The Pimps fall to a divisonal oppoenent for the first time in over two
years as un undermanned Stereco squad outrun the defending champs. Sims
could only field two receivers thanks to the bye week, and then the Stereco
quickly lost their team MVP Kurt Warner to injury. Instead of lying down
for The Pimps, the rest of the team rallied around the mounting adversity
to score the upset. Ricky Williams had a career 19-point performance on
the ground, and the underachieving Albert Connell showed him up with an
astonishing 20 in the air. Yet despite these individual numbers, Sims
was outscored offensively by The Pimps 59-57. Steve Beurlein led the charge
with 15 points while four others had 8 or better. The game came down to
defense, and The Pimps' Seattle squad was overmatched and brutalized 19-3
by Sims' inspired Chiefs team.
Even after suffering consecutive losses, The Pimps cling to a one-game
lead in the East over the surging Stereco, now 5-3. For the season, they
split the series 1-1 with the road team taking the win in each game. Yet
as big of a moment as this is, one can't help but think that this might
be a Pyrrhic victory for the Stereco, as they'll now have to go without
a quarterback in the coming weeks.

The streaking Piana Raze avenged their Week 1 embarassment
to Thomas' Bock Boys by downing the expansion franchise at En Fuego Field.
The newest member of the Raze, runningback Charlie Garner, contributed
a welcomed 10 points in the win. His partner in the backfield Ty Wheatley,
quarterback Brian Griese, and all-star wideout Issac Bruce also topped
double-digits. Bock Boy Daunte Culpepper led all scorers with 13 points.
The Raze have now won three straight, and - like Anderson - have already
surpassed last season's win total. Now at 4-4, Piana has become a legitimate
playoff contender. Thomas, continuing his bizarre pattern of win one-lose
one, falls to 4-4.

In another act of vengance, the Irwin Hellions put a hurt on the already
gimpy Abstract Machines in retalliation for last season's playoff upset.
Chris Carter finally showed up for Irwin, scoring 11 points in the win.
The Edge had just another day at the office with 10 of his own, and Olindo
Mare added the insult with 13 Monday night points. Shaun King continued
his struggles for the Machines and actually cost his team a point. Yet
the potent Machine offense had more than enough to overcome that - just
not enough to overcome the Hellions Tampa Bay defense, which beat out
an abstract Rams squad 17 to (minus)1. The win is the fourth straight
for the Hellions, who, at 6-2, find themselves in comfortable control
of the West. The Machines, having dropped their last four, fall to fourth
place with a 3-5 mark, three games back of the Hellions.

It's been a while since the league's seen a Monday night
comeback, but the expansion Yellow-bellied Overweight Banshees posted
a grand one in upsetting The Players for their second win of the season.
The Players built a sturdy 17-point lead by the end of Sunday thanks to
strong performances by Jeff Garcia (11 points) and Tim Biakabatuka (12
points). Yet Brandon countered with Lamar Smith and "flashlight"
Wayne Chrebet, who combined for 25 Monday-night points to steal the game
away. The win snaps a dismal five game losing streak for Brandon, while
the loss drops the Players to 2-6. Both clubs now teeter on the edge of
elimination, as both must win four of their final five to qualify for
the playoffs.
