Week 10 Previews

Anderson Brewmeisters
at
B.Y.O.B.
(5 - 4)
(3 - 6)
series history: Anderson leads 1-0
last meeting: Week 1
B.Y.O.B. 27, ANDERSON 32

A big week for divisional games kicks off with the revived Brewmeisters visiting the strengthening Banshees. Anderson has won three straight to climb to within a game of The Pimps while Brandon has posted back-to-back wins for the first time in franchise history. Anderson narrowly took the season opener over B.Y.O.B., and will be looking to post another win in this, the first of four straight divisional games to close their season. While still holding out hope for a playoff spot, Brandon could have more of a role in playing spoiler for division contenders, particularly having defeated The Pimps last week. This game will feature two impressive quarterbacks in Peyton Manning and Rich Gannon, but the more impressive matchup will be on the defensive side of the ball. Brandon boasts a solid Redskin squad which could stand toe-to-toe with either of Anderson's MightyTitan or Raven units. Can Brandon rain on yet another parade, or will Anderson use the Banshees as another stepping stone en route to the division lead? This'll be a good one.

victims of the bye week:
Anderson - RB Taylor
B.Y.O.B. - QB Brunell

Jody's C.W.O.T.
at
Sims Stereco
(5 - 4)
(5 - 4)

series history: Jody leads 5-2
last meeting: Week 3
Sims 8, at JODY 27

Speaking of good ones, the Stereco and C.W.O.T. tangle in a meeting of 5-4 divisional rivals. Jody just snapped a two-game slump with a big win over the Hellions, whereas Sims is licking its wounds after a tough and emotional one-point loss to the Raze. Both clubs sit a single game back of The Pimps, and win here could elevate one team into a tie with the defending champs should their current slide continue. The Stereco hold an impressive 4-2 divisional record, but one of those losses came on the road against Jody. In order to settle the score, they'll have to continue their phenomenal play in the absence of Kurt Warner (or any quarterback, for that matter). The C.W.O.T. have several banged up players as well, but should be able to at least field a complete team. With each club sporting strong defenses, offensive points will be at a premium. At least this week, Sims will be on the plus-side of the home field advantage.

victims of the bye week:
Jody - none
Sims - none

Piana Raze
at
Abstract Machines
(5 - 4)
(4 - 5)
series history: Piana leads 5-2
last meeting: Week 4
MACHINES 15, at Piana 10

The Piana Raze hold the longest active winning streak in the league at four games; last week, the Abstract Machines managed to snap a four-game streak of their own, but it was of the losing variety. Now, at 4-5, Shaun King, Marshall Faulk, and the rest of the Machines are looking to make up some ground in the postseason race. The Raze find themselves a mere game back in the West despite a poor 2-3 record in the division. The road may not get any easier for Piana, as three of its final four games are road visits to divisional opponents. Although these two clubs combined for a mere 25 points in their first meeting, this contest is more likely to be an offensive sprint than a defensive tug-of-war.

victims of the bye week:
Piana - DEF Jacksonville
Machines - none

The Pimps
at
Irwin Hellions
(6 - 3)
(6 - 3)
series history: Irwin leads 4-1
last meeting: Week 10, 1999
IRWIN 25, at Pimps 12

Any time you have a late season meeting between division leaders, it's a big game. What makes The Pimps v. Irwin more impressive is that it's also a meeting of the defending division champions from 1999. Obviously, both clubs have formed a enduring foundation of talent over the past couple of seasons. Yet for all its grandeur, this matchup has lost some of its luster due to recent losses for both teams. Irwin had a four-game win streak snapped by Jody last week, and The Pimps have gone into a three-game tailspin after starting 6-0. As a result, both division leaders have seen their respective leads cut down to one game. Now, instead of playing for merely postseason seeding rights, they're fighting to stay atop their division.

The Hellions have owned The Pimps of late. Last season, Irwin was responsible for two of The Pimps three regular season defeats with a combined score of 53-12. Both division champs fell short of the Big Game, however, leading to this very belated rematch. With so much at stake, expect an all out war.

victims of the bye week:
Pimps - none
Irwin - REC Smith

Game of the Week
The Players
at
Thomas' Bock Boys
(2 - 7)
(4 - 5)
series history: Players lead 1-0
last meeting: Week 4
Thomas 14, PLAYERS 30

One could argue that a meeting of two teams with a combined record of 6-12 hardly merits special attention, but this is certainly an exception. Under the new rules of the league which require a team to acquire six wins to be playoff eligible, The Players find themselves on the verge of being the first club mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. What's more, the team with the first shot at eliminating them is the expansion Bock Boys - meaning father could give son the boot. Despite dropping four straight, The Players believe they can take Thomas down, having already done so earlier this season. The Bock Boys are struggling themselves, dropping two straight divsional games to fall two back of Irwin and out of the league's top six. Now to have a shot at the playoffs in their first year, the B. Boys must win at least two of their final four. Conversely, for The Players, the playoffs start here. I ask, what more could you want from a Game of the Week?

victims of the bye week:
Players - none
Thomas - REC McCardell
