Week 9 Previews

The Pimps at Naughty Figs
(1 - 7)   (7 - 1)
series history: Figs lead 12-5
last meeting: Week 2
FIGS 64, at Pimps 28

The Naughty Figs look to rebound from their first loss on the season when they host The Pimps in a battle of worst-versus-first in the Eastern Division. The Pimps, who had just won their first game of the season two weeks ago, suffered a 33-point rout last week at the hands of the Brewmeisters, while the Figs dropped a 48-37 decision to the league's other beer-themed franchise in Bockville.

Despite that loss, the Naughty Ones retain a two-game lead over Jody and Anderson and already sport an impressive first half sweep over their four division rivals. They'll happily welcome Jay Cutler and Brandon Marshall back from a bye as they start their second round of divisional play. The Pimps, who are the only FLF team to have no divisional wins thus far, are thrilled to have their own big-play threat back as Adrian Peterson is coming off a bye as well. This game could very well be up in the air after Sunday, as The Pimps' Redskins defense and the FIgs' Steelers squad will square off head-to-head on MNF.

victims of the bye week:
Pimps – QB Delhomme
Figs – RB Stewart, REC Henderson

Thomas' Bock Boys at Sims Stereco
(5 - 3)   (2 - 6)
series history: Sims leads 4-3-1
last meeting: Week 11, 2007
Thomas 34, at SIMS 36

The Sims Stereco host Thomas' Bock Boys in an interdivisional contest between two of the league's best trash-talkers. Of course, both franchises have reason to crow after last week, when Thomas knocked the Figs from their undefeated perch and Sims pulled off a Monday Night shocker over the C.W.O.T..

The Bock Boys are hitting their stride. After a flip-floppy start to the season, they've now won three straight, besting Irwin, Anderson, and the Figs (a combined 16 wins between them) in successive weeks. Their next three games are against Sims, Piana, and the Machines (a combined 7 wins), and a strong showing though this stretch will keep their Western Division title defense hope alive. At 2-6, the Stereco no longer figure into the Eastern race, but their slim playoff hopes will remain alive with a win. Although they'll be without superstar Drew Brees (out on bye), history says they've got a good shot here, having gone an impressive 4-0-1 in their last five meetings with the Boys from Bockville.

victims of the bye week:
Thomas – none
Sims – QB Brees, REC Moore, REC Muhammad

Anderson Brewmeisters at Irwin Hellions
(5 - 3)   (4 - 4)
series history: Anderson leads 6-5
last meeting: Week 8, 2007
Irwin 24, at ANDERSON 48

The Anderson Brewmeisters visit the Irwin Hellions in the final of three interdivisional contests on the Week 9 slate. For Anderson, this marks the end of a brutal five-week campaign away from Saint Arnold Stadium. They've gone a respectable 2-2 thus far, including a convincing 54-21 win over The Pimps last week. The Hellions, meanwhile, are reeling a bit, having dropped two of their past three to fall to 4-4. Worse yet, those two losses both came here at Purgatory Field, which used to be a true House of Horrors for all visiting clubs.

The Brewmeisters' title defense has not necessarily gone as planned, with both Peyton Manning and LaDainian Tomlinson taking big steps back in production. At least Brian Westbrook is healthy, and LenDale White has emerged as a goal line force, giving the Brew some much needed sizzle in the offense. They best not be looking ahead to next week's matchup with the Figs; Irwin is thirsty for a playoff berth, making them a dangerous team. At 4-4, the Hellions would currently slide in as the No. 6 seed, but the next month will be a true test of character. On the dance card: Anderson, Pirk, Jody, and Thomas, who are a combined 22-10.

victims of the bye week:
Anderson – RB Tomlinson, REC Bruce, REC Chambers, REC Smith
Irwin – RB Williams, K Kaeding

Abstract Machines at Piana Raze
(3 - 5)   (2 - 6)
series history: Piana leads 13-10
last meeting: Week 6
PIANA 47, at Machines 43

It's a battle of Western Division bottom-feeders as the 2-6 Piana Raze host the 3-5 Abstract Machines. The AMs just snapped a five-game losing streak by besting the Hellions at Purgatory Field, while the Raze are coming off consecutive defeats at the hands of the division-leading Figs and Profiteer$.

The Raze are actually lucky to be 2-6 and not 1-7. Facing these Machines three weeks ago, they went into Monday night already trailing by a point with only the Machines' Giants defense left to go. Yet the unthinkable happened, as the Giants D imploded and gave five points (and a win) back to their opponents. The Giants have responded well to that national-televised humiliation, scoring 25 and 27 points, respectively, in the last two weeks (granted, they were left on the bench in one of those games). Now, with that stinging loss still fresh in their minds, the Machines get their shot at redemption. Another loss to the Raze, however, could seriously wound any hopes of returning to the playoffs for a sixth straight year.

victims of the bye week:
Machines – REC Morgan, K Mahlhaff
Piana – none

Game of the Week
P.W.O.P. at Jody's C.W.O.T.
(6 - 2)   (5 - 3)
series history: Jody leads 11-4
last meeting: Championship Week, 2007
P.W.O.P. 2, at JODY 52

P.W.O.P. vs C.W.O.T. in the G.O.T.W.! OMG! (Sorry, couldn't resist.) The Western Division leading Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ travel to The Vortex to take on Jody's Colossal Waste of Time in a rematch of last season's Eastern Championship Game. Jody crushed Pirk in that game, 52-2, and there's a slight chance they may roll up the Oilmen yet again this week.

Credit the Profiteer$ for getting out of the gate early. Following a Week 1 loss, P.W.O.P. has won six of their last seven to catapult into first place in the West. The double-headed attack of quarterbacks Tony Romo and Philip Rivers has been a large part of Pirk's success, but the Profiteer$ will be without both gunslingers this week (Romo is injured and Rivers is out on bye). Making matters worse, Pirk also loses Reggie Bush (already injured actually), Marques Colston, and Vincent Jackson to the bye as well. Nursing a one-game lead over the surging Bock Boys, P.W.O.P. can ill-afford any loss, but these bye week casualties may be too much to overcome.

As if seeing a depleted team across the field wasn't enough motivation, Jody is still seething from a last-second loss to the Stereco last week. Instead of gaining a game on the Figs, they fell back into a tie with the Brewmeisters. J.T. O'Sullivan cost his team the game by posting a (minus)-1, and that performance cost his job. The reigns have been officially turned over to Aaron Rodgers, who is ready to go following his bye.

One last stat tilting the odds in Jody's favor: the C.W.O.T. are a lifetime 7-0 against Pirk at home. But as they say, that's why we play the games!

victims of the bye week:
P.W.O.P. – QB Rivers, RB Bush, REC Colston, REC Jackson, REC Davis, DEF New Orleans
Jody – QB O'Sullivan, RB Gore, REC Gates
