| The Abstract
Machines snapped out of their four-game losing
streak in impressive fashion, doubling up the
Irwin Hellions 47-23 at Purgatory Field. The
Machines' Ravens defense – who tagged 38
points on Irwin in a Week 2 loss but had also
failed to score 13 in any of its last three
starts – led
the visitors with 22. Morten Anderson chipped
in 11, and Willie Parker led the Sunday offense
with 8. Irwin's offense went cold, with Donovan
McNabb contributing only 5 points – his
lowest output of the season. Chad and Andre Johnson
each had 7, but two other Hellion starters scored
only 1 apiece. With the game already decided,
Machine quarterback Tom Brady ripped the hosts
for a personal season-best 17 points on Monday
night, perhaps making a statement regarding the
defending champions reemergence.
As great a victory as it was, the win only bumps
the Machines up to 3-5, while Irwin slides down
to 3-4-1. Both clubs are remain in the thick
of the Western Division race, but both must also
win three of their final five games to qualify
for the playoffs.

| P.W.O.P.'s stay
atop the Western Division standings didn't last
long, as the Profiteer$ were ambushed in Bockville
by Thomas' Bock Boys, 45-23. Bock Boy QB Rex
Grossman played 23 points better than his last
start, passing for 14 points against the Profiteer$
(instead of giving 9 up against Piana). P.W.O.P.'s
Marques Colston matched Grossman's 14, and Shayne
Graham chipped in another 10, but Pirk's Bronco
defense – which scored 25 a week ago – actually
gave 4 points back to the Bock Boys. Thomas took
the lead for good Sunday night, with Marion Barber
and Keyshawn Johnson combining for 9 points.
Yet that wasn't good enough for dear ol' dad,
who then proceeded to allow his Patriots D drop
21 on the unsuspecting Oil Men on Monday night.
The win gives Thomas a season split with Pirk
while lifting the Boys to 3-5 on the year. The
loss snap's the Profiteer$' two-game winning
streak and evens their record at 4-4.

The Anderson
Brewmeisters continued their winning ways with
a 34-19 road victory over the woeful Naughty
Figs. The Figs made their first four transactions
of the season prior to the game, including
bringing in David Carr to sub for the injured
Matt Hasselbeck. Carr actually suited up for
the Brewskies a few weeks back with Peyton Manning
out on bye and posted a big fat zero. This week,
playing against his
former teammates, Carr scored a (minus)-4, which
was 21 points worse than Manning did for Anderson.
The Brewmeisters actually struggled outside of
the backfield, but Manning's 17 and LaDainian
Tomlinson's 21
paved the way to victory. The Figs were led
offensively by Joe Horn with 9 points, and their
Steelers defense hit Anderson hard for 24 points-against,
but they ultimately lacked the offensive firepower
to turn back the Brewmeisters.
Anderson improves to 7-1 and remains atop the
Eastern Division. The Figs, conversely, drop
to a league-worst 2-6 following their fourth
loss in five games.

| The Piana Raze
avenged their Championship Week loss from a year
ago with a 64-41 rout of Jody's Colossal Waste
of Time at En Fuego Field. Larry Johnson posted
his biggest game of the season, rolling through
the C.W.O.T. defense for 21 points. His rumblings
opened up the passing game for Marc Bulger (13
points) and Reggie Wayne (17), who helped put
the game away Sunday afternoon. The Raze only
got 2 points from their kicker and a lonely 1
from their struggling Bengals D. Jody didn't
fare much better, posting only 8 combined defense/special
teams points. On offense, the C.W.O.T. were led
by halfback Steven Jackson with 10 and Carson
Palmer with 9, but there simply wasn't enough
to counter the Raze's Johnson-Bulger-Wayne triumvirate.
The win – coupled with P.W.O.P.'s loss – puts
the Raze back atop the West with a record of
4-3-1. Jody, meanwhile, drops to 4-4 with consecutive
interdivisional losses. That record certainly
leaves the C.W.O.T. in good position for a playoff
berth, but the defending Eastern Division Champs are
now three games and a tiebreak back of the division-leading
Brewmeisters.

The Sims Stereco earned their first ever season
sweep over The Pimps with a 28-16 home victory
over the Feathered Ones. Michael Vick continued
his resurgence with a team-high 18-point effort,
easily besting his implosive Pimp counterpart
(Jake Delhomme with minus-1). Stereco placekicker
Robbie Gould chipped in another 11 points, and
Sims' Chiefs defense gave them 11 more. The Pimps,
to no surprise, were led by their Bears defense,
which still managed to sack the Stereco for 21
points. Yet they had four offensive starters
combine for only 5 points, leaving them on the
wrong end of the scoreboard.
Sims improves to 6-2 and is playoff eligible
for the first time since 2003. More importantly,
they're still in contention for their first division
title, trailing Anderson by only a game. The
Pimps drop back to 3-5 (0-5 in the division)
with the loss. As with the Machines, Irwin, and
Thomas, they will need three more wins over the
season's final five weeks to achieve playoff
eligibility.
