Week 3 Previews

Naughty Figs at Sims Stereco
(1 - 1)   (0 - 2)
series history: Sims leads 10-4
last meeting: Week 12, 2006
SIMS 69, at Figs 34

The Naughty Figs head back out on the road to meet with a Sims Stereco squad that's still winless on the young season. The Figs are coming off 36-30 home loss to The Pimps and are looking to restore some of their Week 1 road magic when they upset the C.W.O.T.. The Stereco have surrendered 49 points to both Anderson and Irwin in the previous two weeks and are desperate for any sign of life on the defensive side of the ball.

The Figs have started three running backs in the first two weeks – LaMont Jordan, Willis McGahee, and Travis Henry – and still have one ready-in-waiting on the sidelines (Clinton Portis). Which two will start against Sims is the question of the day in Figs camp. The Stereco delivered a lineup surprise of their own last week, sending out Brett Favre in place of a struggling Drew Brees, and the Ol' Man recaptured his youth for a week, ripping his former Hellion teammates for 13 points. Will he get the start once again as a playoff team from a year ago looks for Win No. 1?

Piana Raze at Jody's C.W.O.T.
(1 - 1)   (1 - 1)
series history: Jody leads 10-4
last meeting: Week 8, 2006
Jody 41, at PIANA 64

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time returns home from their huge road win over the Anderson Brewmeisters to host the other Super Bowl participant from last season – the defending Champion Piana Raze. The Raze, however, aren't looking much like the 2006 version thus far. Marc Bulger is banged up and unimpressive, and a rushing attack featuring Larry Johnson and Maurice Jones-Drew has yet to produce a touchdown. Jody is also suffering in the ground game, as the dangerous Steven Jackson has only 4 points thus far. Carson Palmer, however, leads all quarterbacks in scoring and is eager to build on his 33 points. Jody has historically dominated the series, but Piana administered a 64-41 thrashing a year ago – something the C.W.O.T. surely haven't forgotten.

Anderson Brewmeisters at Abstract Machines
(1 - 1)   (0 - 2)
series history: Anderson leads 7-5
last meeting: Week 6, 2006
Machines 25, at ANDERSON 58

The Anderson Brewmeisters visit the Abstract Machines in a renewal of one of the best interdivisional rivalries (at least on the field) in recent memory. The 2007 chapter is bound to be interesting given the circumstances. Both clubs are coming off Week 2 losses, and the Machines are actually winless on the year. The Brewskies are fuming having been outgunned – yet again – by Jody in their own backyard. This might be bad news for the Machines, who have struggled to put points on the board. Tom Brady has been solid, but the rest of the team needs to step up if the franchise is to avoid its first ever 0-3 start.

The Pimps at Thomas' Bock Boys
(2 - 0)   (2 - 0)
series history: Pimps lead 4-3
last meeting: Week 1, 2006
Thomas 9, at PIMPS 30

The marquee game that's not GOTW features the two remaining undefeated teams, as Thomas' Bock Boys host The Pimps at Bockyard Stadium. The Bockville faithful are likely to be rabid in their support for their 2-0 Boys, who are making their home opener. A team that won only three games all of last season has won their first two – both in the division. So in come The Pimps, a team that has won just five games in each of the past two seasons. Odds are, one of these teams will leave the stadium 3-0, which is already half-way to playoff eligibility. Additionally, this game will likely feature two of the top three draft picks, as The Pimps' Adrian Peterson (third overall) will look to outshine the Boys' Calvin Johnson (second overall).

Game of the Week
P.W.O.P. at Irwin Hellions
(1 - 1)   (1 - 1)
series history: Irwin leads 12-9
last meeting: Week 10, 2006
Irwin 33, at P.W.O.P. 55

The Game of the Week originates from the Hellhole, where the Irwin Hellions host Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ in a battle of Western Division clubs that righted their ship in Week 2. P.W.O.P. downed Piana last week to break into the win column, while Irwin outran the Stereco for their first win.

Profiteer Tony Romo has been one of the brightest stars in the league over the first two weeks, throwing for 33 points. The rest of the offense, however, has yet to take off. The Hellions are also struggling to find an offensive identity for 2007, and almost did last week. The Johnson twins – Chad and Andre – were outstanding in the win over Sims, combining for 28 points. But Andre sprained his knee and will be out for this one and possibly longer.

The P.W.O.P.-Hellion series has practically been a tale of two halves. Irwin dominated Pirk in the first five seasons, going 10-1 against the Oil Men. Yet the Profiteer$ have surged back, going 8-2 over the past five. Can they keep that momentum going this week at Purgatory Field?
