An old school
Eastern Division rivalry is renewed for 2006
as Jody's Colossal Waste of Time visit The Pimps.
Both clubs enter the week 1-1, with their
respective loss credited to the Anderson Brewmeisters.
Their two wins have come against a pair of 0-2
teams, so this matchup provides the best measuring
stick for how they size up thus far.
Jody's loaded in the backfield, with Carson
Palmer,
Ronnie Brown, and Steven Jackson all capable of
having huge days. The receiving corps, however,
is young and unproven, and their Panthers defense
has yet to impress. Defense is The Pimps new calling
card, with their Bears team wrecking havoc on opponents.
Shaun Alexander has yet to get it going on offense,
though, which might be cause for concern.

| Pirk's Wicked
Oil Profiteer$ last visited the Sims Stereco
for last year's Draft Bowl, where they bested
their hosts before drafting Reggie Bush first
overall in last month's league draft. The good
news for both clubs in 2006 is that they're already
playing .500 ball, and one will emerge from this
one with their second win after just three weeks
of the season.
Bush made his FLF debut last week in Pirk's
victory over Thomas – scoring 3 points – but
the Profiteer backfield is a crowded one, with
Rudi Johnson, Carnell Williams, and Warrick Dunn
also available. The P.W.O.P. draftee Sims certainly
won't see is Philip Rivers, who will be out on
bye following his strong 9-point debut. Byron
Leftwich will get the call instead, possibly
being paired against Sims' Michael Vick, who
has yet to make a start this season.

| |
| In what can
easily be billed as the unofficial game of the
week, the undefeated Anderson Brewmeisters and
the undefeated Irwin Hellions renew their interdivisional
rivalry from the Hellhole. Anderson has the league's
only 2-0 mark following impressive wins over
Jody and The Pimps, while Irwin is coming off
an inspiring road victory over the Super Bowl
Champion Machines.
Anderson's offense has gotten off to a hot start
thanks to Peyton Manning and LaDainian Tomlinson.
LT won't be suiting up for this one though due
to a bye, leaving Chester Taylor and Brian Westbrook
with some big shoes to fill in the backfield.
Irwin will likely go with the hot hand of Donovan
McNabb, who was at the helm in the last two meetings
with the Brewmeisters – Super Bowl XII in 2004
and Neutral Site Week in 2005 – which both
resulting in Hellion victories.

| The Abstract
Machines hit the road for the first time, traveling
to take on the Piana Raze while hoping to shake
off the sting of last week's 19-17 loss to Irwin.
The Raze earned their first victory of the season
last week over the Stereco, but they're still
looking for that first divisional win having
tied the Hellions in the opener.
The Machines are probably pretty angry, having
lost a game last week in which their Ravens defense
posted one of the league's best single game mark
ever (38 points). That unit will be licking their
chops to do it again, but they'll need more support
from the offense this time around. Piana did
just enough to hold off Sims last week, but its
big star of the season thus far – kicker Adam
Vinatieri – is questionable with an injury and
stars Larry Johnson and Terrell Owens will be
sitting out on bye. The Raze have won three straight
over the Mechanical Ones, but they're supporting
cast will need to come up big if they're to push
that streak to four.

THOMAS 38, at Figs 27 |

| The Naughty
Figs and Thomas' Bock Boys will forever be linked
as the only two expansion franchises in the history
of the FLF. In the seventh season since their
inception, the two clubs are linked once again
with dubious 0-2 marks, having failed to get
a victory in the first two weeks of the 2006
campaign. The Figs have looked lifeless in losses
to Sims and Jody, while the Bock Boys at least
showed some spark in last week's loss to P.W.O.P.
Unfortunately for Thomas, who's making their
2006 home debut for the Bockville faithful, the
first bye week is a vicious one. Five players,
including three starters from a week ago, will
be sitting this one out. The Figs will be without
LaMont Jordan in the backfield due to a bye,
but a healed Clinton Portis will make his first
start of the season in his place. An 0-3 start
isn't a death knell to a season, but it only
leaves a much shorter ten weeks to get those
six wins needed for playoff consideration.
And desperation usually equates to great football.
