| The Piana Raze
did just enough to outlast the visiting Pirk's
Wicked Oil Profiteer$, winning a battle for the
Western Division lead, 30-26. The Raze's Larry
Johnson led all scorers with 14 points, and Reggie
Wayne contributed another 9. The rest of the
team was effectively shut down, combining for
only 14 additional points. Pirk didn't
fare much better, with kicker Shayne Graham leading
his team with only 7 points. All told, seven
players from both sidelines managed to score
2 points or less, and the Naughty Figs (who
were hosting the Machines and fighting for their
playoff lives) managed to outscore the combined
efforts of both teams.
The Piana Raze should indeed be thankful this
week in that they were able to get a win
despite playing their worst statistical game
of the season. The victory puts them a game-and-a-half
up of the Profiteer$, who have suddenly lost
three of their last four. The Raze victory also
punches a playoff ticket for Piana, who joins
Anderson and Sims as the only clubs to have clinched
a berth in the postseason tournament. At 5-6,
P.W.O.P. remains a game shy of being playoff
eligible.

| Another year,
another home victory for the Irwin Hellions over
Thomas' Bock Boys. Irwin's inspired 31-14 rout
of Thomas lifts their all-time record against
the Boys at Purgatory Field to a still-perfect
8-0. Chad Johnson led the way for the Hellions,
scorching Thomas for three TDs and 19 points.
Deion Branch (9 points) and Wali Lundy (7) also
provided offensive punch, but Irwin took a serious
hit with the loss of Donovan McNabb, who was
knocked from the game and will miss the remainder
of the season. The Bock Boys couldn't take advantage
of McNabb's absence, however, and actually had
two players – Jeff Wilkins and Reuben Droughns
– fail to score anything. Thomas' Patriots defense
ripped Irwin for 19 points to make the score
more respectable, but it wasn't near enough to
keep the Boys' playoff hopes alive.
With their eighth loss of the season, Thomas
becomes the first club to fall out of playoff
contention. After an impressive six-season run,
the Boys from Bockville will finally be watching
the postseason tournament from home. Irwin
remains alive thanks to the win, but they will
still need to win out – without McNabb – to make
it back to the playoffs.

The Naughty Figs
pulled the shocker of the weekend, steamrolling
the defending Champion Abstract Machines 42-20
to keep their own playoff aspirations alive.
The Figs were powered by four players with double-digit
scoring: Lee Evans (19 points), Steelers D (16),
Josh Scobee (15), and Travis Henry (10). The
Machines could only counter such large numbers
with their Ravens defense (15 points), and Willie
Parker (9). The victory did not come without
a cost, however, as the Figs lost yet another
runner to injury with Kevin Jones going down
before scoring a point. The team pulled it together,
however, to score their third straight victory
over the Mechanical Ones.
Both clubs will now enter the season's final
two weeks with identical 4-7 records, and both
will need to win out to qualify for the playoffs.
Amazingly, if the season ended today, the
hard-luck Machines would actually find themselves
in the Draft Bowl.

| The Sims Stereco
avenged their only divisional loss of the season
with a 23-6 stomping of Jody's Colossal Waste
of Time. To be fair, Sims didn't so much as beat
Jody as Jody pretty much laid down. Carson palmer
led the charge for the visiting C.W.O.T. with
13 points, but the entire rest of the team scored
only 14 more (with the Falcons defense accounting
for half of that). Reggie Brown actually cost
the Pewter & Black two points with only a
lost fumble to show for his efforts. The Stereco
were also led by their quarterback, with Drew
Brees tossing for 10 points. The offense sputtered
behind him, too, but the Jaguar defense put the
game on ice with a 14-point performance.
The loss drops Jody to 6-5, leaving the C.W.O.T.
– who are already playoff eligible – still
still short on clinching an actual playoff
berth. The victory clinches a home playoff game
for the Stereco, their first since 1999. The
win also keep Sims alive in the Eastern race,
who will need to win out and have Anderson lose
out in order to steal the crown.

| The Pimps gave
the visiting Anderson Brewmeisters all they could
handle Sunday, right up until LaDainian Tomlinson
took the field. LT continued his unimaginable
scoring streak with four more touchdowns and
21 points, lifting the Brew Krew to their sixth
straight win. Peyton Manning was held to his
lowest point total of the season (5 points),
but Steve Smith and Ryan Longwell picked up the
slack with 8 apiece. The Pimps were led, not
surprisingly, by their Bears defense with 12
points, and then backed that up with a very balanced
offensive attack that saw five different starters
scored 5 or 6 points. Those totals weren't enough
to overcome Tomlinson's Sunday Night heroics,
however.
At 10-1, Anderson has tied the league record
for most regular season wins, already shared
by the 1998 Jody's C.W.O.T. (10-2) and the 2001
Pimps (10-3). The Brewmeisters are a win away
from breaking that record and clinching the Eastern
Division title and the No. 1 overall postseason
seed. The Pimps, meanwhile, drop back to 4-7
(with all seven losses coming inside the division)
and must now win out to become playoff eligible.
