The C.W.O.T. stun the Machines at The Vortex, while Sims advances following a Profiteer meltdown. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Abstract Machines at Jody's C.W.O.T.
39   41

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time rallied from 17 points down on Monday night to stun the defending Super Bowl Champion Abstract Machines 41-39 for a Wild Card victory. The Machines rolled out to an early lead behind 20 points from their Ravens defense and 12 from Fast Willie Parker. Ahman Green ran for 8 more, and all three Mechanical receivers posted at least 5 points. But Tom Brady picked a bad time to have his second-worst game of the season, throwing for only 78 yards and losing a fumble while failing to contribute a single point to his offense.

Nonetheless, Jody found itself trailing for most of the game. Kicker Josh Brown and the Panthers defense combined for only 5 points, leaving it squarely on the offense to try and counter the Machines' attack. Carson Palmer had an average game with 6 points, but Frank Gore (10), T.J. Houshmandzadeh (9), and Antonio Gates (11) delivered the goods to get the C.W.O.T. back into it. With home field advantage factored in, Jody still found itself down by 17 heading into Monday night. Muhsin Muhammed did his part with 6 primetime points, but it was ultimately Steven Jackson who saved the day for the home team. Jackson had 139 all-purpose yards and found the endzone twice – including the eventual game winner with just 4:41 left to play – for a team-high 13 points and the win.

The stunning loss ends the Machines' title defense after having already won two straight just to make the playoffs. The win, meanwhile, gives the C.W.O.T. a two-game season sweep over their Super Bowl opponent from a year ago, and propels the Pewter & Black into Championship Week for the second straight season.

P.W.O.P. at Sims Stereco
25   34

The SIms Stereco outlasted Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ in a sloppily-played Wild Card rematch of last season's Draft Bowl. Pirk must have spent all their effort in securing their sixth win last week, as the Oil Men came out flat in this one. Shayne Graham and the Seahawk defense combined for just 5 points a week after producing 30, and all three Profiteer receivers managed just 5 more on top of that. Additionally, Tony Romo struggled in his first postseason start, throwing for 4 points, but that managed to be 3 points better than the Stereco's Mike Vick, who apparently froze under the pressure.

Someone who didn't seem to mind the pressure was first-overall draftee Reggie Bush, who led all P.W.O.P. scorers with 11 points. Rudi Johnson backed up the rookie with 10 more, but the ineptitude of the remaining 6 players doomed the Profiteer$. Sims got a team-high 10 points from its Jaguar defense, and Terry Glenn led the offense with 8 points. Tatum Bell and Larry Fitzgerald had 7 apiece, and the third-seeded Stereco did enough to scrape out their first postseason win since Super Bowl VI.

P.W.O.P.'s season started hot but faded down the stretch, but the Oil Men can certainly build off the franchise's first playoff appearance since 2003. The Stereco – who hadn't sniffed the playoffs since 2002 – continue their improbable 2006 run, advancing to Championship Week for just the second time in franchise history.

Draft Bowl X Recap
Naughty Figs at Thomas' Bock Boys
56   26

The Naughty Figs posted the week's best overall performance in routing the hapless Bock Boys 56-26 in Draft Bowl X. Three Fig starters – Matt Hasselback (14 points), Travis Henry (10), and Josh Scobee (15) – put up enough offense to eclipse Thomas' entire team effort. The Bock Boys had five players score 3 points or less, but Rex Grossman finally turned in a solid effort, ripping the Figs for a team-high 11 points in the loss.

The win is the Figs' second Draft Bowl victory, having already one the lesser bowl in their inaugural season of 2000, and they will have the first overall selection in the 2007 League Draft. The Bock Boys, meanwhile, finish the year in the same manner in which they did 2005 – with six straight losses. Hopefully, both these franchises can pull a similar turnaround as last year's Draft Bowl participants did and find themselves back in the tourney next year.
