As with last season, it seems the East is once again the stronger
division from top to bottom, meaning every division game is increasingly
important in the race for the title. This matchup pits the last
two teams to claim the Eastern Division crown - Anderson in '98
and The Pimps just last year. Through four weeks of 2000, The Pimps
look primed to repeat while the Brewmeisters are stuill trying to
collect themselves. Oddly enough, the pressure here might fall on
The Pimps, who were shocked by the surging Brewmeisters on their
home turf in last season's Eastern Championship Game. The Pimps
are now out to right that wrong and keep Anderson that much farther
away from the division title.
The premiere matchup of the game will be between the shotcallers
as Brewmeister Peyton Manning looks to outduel Pimpdaddy Steve Beurlein
or Pimp-in-training Cade McNown. While Anderson holds the more explosive
offense, The Pimps have proven to be a more consistent team, a trait
that could land them with their record fifth straight win to start
the season.

Three short weeks ago, a cocky C.W.O.T. squad
strolled into Brandon's backyard and was narrowly defeated by the
young expansion team. Jody wasn't happy then, and they won't be
now, coming off a rather definitive loss to The Pimps. Brandon has
struggled since the upset, but has to have some confindence having
downed the C.W.O.T. once already. Both teams have a 1-2 divisional
record, and will need this win to keep alive any hopes of a title.
Yet both teams' receiving corps are being hit hard with the bye
week, and Brandon will have to go without their Week 2 hero Rich
Gannon. Speaking of quarterbacks, it was reported the C.W.O.T. were
having open tryouts earlier in the week...

series history: first meeting
|

On paper, this should be a good one. The Abstract Machines have
won three straight and are undefeated within the division. Thomas
has been a big surprise, already scoring huge wins over Piana
and Anderson. Yet the Bock Boys' success has had limitations -
namely, they've only been able to win at home. Thomas is a dismal
0-2 on the road, having been routed by a combined score of 93-18.
Yet the Bock Boys can make a run at the Machines if the defense
plays huge and Daunte Culpepper lights it up. It wouldn't hurt
to try and take out Marshall Faulk or Marvin Harrison either.
The Machines have surged to the top of the West, and aren't about
to cough up their lead to an expanison team.

Here's two teams that suffered heavily in '99 and entered 2000
with expectations. Well, there went those.
Piana and The Players find themselves in the familiar Western division
basement, looking up even at the expansion Bock Boys. Both teams
are nursing injuries and suffering from underachievement. Yet one
can't fault The Players too much for starting 0-3 against the brutal
lineup of Irwin, Machines, and The Pimps. A win over the Raze would
actually give them some momentum heading into midseason. As for
Piana, the team has been playing better each week, but it still
seems like half the team may never start due to injuries. It's a
huge game for both clubs as the loser would have to go 5-3 the rest
of the way to qualify for the playoffs.

You want rivalry? You want a war? Look no further
than Sims-Irwin. Despite being in separate divisions, both clubs
circled this date when the schedules came out. Now that they're
both 2-2 and trailing in their division races, the stakes are
that much higher. The Stereco are looking to climb above .500
for the first time this season while Irwin is looking to put the
brakes on their current two-game skid.
Both teams are very strong on both sides of the ball. Kurt Warner
vs. Brett Favre should be a classic, and the Kansas City-Tampa
defensive battle should be another stellar contest. The biggest
edge for Irwin comes in the receiving corps, where Chris Carter,
Jimmy Smith, and Marcus Robinson should be able to distance themselves
from Sims' shorthanded duo of Rocket Ismail and Albert Connell;
newcomer Terrell Owens will sit the game out on "disciplinary
measures."
Should be a great game between teams striving to reestablish themselves
among the league's elite. Stereco-Hellions. Are you ready for
some football?
