players - RB Alexander
Jody - none

Irwin Hellions
at
Thomas' Bock Boys
(8 - 3)
(6 - 5)
series history: Irwin leads 1-0
last meeting: Week 2
Thomas 4, at IRWIN 63

The Irwin Hellions are a win away from clinching their second consecutive division title, and Thomas' Bock Boys are in prime shape for a postseason birth in this, their inaugural season in the FLF. Coming off the franchise's first two-game winning streak, the B. Boys are hungry to avenge a 59-point whipping at the hands of the Hellions in Week 2. Expect an offensive barrage from both teams - Thomas leads the league in POINTS FOR with 402 while Irwin is a close second at 395. Yet Irwin, backed by an aggressive Buccaneer defense, is allowing a league-low 21.4 points per game. Can they contain Daunte Culpepper - or Trent Green - and company to claim the West, or will Thomas put the party on hold? Looks to be a barnburner in downtown Bockville!

victims of the bye week:
Thomas - none
Irwin - none

Game of the Week
B.Y.O.B.
at
Piana Raze
(5 - 6)
(6 - 5)
series history: first meeting

Two of the hottest clubs in the league tangle in a Week 12 interdivisional contest with playoff aspirations on the line. Brandon's Yellow-bellied Overweight Banshees have won four straight while the Piana Raze have posted Ws in five of their last six. Prior to Week 8, Piana dealt Jamal Anderson and next year's first round draft pick to Brandon for the services of Charlie Garner. The trade seemed to have sparked both clubs for its late-season run. Jamal and Lamar Smith vs. Charlie and Terrell Davis is sure to be a no-holds-barred battle of ground supremecy..

Yet now, a head-to-head contest could spell playoff doom for the loser. The Banshees and Raze have two of the lowest POINTS FOR totals in the league, meaning any tiebreaks coming down to that category will surely go against them. Therefore, only a win could realistically keep their playoff hopes alive. Both teams are playing exceptionally well on both sides of the ball. Piana has played the Eastern teams particularly tough this season, posting an impressive 3-1 mark; the Banshees are 1-2 against the West.

Brandon - none
