Week 4 Previews

Sims Stereco at The Pimps
(2 - 1)   (0 - 3)
series history: Pimps lead 14-12-1
last meeting: Draft Bowl XII, 2008
Sims 17, at PIMPS 35

The Sims Stereco take on The Pimps in the lone Eastern Division battle of Week 4. These two teams last met in Draft Bowl XII, where The Pimps claimed a 35-17 home victory on this very field. That win entitled The Pimps to the first overall pick, which they used on RB Beanie Wells. Sims traded down from No. 2 and received Chris Johnson from Piana and still snagged Percy Harvin at No. 3. The result: Sims enters Week 4 at 2-1, while The Pimps come in at a tough 0-3 (having lost two home games by a point apiece). The Stereco will be without wideout Larry Fitzgerald for this one due to a bye, but The Pimps will be missing Wells and their two best quarterbacks (Warner and Ryan).

victims of the bye week:
Sims – REC Fitzgerald, K Rackers
Pimps – QB Ryan, QB Warner, RB Wells

Irwin Hellions at Anderson Brewmeisters
(3 - 0)   (1 - 1 - 1)
series history: Anderson leads 8-5
last meeting: Wild Card Week, 2008
Irwin 39, at ANDERSON 65

The first of two Wild Card Week rematches comes to us from Saint Arnold Stadium, where 1-1-1 Anderson Brewmeisters host the undefeated Irwin Hellions. Last year, the sixth-seeded Hellions had their season end on this very field with a 65-39 loss to the third-seeded Brewmeisters. The tides have changed through the first quarter of '09, with Irwin having won its first three contests while Anderson claimed its first victory – by a single point – just last week. This contest will be a Manning family affair, with Eli heading up the Hellions and Peyton leading the Brew. Irwin's DeAngelo Williams and Eagles defense, along with Brewmeisters Brian Westbrook and Steve Smith, will all be sitting this one out on bye. Question of the game is whether Anderson has enough depth to keep up with their Hellish visitors.

Irwin – QB McNabb, RB Williams, DEF Philadelphia
Anderson – RB Westbrook, REC Smith, REC Breaston

Jody's C.W.O.T. at Abstract Machines
(3 - 0)   (0 - 3)
series history: Jody leads 9-7
last meeting: Wild Card Week, 2008
Machines 23, at JODY 32

Fate can be cruel sometimes. The Abstract Machines won five of their last six games in 2008 to make the playoffs, where they were sent home by Jody in the first round. The Machines haven't won since, having lost their first three games in '09. Now, with desperation about to set in, Jody's Colossal Waste of Time and their perfect 3-0 record come to town to try and pin yet another loss on the AMs. To be fair, Jody's perfection has been built on the backs of teams with a combined record of 1-7-1, so the true strength of the C.W.O.T. has yet to have been tested. The Machines were tough-luck losers in Week 1, but have seen their production dip considerably in losses to Thomas and Piana over the past two weeks. Will Tom Brady be able to turn his mini-slump around, or will the Machines shake things up by giving Old Man Favre a shot at the Time-Wasters?

victims of the bye week:
Jody –RB McCoy, REC Curtis
Machines – RB Hightower

P.W.O.P. at Piana Raze
(2 - 1)   (1 - 2)
series history: Piana leads 14-11
last meeting: Week 8, 2008
Piana 22, at P.W.O.P. 30

The Piana Raze and Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ meet up at En Fuego Field following a week of firsts for each club. Week 3 gave the Profiteer$ their first loss on the season, a 33-25 defeat at the hands of the Hellions. The Raze, conversely, earned their first win of the young season with a 34-10 Week 3 whipping of the Machines. The Raze will be without Michael Turner and DeSean Jackson due to their bye, but the club managed to post the league's best effort in Week 3 without them even in the lineup. P.W.O.P. posted the best score of Week 2 of course, so there shouldn't be a question of the Profiteer$' firepower. Pirk swept the season series from Piana last year, meaning the Raze accounted for exactly one-third of Pirk's 2008 win total. That alone should be motivation enough for both clubs.

victims of the bye week:
P.W.O.P. – REC Gonzales
Piana – RB Turner, REC Jackson

Game of the Week
Thomas' Bock Boys at Naughty Figs
(2 - 1)   (0 - 2 - 1)
series history: Thomas leads 7-4
last meeting: Week 8, 2008
Figs 37, at THOMAS 48

The top two seeds from last year's playoffs meet under very different circumstances four weeks into the new season. Defending Western Division champion Thomas' Bock Boys have been less than impressive in winning two of their first three, while the defending Eastern Division champion Naughty Figs have already matched their loss total from all of '08 in three short weeks of '09.

Indeed, the Naughty Figs owned the league during last year's regular season, setting a record with their 12-1 campaign. Two short weeks after those champagne bottles were popped, the Figs were pushed out of the playoffs with a shocking 27-15 loss to Jody. Whatever swagger was built up from last season is clearly gone now, with the Figs stumbling out to a 0-2-1 start. The bye week is taking a chunk out of their offense for this one, forcing Roddy White and Anquan Boldin to the bench. Frank Gore is also out with injury, but thankfully Marshawn Lynch returns following a suspension. But can he help the Figs break back into the win column?

Thomas finished 2008 with the league's second best record (8-5, four games back of the Figs), but managed to avoid a playoff upset and its second Super Bowl Championship. That celebration ended abruptly with the start of the new season, when they were embarrassed in Week 1 and escaped with a win in Week 2 despite having the second-lowest score for the week. Things might be actually looking up for the champs, though, following their come-from-behind win over the previously unbeaten Stereco in Week 3.

The Naughty Figs' only 2008 regular season loss came at the hands of the Bock Boys. When the schedule was released, they had this one circled as an opportunity for revenge. At this point, however, the Figs just need a win – period –, if for nothing else to begin to prove 2008 wasn't a fluke.

victims of the bye week:
Thomas – REC Muhammad, K Akers
Figs – RB Stewart, REC Boldin, REC White
