| The Irwin Hellions
won their third straight game to start the season,
this week handing Western Division rivals Pirkle’s
Wicked Oil Profiteer$ their first loss with a
33 – 25 road victory.
Going through the positions, this was really
a very closely contested game. Hellions QB Eli
Manning outdueled P.W.O.P. QB Phil Rivers 9-7,
but at running back it was a wash, with Kevin
Smith and DeAngelo Williams totaling the same
10 points for the Hellions as Reggie Bush and
Steve Slaton did for the oilmen. Hellions receiver
Derrick Mason led the Hellions receivers with
9, but Chris’s three wideouts posted a
mere 1 point more than Paul’s trio. The
Hellions Eagles D stripped 14 from the Profiteer$;
but, Paul’s Giants D played well, too,
taking 12 away from the Hellions. Had P.W.O.P.
won the kicking game, the outcome and the ranking
atop the Western Division might have been different.
Hellions kicker Nate Kaeding knocked in 10 points,
while Paul’s Lawrence Tynes managed only
5.
At three weeks into the season, the Hellions
sit alone in first place in the West, while the
2-1 P.W.O.P. are tied with dad’s Bock Boys
in second.

| Jody’s
C.W.O.T. took their undefeated record to 3-0,
which a convincing 44 – 25 home win over
the Naughty Figs. Led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers,
with 16 points, and kicker Steven Hauschka’s
10, the Jodys got enough support from the 6’s
posted by RB’s Ronnie Brown and Steven
Jackson, and receiver Steve Smith (NYG) that
they didn’t really miss the poor showing
of their Steelers D, which managed only 6 takeaway
points.
The Figs got an impressive 14 points from kicker
Stephen Gostkowski, but not much from anyone
else. Frank Gore was held to 4 yards and a goose
egg, backfield mate Clinton Portis posted only
2, and normally productive receiver Roddy White
managed only a singleton. The Chargers D scored
only 9 takeaway points, so Anquan Boldin’s
7 fourth quarter points only served to pad his
stats.
Even though it’s still early in the season,
Jody seems to be emerging – again – as
the team to beat in the East, taking a 1 game
lead after Sims undefeated streak came to an
early end. The Figs remained winless after their
first three, with only a tie in week 1 keeping
them from joining the Pimps in the Eastern Division
cellar. But the season’s still early, and
things could look significantly different in
another three. We’ll see.

The Sims Stereco
saw its hopes for an undefeated season come to
an end, courtesy of a late rally by the Thomas
Bock Boys, whose Dallas defense came alive in
the fourth quarter to propel them to a 24 – 9
victory in front of the Bockville faithful. Sims,
trying to keep pace with Jody in the East, had
received 17 takeaway points from their surprisingly
strong Jets D in early action. Brandon Jacobs
added 8 points from the backfield; but, quarterback
Drew Brees and RB Chris Johnson, who combined
for 36 points in a week 2 beatdown of the Anderson
Brewmeisters, were 30 points worse this week,
with Brees posting but a single digit (as, likely,
did owner Sims, also). Still, the Stereco had
Thomas sweating in the fourth, with receiver
Larry Fitzgerald keeping the Cowboys D at bay
in the first half of the Monday night’er.
But the ‘Pokes, who gave up almost 200
yards in the first two quarters, managed to wake
up in the last two, getting three turnovers,
three sacks, and a DTD (that’s 17 takeaway
and 3 offensive points). Of course, the defense
didn’t do it all by itself, as kicker David
Akers led the ‘Boys offense with 10 points,
and QB David Garrard and receiver Donald Driver
posted 8 each. Marion Barber’s late scratch
had Thomas biting his nails for awhile, but in
the end, the ‘Pokes came through.
Thomas is now 2-1 at the quarter pole, same
as Sims. And, just like Sims, Thomas trails the
division leader by one game.

through for three touchdowns, and Steve Smith
caught just enough fourth quarter passes to hold
the hometown Pimps at bay, giving the Anderson
Brewmeisters their first win of the young season.
Manning got off to a bit of a shaky start; but,
after throwing a first quarter interception,
came back to sling it up for 379 yards and the
four scores, giving him a game-high 18 points,
and picking up the slack for RB Brian Westbrook,
who was a late scratch. Brewsky kicker Ryan Longwell
was once again the consistency of the team, with
9 points after 10 each in the first two games.
Newly acquired running back Fred Jackson contributed
5 points, as did new for this year receiver Steve
Breaston. All points turned out to be huge in
a game decided by a single digit, but none were
bigger than Brewmeisters’ receiver Steve
Smith’s 2, which came Monday night, and
were just enough to offset Pimps receiver Jason
Witten’s 4. The Brewmeisters’ win
puts them at 1-1-1, as they avoid falling 2-1/2
games behind the division leading C.W.O.T. No
one in the Brewmeister camp is celebrating, however,
as only 3 points have kept this team from starting
out 0-3.
The Pimps, in falling to 0-3, got game from
Running back Julius Jones, who posted 136 total
yards and a score for 10 points, and also from
draft pick Jericho Cotchery (8), Randy Moss (6),
and kicker Kris Brown (6). But RB Adrian Peterson
(MIN) was uncharacteristically held to 5 points,
quarterback Matt Ryan posted only 4, and the
Texans D managed but a single point. In the lowest
scoring game of the weekend’s matchups,
the Pimps managed, by the slimmest of margins,
to snatch another defeat from the jaws of victory.

| The Piana Raze
got off the schneid with a thorough beatdown
of the Abstract Machines on the road. Maurice
Jones-Drew and Matt Schaub led the winless-no-longer
Raze with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Almost
lost in the fireworks put up in Reliant Stadium
was receiver Reggie Wayne’s 9 Sunday night
points. Even though T.O. unbelievably went statless,
the rest of the team more than took up the slack.
The Machines saw QB Tom Brady return to form,
with 9 points, to lead the team, and kicker Jeff
Reed added 7, but the rest of the offense was
largely MIA. Mike F spent three transactions
trying to pump new energy into his team; but
new RB Darren Sproles and receiver Patrick Crayton
had trouble with the A.M. playbook, and only
produced 3 apiece. On the other side of the ball,
Mike’s new Saints D did a great job of
stripping away 17 points from the Raze, but even
here, the Machines were outclassed, as Brian’s
Ravens D posted 21 takeaway points.
The result in the Western Division is that the
Raze climbed out of the cellar, at 1-2, while
the Machines, at 0-3, remained.
