| In a game long
on offense and short on defense, the Sims Stereco
managed an impressive come-from-behind victory
over the slumping Irwin Hellions by a score of
52 – 50 on the road. Athough Irwin’s
kicker Nate Kaeding led all players with 14 points,
the game seemed to swing on the play of Stereco
quarterback Drew Brees, who played his best game
in the last five weeks, scoring 13 points to
lead the team. Sims also got double digits from
kicker Mason Crosby (12) and receiver Wes Welker
(10), while Donovan McNabb was a distant second
to Kaeding on the Hellions with 9. Irwin did
get four 7’s (from Ray Rice, DeAngelo Williams,
Andre Johnson, and Derrick Mason) but he wasn’t
playing cards, and the set of 7’s did not
prove lucky. Stereco tight end Greg Olsen seemed
confused (along with just about everyone else)
to be on the field while Mike Sims-Walker rode
the bench, but the Hellions third receiver – Chad
Ochocinco – was unable to take advantage
of the mismatch, scoring just 3 points to Olsen’s
2. Defensively, both teams were disappointing,
with Sims’ Giants battling Irwin’s
Eagles to a 6-6 tie in takeaway points.
The Hellions, finding no brake to halt the skid,
have now dropped their last four games to go
to 7-4, and have seen their seeming stranglehold
on the Western division shrink to a mere ½ game.
The Stereco, in halting a two game mini losing
streak, now stand at 5-6 and can become playoff
eligible by winning one of their remaining two
games.

| The Anderson
Brewmeisters withstood a late rally by the Naughty
Figs and held on to win their 4th game of the
season, 22-19 at St. Arnold Stadium. This was
a game played well by neither team, with no offensive
scorer managing double digits, and high game
honors going to Figs receiver Anquan Boldin,
with 8 points. Following Boldin for the Naughties
was a trio of 6 pointers – running back
Frank Gore, kicker Stephen Gostkowski, and finally,
quarterback Jay Cutler. The Brewmeisters were “led” by
LaDanian Tomlinson and Steve Smith/CAR, who posted
7 points each. Normally potent quarterback Peyton
Manning managed but 5, and Smith had more points
than the other three Brewsky receivers combined,
although rookie Pierre Gar(soft C)on managed
a credible 5 points. The Figs’ Packers
D managed to better the Brewmeisters’ Cardinals
squad 10 – 9 in takeaway points. With fans
streaming to the exits early, the only thing
to like about this stinker was – if you
are a Brewmeisters fan – the home team
staved off postseason elimination for at least
one more week.
Though the Brewmeisters won this game, there
is still a tie in their relationship with the
Naughty Figs, as both teams now sport identical
4-6-1 records, good for next to worst in the
Eastern division.

Led by the aging
Ricky Williams, whose three touchdowns contributed
to a Player of the Week 16 points, the Thomas
Bock Boys barely survived a 23 point 4th quarter
comeback attempt by the Piana Raze, winning 46 – 44.
Receivers Sidney Rice and Greg Jennings added
10 and 9 points, respectively, in another game
which was weak on defense. Quarterback Matt Schaub
led the Raze with 12 points, while kicker Rob
Bironas added 9, and RB Maurice Jones-Drew and
receiver DeShawn Jackson added 7 each. The two
defenses – Bock Boys’ Pokes and Piana’s
Colts – each managed a paltry 5 points-against.
The win for the Bock Boys vaults them into 2nd
place in the West for the first time this season,
with a 6-4-1 record – now just ½ game
behind the division leading Irwin Hellions. Piana’s
latest loss drops the Raze to 5-5-1, and into
the cellar in the West.

| Behind the arm
of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the hands and
feet of receiver Calvin Johnson, the Colossal
Waste of Time took a 33 – 28 win over Pirkle’s
Wicked Oil Profiteer$ in Oiltown. With Rodgers
throwing two TD’s in a 14 point performance,
and Johnson racking up 157 yards receiving and
a score for 11 more, The Jodys took the Battle
of the Acronyms for an amazing 13th time in 17
matchups. The Profiteer$ were led by running
back Rasheed Mendenhall and receiver Hines Ward,
both of whom scored 9 points; but, Wicked quarterback
Tony Romo continued his erratic play, with only
4 points this week, and P.W.O.P. receiver Vince
Jackson matched his season low, with 3. Defense
was not a factor, as Jody’s Steelers scored
the same 14 takeaway points as Paul’s Vikings.
(In a side note, Jody won the unofficial Battle
of the Johnsons, as Calvin handily outpolled
both Stereco RB Chris Johnson and Hellions receiver
Andre Johnson.)
The Weak Sisters of the East are starting to
look not so bad, at least at the top, where the
C.W.O.T. have now caught the Hellions at 7-4
and own the tiebreaker, by virtue of a 36 – 22
Week 8 win. Pirk’s Profiteer$, on the other
hand, have now dropped consecutive games for
the first time this season, and have lost their
second place spot in the West to Dad’s
Bock Boys.

| The hottest
team in the league finally escaped the Western
division cellar on the same weekend they became
playoff eligible, as the Abstract Machines won
their fifth straight game, this time a 24-11
thumping of the Draft Bowl Bound Pimps. It was
a standout game for the AM’s New Orleans
defense, as the Saints stripped 22 points from
the Pimps, while Russ’s Dophins D managed
only 9 takeaway points in return. On offense,
running back Ryan Grant stepped up to lead the
machines, his 10 points taking some of the weight
off quarterback Tom Brady, who still posted 9
points, which was good for 2nd best in a game
not filled with offensive fireworks. The Pimps
were led by Kurt Warner, who scored 9 before
being knocked out of the game, and got 8 points
from running back Beanie Wells.
The surging Machines, having started out 1-5,
are now in a tie with the Wicked Oil Profiteer$
for third in the West, and still have an outside
shot at the division title. Who would have thought
it five weeks back? Meanwhile, the Pimps remain
in the Eastern Division cellar, a game and a
half back of the Figs and Brewmeisters.
