| The Eastern
division leading Jody’s C.W.O.T. squared
off against the middle of the pack in the West
Thomas Bock Boys on the No. 7 fairway at Gonzales
Independence Golf Park, Sunday, and for the Jodys,
it was a Colossal Waste of Time, as the Bock
Boys dominated from start to finish in a 49 – 24
double-up of the Pewter and Grey.
Even though
Halloween was still a week away, former C.W.O.T.
signal caller Carson Palmer came back to haunt
his old team, throwing for 5 TD’s
in a 20 point performance which earned him Offensive
Player of the Week honors. Palmer played better
in his bye week assignment for the Bock Boys than
he had at any time in his three previous years
with the C.W.O.T. And in a blast from the past,
Bock Boys running back Ricky Williams scored 14
points on a 3 TD day. Kicker David Akers also made
it into double digits for the Boys, with 10. C.W.O.T.
QB Aaron Rodgers had a fine game, with 15 points,
but only running backs Steven Jackson (7 points)
and Ronnie Brown (5) added any meaningful points
for the time wasters. Three receivers each scored
3, and Jody didn’t bother to pick up a kicker
for Steven Hauschka, who was out on bye. The Bock
Boys won the battle of the defenses, though not
by much, as their Cowboys D stripped 18 points
from the C.W.O.T. and added a DTD, while Jody’s
Steelers took 12 from the Boys, but managed 2 DTD’s.
The
win for the Bock Boys puts them at 3-3-1, still
tied with the Piana Raze for third in the West,
still 3-1/2 games behind the undefeated, untied
Hellions. With all Eastern division teams losing
during this weekend of interdivisional play,
the C.W.O.T. holds onto 1st place in the west,
albeit with a mediocre 4-3 record.

| The Irwin Hellions
doubled-up the Pimps in a game played at Wembly
Stadium, in London. For much of the game, the
Hellions seemed to be just going through the
motions, apparently thinking they could beat
the Eastern division cellar-dwelling Pimps just
by suiting up – and by suiting up merely
7 players at that (with receiver Derrick Mason
on bye). The Pimps, though, came to play. Fresh
off the waiver wire, Pimps receiver Miles Austin
scored a game leading 15 points, RB’s Adrian
Peterson and Beanie Wells added 9 and 7, and
kicker Kris Brown posted 7, as the Pimps took
a lead into the 4th quarter against a Hellions
squad of studs – WR Chad 88 (12), kicker
Nate Kaeding (12), and RB DeAngelo Williams (10) – and
duds – WR Andre Johnson (3), RB D. Ward
(2), and the pine-riding Derrick Mason. But the
Pimps’ Bears D imploded, giving away 4
points to the Hellions, and the Hellions’ Philly
D woke up and stripped 24 away from the Pimps,
adding a DTD for good measure. Hellions QB Donovan
McNabb’s 6 points were hardly needed, and
only served to cement the final margin of victory – the
7th in as many games for the Hellions.
The Hellions,
undefeated and untied, extended their team record
best start, but failed to add any distance between
themselves and the rest of the pack in the West,
remaining 2 games ahead of the Wicked Oil Profiteer$.
The Pimps, now on their second three-game losing
streak of the season, are on life support – the
addition of Miles Austin having only caused their
eyelids to blink momentarily. They could still
qualify for the playoffs, but it will take a
remarkable turnaround. From their 1-6 start,
they must now go 5-1.

Abstract
Machines |

After having
been Superman the week before, Tom Brady was
merely very good in Week 7. This week, though,
he received very good support on offense and
defense. As a result, the Abstract Machines took
their second win of the season, a 36 – 29
thumping of the Anderson Brewmeisters.
This game
pitted two of the top quarterbacks in the league
against each other, and both played well. The
Brewmeisters’ Peyton Manning played
his best game of the season, winning the position
battle over Brady, 14 points to 11. However, this
game proved to be more about the rushing game,
and the Machines won because Mike f’s duo
of Ryan Grant and Thomas Jones posted 19 combined
points (Grant – 10, Jones – 9) against
a paltry 5 put up by the backfield of the Brewskies’ LaDanian
Tomlinson (4) and Brian Westbrook (1).
The Brewmeisters
fell behind early, but began closing the gap
when Manning came in to toss 3 TD’s,
one going to Devin Hester (6 points) and one
a spectacular carom to newly picked up Hakeem
Nicks (7), on a play which brought the Brew to
within 4 points at the end of the 3rd quarter.
But Brewskie workhorse Brian Westbrook was literally
knocked out of the game in the 4th quarter, after
posting only a single point, and the Machines
pulled away when receiver Santana Moss tallied
4.
For the second weekend in a row, the Brewmeisters’ Pats
D won the defensive war (by 2 points), with 18
takeaway points and a DTD, vs. 13 takeaway points
with 2 DTD’s by the Machines’ Saints
D. Small consolation, however, as the Brewmeisters
fall to 2-4-1 on the year, and are watching their
chances for the playoffs continue to dwindle.
The Machines, even with the win, are still looking
at a 2-5 record; and, both teams must finish
the season with 4 wins in the final 6 games to
become playoff eligible.

| Sims
Stereco |
vs |
Piana
Raze |
| 28 |
|
35 |
| |
| The Piana Raze
desperately needed a win to keep their playoff
hopes on track. The Sims Stereco were trying
to catch the C.W.O.T. for first place in the
East. In the most closely contested game of the
week, the Stereco couldn’t sustain the
momentum into the 4th quarter, and fell to the
Raze for the twelfth time in fifteen meetings,
35 - 28.
The bye week took its toll on running
backs in this game. Piana was without Jones-Drew,
and Sims was missing his Johnson (Chris, of the
Tennessee Titans). Brian used his only available
replacement – Pierre
Thomas – and Sims went with a strange 4 receiver/2
tight end formation, with Chris Cooley as his fill-in
for Johnson. Neither replacement made an impact
on the game, with Thomas scoring just 3 points,
and Cooley only 1 before leaving the game with
a broken ankle.
The Raze completed their Sunday
slate down by one, with only WR DeShawn Jackson
remaining for the fourth quarter. Sims still
had Larry Fitzgerald in the Sunday night game,
along with Cooley on Monday, and it didn’t
look good for the Raze. In fact, had Stereco
QB Drew Brees not had – for
him – an off game, scoring only 7 points,
the Raze would have been in an even deeper hole.
Brian had received 11 points from Matt Schaub,
who seemed eager to end the Raze’s season-long
QB controversy, 9 from recently signed kicker
John Carney, 7 from receiver Reggie Wayne, and
6 from RB Michael Turner. The Colts defense,
picked up for the Ravens bye week (and maybe
beyond), stripped 14 from the Stereco, and added
a DTD for good measure, although they still lost
the defensive battle, as Chris’ Jets D
played one of its best games of the season, stripping
20 from the Raze. Sims had no players in double
digits, but did get 9’s
from both Wes Welker and Owen Daniels, and 6’s
from RB Joe Addai and kicker Mason Crosby. With
#1 receiver Fitzgerald coming in for the Sunday
night game, it looked like a rare Stereco win
over the Raze was in the offing. However, Fitz
posted just 4 points, while Jackson came through
with a game-high 13 points, and Brian pulled
out the win. It should be noted that the coaches
decision to use Cooley as a fourth receiver,
rather than put Brandon Jacobs in the backfield,
cost the Stereco a tie. Add this to the list
of reasons why Jim Zorn won’t be coaching
in Washington next season.
Of course, nothing
changed in the standings, except the West now
has bragging rights over the little-sister Eastern
division. The Raze are a modest 3-3-1 and still
tied with Thomas for 3rd in the West, and the
Stereco are 3-4 and still 1 game down to the
C.W.O.T. in the East.

| In the nominal
game of the week, the number two teams from each
division played an overseas match in the U.S.
Virgin Islands. In an elementary school yard.
There were few witnesses to the 25 – 17
win by the Wicked Oil Profiteer$ over the Naughty
Figs, which capped off a total domination of
the East by the West in season 13’s Neutral
Site Week.
The winning P.W.O.P. relied on multifaceted
offense, with just 1 running back and 4 receivers,
two of which were tight ends (why would anyone – let
alone two teams – start two tight ends?!).
QB Phil Rivers led the team with a game-high 15
points, while RB Steve Slaton added 8 and receiver
Marquez Colston posted 6. The Naughty Figs went
with the conventional two-back attack, but no one
scored more than the 7 posted by team leading receiver
Lee Evans, as 2’s and 3’s were the
most common individual score. The Figs’ Packers
D won the defensive battle, with 17 takeaway points
vs. 11-against for Paul’s Giants; but, without
much offense to support Evans, the Figs saw their
three game winning streak come to an end.
Still
just ½ game behind the division leading,
4-3 C.W.O.T., the Figs are at 3-3-1 and alone in
second place in the East. And the Wicked Oil Profiteer$
did not gain ground on the Hellions in the West,
remaining 2 games out; but, with the league’s
second best record, 5-2.
