Week 3 Previews

Sims Stereco
at
Jody's C.W.O.T.
(1 - 1)
(1 - 1)
series history: Jody leads 4-2
last meeting: Week 12, 1999
Jody 32, at SIMS 40

The Sims Stereco continue their tour of the Eastern Division with yet another key matchup, this time against the humbled Colossal Waste of Time. Last week, the Stereco evened their record with a big win over the Brewmeisters while Jody lost a squeaker on the road to the expansion Banshees. With the new schedule format, divisional games are crucial, and neither club wants to be stuck for two early divisional losses.

The bye week strikes the C.W.O.T. heavily this week, sidelining three players, including workhorse Eddie George. The struggling running back will get a breather while allowing backup Mike Alstott to carry the rock. Perhaps the most intruging absence for the Steerco will be Joey Galloway, who was lost for the year after Week 1 with a torn ACL. Galloway, a former member of the C.W.O.T., would have loved to take the field against the team that had lost faith in him. His replacement, the unproven Peerless Price, will likely make his league debut against the C.W.O.T.

victims of the bye week:
Sims - REC Dyson
Jody - RB George, REC Pickens, QB Plummer

The Pimps
at
The Players
(2 - 0)
(0 - 2)

series history: Players lead 5-1
last meeting: Week 5, 1999
PLAYERS 12, at Pimps 9

At first glance, this is an obvious mismatch. The Pimps are playing arguable the franchise's best ball ever, while The Players are possibly playing their worst. The Pimps have scored at least 40 points in each off their first two games while The Players have yet to really threaten 20. Moreover, The Players are really hurting at QB, with McNair out on a bye and 'Cuncussion Troy' questionable to play.

Yet despite all of this, The Players have several things actually working in their favor. First, a good chunk of The Pimps' offense was lost for the year when playmaker Michael Westbrook torn his ACL in last week's game against the Raze. Second, and most importantly, The Players have owned The Pimps. Besides posting a career 5-1 record against them, The Players were one of only two teams to hand The Pimps a loss last year. Could we see another surprise this season?

victims of the bye week:
Players - QB McNair

Anderson Brewmeisters
at
Thomas' Bock Boys
(1 - 1)
(1 - 1)
series history: first meeting

What a difference two weeks make. Earlier in the preseason, one of the Brewmeister coaches was recorded as saying that they had no intention of replacing their lone quarteback and kicker for their Week 3 game against the expansion Bock Boys. Now, after a demoralizing defeat at the Stereco, Anderson might have changed its tune. Thomas has proved - last week not withstanding - to have some offensive power, and the Brewmeisters may not be willing to challenge that shorthanded.

This is a big game for both squads, with each looking to prove that they're better than their Week 2 performances.

victims of the bye week:
Anderson - QB Manning, K Vanderjagt, DEF Tennessee
Thomas - REC Boston

Irwin Hellions
at
Piana Raze
(2 - 0)
(0 - 2)
series history: Piana leads 4-3
last meeting: Week 12, 1999
IRWIN 20, at Piana 0

The Hellions are riding high after the most dominating start to a season in franchise history by outscoring their first two opponents by 96 points. Granted, one could argue their first two opponents - The Players and the Bock Boys - aren't currently playing up to their potential. Irwin can't fault the schedule maker, however, as the Hellions take to the road to visit the troubled Piana Raze. Irwin owned the Raze last season, sweeping the season series and shutting out Piana on its home turf.

The only thing that could possibly slow down the Hellions could be the absence of powerhouse Edgerrin James, who will be sitting out on a bye. The bad news for the Raze, however, is that the devastating Tampa Defense is not.

victims of the bye week:
Irwin - RB James
Piana - RB Jones, K Del Greco

Game of the Week
B.Y.O.B.
at
Abstract Machines
(1 - 1)
(1 - 1)
series history: first meeting

The Game of the Week features two teams coming off big wins in Week 2 to even their records at 1-1. The Abstract Machines are coming off their best season in '99 and have high expectations in 2000. Their manhandling of The Players last week was promising enough, and they will look to do the same against the young B.Y.O.B. The Banshees turned some heads themselves last week with a come from behind stunner over the C.W.O.T. and are looking to catch another FLF power by surprise.

Both teams, however, will be without valuable superstars. The Machines will be without all star wideout Marvin Harrison (bye), and Brandon will have to go without placekicker Jason Elam, who has been sidelined for several weeks with a back injury.

victims of the bye week:
B.Y.O.B. - DEF Indianapolis
Machines - REC Harrison
