Week 1
Pimps, McNown hold off Stereco
The defending Eastern Division champions open the season with a big road win, and expansion storms the FLF. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

THE PIMPS

Sims Stereco
30

The Pimps countered a Monday night rally from Kurt Warner and defeated division rival Sims behind the strong play of Cade McNown. McNown, the 18th selection in this year's draft, proved to be an unstoppable force for the Pimps, scoring 19 of the team's 46 offensive points. Warner, last season's MVP with the Brewmeisters, had a strong game, scoring 12 points, but threw and uncharacteristic three interceptions. Pimps receiver Rod Smith and kicker Jeff Wilkens combined for 13 Monday night points, thwarting the Stereco rally. The win is The Pimps' third straight over the Stereco, and eigth consecutive divisonal contest, dating back to Week 9 of 1998. For the humbled Stereco, the game was even more costly as they lost newly-aquired Joey Galloway for the season.

THOMAS' BOCK BOYS
39

In what could very well be the most shocking game of the year, the expansion Bock Boys crushed the Piana Raze in their league debut. Bock Boys Robert Smith and Priest Holmes each had 100-yard rushing performances while receivers Keenan McCardell and David Boston each topped the century mark through the air. Thomas' Oakland defense played inspired ball, stripping 18 points from the Raze to secure the shutout. Raze QB Jon Kitna should be credited with an assist towards that however, as he set a new record in futility by stripping 9 points away from his own team. The return of Terrell Davis and Jamal Anderson was anticlimatic at best, with the pair combining for a mere 5 points. Excluding the Draft Bowl, Piana has now been outscored 59-0 in their last two regular season games. As for Thomas, the franchise will be needed some new goalposts at Bockyard Stadium after fans stormed the field in deserved celebration.

Brandon's Yellow-bellied Overweight Banshees didn't score the win, but were no less impressive in their debut, dropping a close one to the defending Super Bowl champions. Peyton Manning finally made his own debut for the Brewmeisters, scoring a pedestrian 6 points. But it was Duce Staley who carried Anderson to victory, carrying for over 200 yards and 16 points. Despite an 18-point performance by their Redskin defense, Brandon found itself deep in a hole come Monday, but receiver Az-Zahir Hakim and kicker Jason Elam lit up the scoreboard for 21 points. In the end, however, it just wasn't enough to catch the offensive firepower of the Brewmeisters.

JODY'S C.W.O.T.

Abstract Machines
14

Having largely been forgotten last season, Jody's Miami defense turned in a dominate 33 point performance against the Abstract Machines en route to an opening day victory for the C.W.O.T. Machine Marshall Faulk put on a show for the home crowd with 15 points, narrowly outdueling Stephen Davis of the C.W.O.T., who turned in 12 on the night. Yet despite the overall offensive advantage, the Machines were buried by Jody's Dolphin defense, who had made it a hobby in '98 to single-handedly win games for the Colossal Waste of Time.

The Players

IRWIN HELLIONS
50

Turning in the most impressive all-around performance of the week, the Irwin Hellions picked up right where they left off in 1999 with their seventh consecutive regular season victory. Edgerrin James and Curtis Martin combined for an obscene 26 points in the rout. The Hellions' Buccaneers defense also brought the pain in the form of 16 points against the Players' offensive count. The blowout improves Irwin's record to 6-1 lifetime against their division rival and secure's their place amongst the league's elite.
