The ninth week
of the 2009 FLF season kicks off from The Vortex,
where Jody's Colossal Waste of Time hosts the
last-place Pimps. Records aside, both clubs come
into this with some momentum, having each posed
wins last week. Jody impressively handed Irwin
its first loss on the season, and The Pimps ambushed
the defending Super Bowl champion Bock Boys.
At 2-6, the visitors know they can't afford to
lose much more if they're to make a bid for the
playoffs, and they've already played the C.W.O.T.
tough this season, dropping a one-point decision
to Jody in Week 1. Unfortunately for the silver-hats,
they'll be without Adrian Peterson – the league's
highest scoring RB – for this one. On the plus-side,
however, Jody will be short Steven Jackson, who
torched the Hellions for 11 last week.
victims of the bye week:
Pimps – RB Peterson, REC Cotchery

| The Sims Stereco
passed the Naughty Figs in the Eastern Division
standings last week, and now the second-place
Stereco are looking for a little revenge from
the 56-17 beatdown the Figs tagged them with
a month ago. Sims regained its swagger last week
thanks to a 44-14 stomping of the hapless Brew
Krew, and their 4-4 start is their best in three
years. The Figs looked to have fixed their early
season slump, winning three straight at one point,
but have now lost two in a row to fall back under
.500 for the year. The FIgs have to be feeling
pretty good about this one, given they've defeated
the Stereco in five straight meetings. They'll
just need to have a better offensive showing
that last week, when they had the league's worst
(Sims, coincidentally, had the week's best).

| This year's
installment of the Beer Bowl has certainly lost
some of its edge given the Anderson Brewmeisters'
and Thomas' Bock Boys' combined record of 5-9-2.
The last time these two met, it was for a berth
in Super Bowl XII, and they were the Nos. 2 (Thomas)
and 3 (Anderson) postseason seeds. Eight weeks
into this season, the Bock Boys and Brewmeisters
currently sit at the Nos. 7 and 9 seeds, respectively,
both on the outside of the playoff picture.
Father Time seems to have finally caught up with
the Brew Krew, whose aging roster (Peyton Manning
aside) seems to have lost its big-play potential.
The Bock Boys beat the first-place in the East
and then lost to the last-place team in successive
weeks. Go figure. This is their last interdivisional
match of the season, and a win here would give
them a respectable 3-2 mark.

PIANA 34, at Machines 10 |

| The two hottest
clubs in the league meet up at En Fuego Field
where the 4-3-1 Piana Raze host the 3-5 Abstract
Machines. Both clubs are riding two-game winning
streaks and they are only separated by a single
game in the win column. As with last season,
the Machines will need a strong finish to make
the playoff field. They sat at 3-5 after 8 weeks
last year before winning four of its last five,
and they did all of that without Tom
Brady. Well, Brady's back following his bye,
and he hopes to lead his club to a season split
with the Raze. Matt Schaub has finally earned
the outright job as the Raze's starting QB, and
Maurice Jones-Drew is living up to his potential
in the ground game. Piana won only four games
total last year, so the Raze will be well-motivated
as they try for No. 5 on the year.

| The Game of
The Week comes to us from the Hellhole, where
the Irwin Hellions look to shake off last week's
loss to Jody and continue their dominance of
the Western Division by inviting the second-place
Wicked Oil Profiteer$ over to play. P.W.O.P.
suffered a defeat last week as well, keeping
them two games back. Should they lose this one,
they'll be three back and a tiebreak,
meaning for all intensive purposes their shot
at the division title would be dead in the water.
Donovan McNabb has been The Man for the Hellions
of late, and it will be interesting to see who
lines up against him. Pirk has recently gone
with Philip Rivers at QB, but he'll be up against
his own Giants defense. Could we see a Romo-McNabb
dual play out in real-time on Sunday Night? I'd
expect lots of points, either way.
