Championship Week Recaps
Manning, LT Crush Jody

Anderson pummels the C.W.O.T. at Saint Arnold Stadium while Piana uses a Monday Night rally to edge past Sims and into Super Bowl X. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Jody's C.W.O.T. at Anderson Brewmeisters
14   56

LaDainian Tomlinson and the top-seeded Anderson Brewmeisters made sure their record-setting season would extend to the Super Bowl following a 56-14 hammering of Jody's Colossal Waste of Time in the Eastern Championship Game. Three weeks after upsetting the Brewmeisters on this very field, the C.W.O.T. couldn't keep up with the well-rested Eastern Division Champs in the rematch.

The visitors couldn't get anything going through the air, with Carson Palmer and three receivers combining for only 9 points and no touchdowns. Antonio Gates was shut out completely, and Palmer (3 points) suffered his worst game in six weeks. Jody's special teams and defense were also M.I.A., combining for a pedestrian 8 points. Not surprisingly, it was the running game that gave Jody its early – but ultimately unsustainable – lead. Frank Gore and Steven Jackson each scored 12 points for the Pewter & Black, giving them an impressive 47 points during their two-game playoff run.

The 24 points from Gore and Jackson, however, were eclipsed by Anderson's dynamic duo of LaDainian Tomlinson and Brian Westbrook. After an alarmingly slow start – Anderson's three receivers combined for just 10 points and kicker Ryan Longwell failed to score anything – Westbrook rocked the C.W.O.T. for 13. Tomlinson then essentially toyed with the defenders for 16 more Sunday Night while the Charger defense plundered the unsuspecting C.W.O.T. for 21 points-against.

With the game now all but decided, Peyton Manning put on a show for the Saint Arnold Stadium faithful Monday Night, surgically slicing up Jody's secondary for season-best 19 points. Once the bloodletting was finally complete, Anderson had its largest margin-of-victory on the season (42 points) and had convincingly avenged the 50-46 setback suffered three weeks ago. More importantly, the Brewmeisters had punched their ticket to Miami and a spot in Super Bowl X next week.

Sims Stereco at Piana Raze
21   31

The Piana Raze advanced to meet the Anderson Brewmeisters in Super Bowl X with a 31-21, come-from-behind victory over the Sims Stereco.

The visiting Stereco jumped out to an early lead behind 9 points from kicker Robbie Gould and an additional 15 from their Jaguar D. The offense, however, struggled to build on that advantage. Drew Brees – making his first career playoff start – suffered his worst game of the season, contributing only 2 points. (Combine that with Michael Vick's 1 point last week, and Stereco QBs combined for a paltry 3 in the postseason.) Deuce McAllister led the offense with 6 points, but wingman Tatum Bell was shut out. Receivers Terry Glenn (5 points), Larry Fitzgerald (4), and Alge Crumpler (3) got their yards but failed to reach the endzone.

Playing against his former team, Terrell Owens had a solid playoff debut for the Raze. The receiver posted an offense-high of 9 points, and Tiki Barber backed him up with 8 more on the ground. Marc Bulger and Larry Johnson, however, failed to find the endzone, combining for a relatively meek 6 points. And while Roy Williams managed just one catch for a single point, Piana's Giants defense did strip 8 away from Sims to close the gap to seven points heading into Monday Night. Reggie Wayne posted the necessary 7 to tie, and Adam Vinatieri posted his best game in months (10 points) to give the Western Division Champs the win.

While Sims' remarkable campaign comes to a disappointing close, the Stereco will head into the offseason with a franchise-best record of 10-5. The Raze will now head to Miami for a Neutral Site Week rematch with the Anderson Brewmeisters in Super Bowl X.
