| Still stinging
from last week’s loss to the Stereco, The
Anderson Brewmeisters rebounded in a big way
to hammer the Abstract Machines 58-25,
in the process getting some revenge for the back-to-back
losses that ended their 2005 season. The
receiving duo of Torry Holt (17) and Steve Smith
(12) got the Brew Crew off to an early lead,
while the Machines kept it close behind 9 points
from Jeremy Shockey and 8 from Darrell Jackson. Things
were looking bad for the Brew as newly acquired
quarterback David Carr layed a goose egg. Later
in the game, however, when Ben Rothlisberger
(11) and Willie Parker (9) threatened to give
the AM’s the lead, the Brewmeister’s
LaDanian Tomlinson iced the game with a season
best 19 points off a four touchdown performance.
With the win, and the Stereco’s second
loss of the season, the Brewmeisters (5-1), retake
sole possession of the FLF Eastern Division. The
loss leaves the Machines in the Western Division
cellar at 2-4, but only one and a half games
out of first.

| The inconsistent,
but ever dangerous Naughty Figs got everyone
on the same page again, and laid a humiliating
46 – 1 whipping on the Pimps. Led
by Matt Hasselbeck’s 15, the Figs had four
other players score 9 or more, and their Steelers
defense piled on another 18 points against. The
Pimps’ Bears D countered with 18 of their
own, but the offense mostly took the day off,
as only kicker Jeff Reed (8) and QB Marc Brunell
(6) provided any meaningful scoring. The
Pimps did play a man short, with only two receivers
suiting up, but that really was not a factor
in this game, as even Shaun Alexander wouldn’t
have helped. In fact, not wasting a transaction
on a guy who wouldn’t have made any difference
was about the only thing that went right for
the Pimps this week
The Figs’ second win is the Pimps’ fourth
loss, which leaves both teams sharing the Eastern
Division cellar with 2-4 records.

The Piana Raze
moved into sole possession of the surprisingly
mediocre Western Division by pounding the Bock
Boys 41 – 13 at En Fuego Field. On
a weekend of drubbings, the Raze got into the
act when QB Mark Bulger tossed three touchdowns
to post a game-high 14 points, and Tiki Barber
and Terrell Owens added 11 each. The game
was actually held up for several minutes while
T.O. preened for the crowd after his third touchdown
reception, but the Raze players were able to
overcome the “T.O. Show” and tend
to business after that. The Bock Boys were
led by receiver Laveranues Coles’ 11 points,
but only Marion Barber was able to add as many
as 6 more. Going into the Monday night game,
the Boys actually had an outside chance to pull
out a win, but quarterback Rex Grossman imploded
on national TV. Throwing 4 pics and coughing
away 2 fumbles in a performance that may have
been the worst player performance ever, Grossman
actually stripped 9 points away from his own
team, which was 2 more than the Raze’s
Bengals defense managed to do.
The win gives the Raze a 3-2-1 record – the
only winning record in the division. What
makes this so surprising is that the Raze is
one of only two teams in the league which has
yet to reach 300 points. Perhaps they are
getting ready to “blast off.” The
loss puts the Bock Boys at 2-4 as their mini-winning
streak comes to an end; however, they are only
a game and a half back of the Raze, so the race
remains wide open in the West.

| Rounding out
the trend of lopsided home team wins, the Jodys
C.W.O.T. ran their record to 4-2 and moved into
a tie for 2nd place in the East with a trouncing
of the Sims Stereco by a score of 56 – 18. Led
by replacement kicker Josh Brown’s 14 points,
everyone on the team contributed solid performances,
with five players posting 7, 8, or 9 points. Meanwhile,
the Stereco seemed to take last weeks pounding
of the Brewmeisters as a sign they could just
show up and pencil in a win. The team looked
ill-prepared and disinterested for the most part. Running
back Tatum Bell scored a team best 8 points,
and tight end Todd Heap played well, adding another
6. But kicker Robbie Gould (6) was only
average, as were quarterback Michael Vick and
running back Julius Jones (5 each). Most
notably, the fill-in Chiefs Defense was nowhere
to be found, while Jody’s Panther D racked
up a solid 16 takeaway points.
So now the Jodys find themselves in familiar
territory with a solid 4-2 record. Though
the three previous wins had been against the
league’s weak sisters, they finally got
that elusive win over a quality opponent, and
looked good doing it. Meanwhile the Stereco
must hope to regain its focus this week against
the Thomas Bock Boys.

| The lone close
game of the week was also the only one in which
the home team lost. Pirkle’s Wicked
Oil Profiteers went into the Hell Hole and came
away with a hard fought and impressive intra-divisional
win over the Hellions, 41 – 38. With
a cast of one star and many supporting players,
P.W.O.P. quarterback Phil Rivers led all starters
with 13 points, while five of the other six Profiteers
each contributed 5 – 7. Hellions
receiver R Brown led his team with 13, with kicker
Nate Kaeding (12), wideout Deion Branch (11),
and QB Donovan McNabb (9) all making excellent
contributions. Once again, however, the
Hellions’ defense was its undoing. Already
using his third defense of the season, Irwin
tried the Eagles D this time, but their 5 points-against
performance was no match for the 17 point effort
of Pirkle’s Broncos.
The win moves the P.W.O.P. into sole possession
of 2nd place in the West with a 3-3 record. The
Hellions have now lost two in a row, by a combined
four points, and fall to 2-3-1 and 3rd place
in the West.
