Week 10 Previews

Anderson Brewmeisters at The Pimps
(4 - 5)   (4 - 4 - 1)
series history: tied 10-10
last meeting: Week 4
PIMPS 32, at Anderson 27

The Anderson Brewmeisters visit The Pimps in the lone Eastern DIvision battle of Week 10. The Brewmeisters are looking to avoid their second season sweep in as many weeks after falling to Jody (yet again) in Week 9. The Pimps are coming off a 1-point victory over the Machines, snapping a four-game non-winning streak and moving back into second place in the East. The Feathered Ones will be short-handed for this one, however, having to go for the sweep over Anderson without three of their biggest weekly scorers (Joey Galloway, Dante Stallworth, and Kris Brown). Both teams are currently in the playoff discussion with four wins, but the loser of this one will have the unenviable task of having to win two of their final three games to make eligibility.

victims of the bye week:
Anderson – K Gostkowski
Pimps – REC Galloway, REC Stallworth, K Brown

Piana Raze at Sims Stereco
(5 - 4)   (2 - 6 - 1)
series history: Piana leads 9-3
last meeting: Championship Week, 2006
Sims 21, at PIANA 31

The Piana Raze hit the road to take on the Sims Stereco in a rematch of last year's Western Championship Game. My how things have changed, however; the defending champion Raze are three games back in the West with four to play, and the Stereco have won only two of nine contests. That total, of course, puts Sims on the playoff eligibility precipice, and the Stereco would have to win out over the final month of the season for a shot at returning to the playoffs. This puts Piana in a position to knock Sims out of the playoffs two years in a row. Of course, that feat might be difficult given that the Raze QB position has produced a total of 2 points in the past five games (.4 ppg).

victims of the bye week:
Piana – QB Schaub, REC Cotchery
Sims – REC Welker, REC Daniels

Jody's C.W.O.T.

at P.W.O.P.
(6 - 3)   (3 - 6)
series history: Jody leads 10-3
last meeting: Week 7, 2006
P.W.O.P. 37, vs Jody 12

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time and its four-game winning streak head into Oil Town for an interdivisional clash with the slumping P.W.O.P. The Profiteer$ have dropped 4 of 5 following a 2-2 start and are in danger of missing the playoffs, while the C.W.O.T. are enjoying a game-and-a-half lead over The Pimps in the East. Both of these clubs have been plagued by injuries this season – particularly in the backfield. Yet Jody is three games better than their acronymic counterparts thanks in large part to solid defensive play. Pirk's defense has been hit or miss all season, but when it does hit, it hits hard (just ask Anderson).

victims of the bye week:
Jody – RB Graham, RB Maroney, DEF Tampa Bay
P.W.O.P. – none

Naughty Figs at Irwin Hellions
(4 - 5)   (3 - 6)
series history: Irwin leads 8-0
last meeting: Week 7, 2006
IRWIN 34, vs Figs 31

The Naughty Figs head into the Hellhole to tackle their interdivisional demons, the Irwin Hellions. The FIgs are a lifetime 0-8 versus the Hellions, but if there's ever a time to snap that streak, this could be it. They're coming off a big win over Sims and are back in the playoff conversation, whereas Irwin has dropped four straight and is in danger of missing the playoffs for a second straight year. The Figs are sporting a deep running attack and a stout Steeler defense, which may be enough to finally topple an extremely banged up Hellion squad.

victims of the bye week:
Figs – DEF Houston
Irwin – REC A. Johnson, REC Davis

Game of the Week
Abstract Machines at Thomas' Bock Boys
(5 - 4)   (8 - 1)
series history: Thomas leads 11-5
last meeting: Week 2
THOMAS 43, at Machines 21

Thomas' Bock Boys host the Abstract Machines with a chance at clinching the Western Division crown in Week 10. All they need is a win over the Machines and a Piana loss, and the Boys will be division champs for the second time in team history, first since 2002. The surging Machines lost crucial ground last week, being tripped up by The Pimps and seeing their four-game winning streak disappear. Thomas used the franchise's first ever victory at Purgatory Field to post their second 4-game winning streak of the season.

Two of the biggest reasons both the Machines and Bock Boys appear to be playoff-bound will not be on the field, however. The Machines' Tom Brady – quite possibly the league MVP – and Thomas' Randy Moss will be watching this one from the sidelines as they serve their bye. The AMs win the replacement battle though, sliding a dangerous Ben Rothelisburger being center. Aside from Moss, the Boys will be without four other players, including Jeff Garcia and Laverneus Coles.

Even with these roster losses, it might be hard to bet against Thomas, which boasts an impressive 6-0 divisional record and is already 4-0 at home. Winning the division – if not this week – certainly seems to be a foregone conclusion.

victims of the bye week:
Machines – QB Brady, RB Jones
Thomas –  QB Garcia, RB Bennett, REC Moss, REC Coles, DEF New England
