| The Western
division-leading Thomas Bock Boys continued their
torrid start to the ’07 season, vanquishing
the Naughty Figs 49 – 30 in Prairie Lea. Unlikely
hero Laveranues Coles led the team this week,
with 13 points out of the #3 receiver position,
more than doubling his average. He was
joined in double digits by Randy Moss (12), with
QB Jeff Garcia adding 9 and RB Marion Barber
adding 8, almost all of which came in the second
half of the game. The Boys’ Patriots
D was almost up to its usual standard, with 10-against
and a touchdown scored. The Figs might
have made a game of it, had not the league-leading
Steelers defense stumbled to a 10-against, matching
its poorest performance of the season, and receiver
Patrick Crayton not given away a point to the
Bock Boys. Kicker David Akers led the team
with 10, while RB Clinton Portis added 9, and
QB Matt Hasselbeck was good for 8 in the losing
cause. The Bock Boys, now at a lofty 6 – 1
since being picked by the “expert” as
the pond scum of the West, did not gain on their
challengers, as almost everyone in the division
kicked dirt on the Little Sisters of the East. In
this particular case, the Figs fell to 3 – 4,
and into a tie with the Brewmeisters for third
in the minor division.

Missing several
starters due to the bye week flu, the Anderson
Brewmeisters looked listless and lifeless in
week 7, and basically watched as Pirkle$ Wicked
Oil Profiteer$ pulled away to a convincing 32 – 11
interdivisional victory at the Mustang Bowl. Although
the two offenses actually played it pretty close,
the Brewskies lost the battle of the defenses,
as Pirk’s Seahawks defense came a gusher,
to the tune of 33 points against and a touchdown
scored. The Brewmeisters’ Chargers
defense put up a credible 12-against, but without
any star performances on offense, it mattered
little. P.W.O.P. got good production from
it’s backfield and kicker, as Tony Romo
put up 7, Reggie Bush scored an 8, Kevin Jones
(perhaps a little pumped to be playing against
a former team) posted a 9, and Shayne Graham
chipped in 8. The Brewskies got good production
from Peyton Manning (9), and Brandon Jacobs (9)
in his first start of the season, filling in
as best as possible for LaDanian Tomlinson. Reliable
Stephen Gostkowski hit for 7, but no one else
scored more than six for the Brew Krew, who saw
their mini winning streak stopped at two. Both
teams are now at 3 – 4; however, the Profiteer$
have a bigger mountain to climb in the Western
division, where they are still 3 games behind
dad’s Bock Boys and tied for Irwin for
last place. The Brewmeisters, in a tie
with the Figs for third place in the East, are
only one game behind the C.W.O.T.

In the most closely
contested game of the weekend, the Eastern division
Sims Stereco fell back on their losing ways,
this time to the Western Division’s Abstract
Machines, 41 – 35 at Shotwell Stadium in
Abilene. With the Stereco entering at 1-4-1,
and the Machines having just rolled up a monster
82 total points against the Hellions the previous
weekend, the game played out a lot closer than
some might have figured. Though Machines
quarterback Tom Brady was his usual spectacular
self, amassing another monstrous 25 points, the
AM’s pretty much reverted to the Brady/Ravens
show, with the supporting players largely disappearing. Other
than Brady, and RB Willie Parker, with 7 points,
no offensive starter scored more than 4 for the
victors. The Ravens defense, looking less
and less like the leading unit from last season,
managed a 10-against score, three less than its
average, but still twice what Sims’ Jaguars
D (5-against) managed. The Stereco did
have some impressive individual performances,
with receiver Wes Welker and kicker Robbie Gould
each posting unlucky 13’s. And, almost
lost in the ruins of another loss, was a second
straight impressive performance by Stereco quarterback
Drew Brees, who scored an 8 on the heels of an
11 point game last week (which, unfortunately,
didn’t count, as he was benched). The
Machines’ third win in a row leaves them
in a two-way tie for second place in the powerful
Western division. The latest Stereco loss
leaves them at 1-5-1, solidly in last place in
the lesser division, needing five wins in the
remaining six games to keep their season from
turning to crap.

| The beatdown
of Eastern division teams continued in Eugene,
Oregon, as the Piana Raze blew like a wildfire
across Autzen Stadium and, in a score that could
only happen in fantasy, scorched the Pimps, 39 – 1. Brian’s
Giants Defense, playing like madmen, trampled
the Pimps, to the tune of 26 points-against and
a defensive touchdown, while the Pimps vaunted
Bears defense managed only a paltry 6-against. Brian
seems to have made a great pickup of the NYG
defense, as they are now the 2nd ranked D in
the league, while the Pimps’s Bears D falls
to #15 following its latest disappointing performance. The
stellar play of the Giants D allowed the Raze
to overcome its latest round of quarterback woes,
as this week’s starter Jason Campbell was
a total washout, scoring no points for the winners
(hey, at least he didn’t give away any). The
Raze was not without offensive stars, however,
as running back Larry Johnson led the team with
10, kicker Adam Vinatieri followed with 9, and
three other starters contributed 7 or 8 points
each. The Pimps were “led” by
receiver Dont’e Stallworth’s 6 and
RB Adrian Peterson’s 5, but the remaining
five starters managed only a total of 16. The
Raze now find themselves in a tie for 2nd place
in the West, at 4-3. The Pimps, who have
now not seen a win for three weeks, fall out
of 1st place in the East, with a 3-3-1 record.

| The Jody’s
C.W.O.T. kept the Western division from sweeping
the Neutral Site Week slate of games, with a
46 – 26 thumping of the Irwin Hellions
in the Meadowlands. Led by kicker Josh
Brown’s 17 points, the C.W.O.T. received
timely, if unspectacular, contributions from
almost everyone in the lineup, as five of the
other six starters posted 5 or 6 points. The
lone non-contributor was wide receiver Anthony
Gonzalez. Jody’s Buccaneers D was
unimpressive, managing to take only 7 points
from the Hellions, but they still won the battle
of the defenses, as Chris’ Eagles D put
up a goose egg, as did his kicker, Nate Kading. In
fact, the Hellions had little to get excited
about, beyond Donovan McNabb’s team leading
9 points, and receiver Andre Davis’ 8,
as four of their starters combined for only 10
points. In winning, the C.W.O.T. take over
first place in the Eastern division with a 4-3
record – the only winning record in the
division. The losing Hellions drop to 3-4,
only one game under .500, but still find themselves
tied for last in the powerful Western Division,
and now three games behind the division leading
Thomas Bock Boys.
