Week 12 Previews

Naughty Figs at The Pimps
(4 - 6 - 1)   (3 - 8)
series history: Figs lead 14-5
last meeting: Week 6
Pimps 8, at FIGS 33

The regular season's penultimate week kicks off with the Naughty Figs visiting The Pimps in what could be a preview of this year's Draft Bowl. Last year's remarkable 12-1 Fig campaign has long since been forgotten, and their Eastern title defense is officially over following four losses in a five-week stretch. They're not yet mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but they'd need to win out and get lots of help. The Pimps were the first club to be eliminated from playoff contention following last week's loss to the Abstract Machines. This marks the fifth consecutive year The Pimps will be absent from the bracket, and if they don't win out and get some help, this will be the third straight year they've played in the Draft Bowl. The Figs won the first meeting in a blowout, 33-8, but the Naughties have been playing their games close of late; each of their past three contests have been decided by 3 points or less.

Anderson Brewmeisters at Piana Raze
(4 - 6 - 1)   (5 - 5 - 1)
series history: Piana leads 9-5-2
last meeting: Week 12, 2008
PIANA 73, at Anderson 26

The second-to-last interdivisional matchup of 2009 pits the Anderson Brewmeisters against the Piana Raze in a battle of desperate teams. The 4-6-1 Brewmeisters come into this one having won two straight to double their win count on the season and remain in the playoff discussion. The 5-5-1 Raze have lost two of three and now sit alone in last place in the Western Division. As bad as that sounds, they're currently positioned to make the playoffs, but they'll need to win at least one more game to qualify. Losing here to Anderson would be particularly harmful, however, as the resurgent Brew Krew would catapult past Piana in the postseason seeding. Making this one all the more interesting is that the Brew's Peyton Manning and the Raze's Matt Schaub will be sharing the same field on Sunday.

Irwin Hellions at Abstract Machines
(7 - 4)   (6 - 5)
series history: Irwin leads 15-14
last meeting: Week 6
Machines 54, at IRWIN 59

Streaks collide out West where the division-leading Irwin Hellions meet up with the surging Abstract Machines. Four straight losses by the Hellions have allowed the other four Western teams to catch up to the point where only a game-and-a-half separate first and fifth in the division standings. That logjam insures that the West cannot be won this week, but a Hellion victory would at least guarantee that Irwin remain's in the driver seat. The Machines come into this one having won five straight to break above .500 for the first time all season. Their last loss came in Week 6 against these Hellions, and if they can avenge that defeat they'll pull even with Irwin (and possibly into a first place tie, pending Thomas' result). That Week 6 affair was an amazing one, with both clubs posting raw scores in the 70s. Will this be a comparable encore?

Thomas' Bock Boys at P.W.O.P.
(6 - 4 - 1)   (6 - 5)
series history: Thomas leads 11-8-1
last meeting: Week 1
P.W.O.P. 36, at Thomas 17

Thomas' Bock Boys head into Oil Town to meet up with Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ in a battle between second and third place Western teams. Despite P.W.O.P.'s strong 4-1 start to the season, Pirkle Momentum now seems to have shifted from son to father, where the Boys have used a three-game winning streak to jump the Profiteer$ and pull within a half-game of the Hellions. Last year, these two teams closed out the regular season on this very field, with the Bock Boys claiming a stunning 30-29 victory to capture their second consecutive Western Division title. Will Oil Town be as kind to the defending champs this time around, or can Pirk pull itself out of yet another second half nosedive? With a combined five players going on Thursday, it's fair to say that Thanksgiving should be little more interesting in the Pirkle house this year.

Game of the Week
Sims Stereco at Jody's C.W.O.T.
(5 - 6)   (7 - 4)
series history: Jody leads 15-11
last meeting: Week 6
Jody 27, at SIMS 53

The division-leading Jody's Colossal Waste of Time host the second-place Sims Stereco in the Week 12 Game of the Week. At 7-4 and with a two-game lead with two to play, the C.W.O.T. are on the verge of their record-setting sixth divisional crown. A loss here to the high-powered Stereco doesn't necessarily cost them the title, but it will make for a far more interesting Week 13. The Stereco crushed Jody, 53-26, in Week 6, and a second win over Jody would give them six on the season and make them eligible for the playoffs. (They're currently on the outside looking in, however, so six wins would not guarantee them a spot in the tournament.) For Jody, the scenarios are much simpler. Win this week and win the East and earn a first-round bye. Easier said than done, of course. The schizophrenic Stereco – who were swept this season by both the Figs and The Pimps – have also posted the week's high score a league-leading three times.
