Week 13 Previews

Jody's C.W.O.T. at Naughty Figs
(7 - 5)   (5 - 7)
series history: Jody leads 7-4
last meeting: Week 6
Figs 8, at JODY 25

The regular season's ultimate weekend kicks off with a great Eastern Division matchup between two teams needing a win and some help to reach their separate goals. The C.W.O.T. have gone an amazing 6-1 in divisional play this year, but not even a seventh win will guarantee them the divisional title. The Figs' playoff hopes are dangling by a thread as they're currently on the outside looking in. History may be on their side, however, as the C.W.O.T. have dropped their last three Week 13 games.

What's at stake: A Jody win guarantees the C.W.O.T. a home playoff game. A Jody win coupled with an Anderson loss would give the C.W.O.T. the Eastern Division crown and a first-round bye. A Fig victory coupled with a Machines' loss would put the Figs in the playoffs as the No. 6 seed. A loss to Jody or a Machines' victory would end their season.

The Pimps at Sims Stereco
(4 - 8)   (4 - 8)
series history: Pimps lead 12-6
last meeting: Week 6
Sims 3, at PIMPS 41

The Pimps visit the Stereco in a battle of last-place teams in the Eastern Division. Both clubs will be playing mostly for pride, as the loser will fall into next week's Draft Bowl. It's been a rough go for The Pimps, who after starting the 2004 season 5-0, have gone 6-15 in the season-and-a-half since. Not to be outdone, the lowly Stereco have managed to win only 8 of their last 25 games. They could have a tough time winning number 9, as The Pimps have topped the Stereco in each of their last five meetings.

What's at stake: Neither team is going to the playoffs regardless of the outcome, but the loser will be Draft Bowl bound. The winner's season will end, but at least it'll end with a victory.

Thomas' Bock Boys at P.W.O.P.
(6 - 6)   (3 - 8 - 1)
series history: Thomas leads 7-4-1
last meeting: Week 5, 2004
Profiteer$ 19, at THOMAS 40

The two Pirkle franchises have had another rough year; as with 2004, Thomas enters Week 13 backing into the playoffs while P.W.O.P. preps for the Draft Bowl. Combined, they've gone a paltry 1-7 over the last month, but one of them is at least guaranteed a win this week (unless, of course, they tie as they did last year). Injuries have hit both teams hard, but i'm guessing Get Well cards are not being exchanged, being a family rivalry and all.

What's at stake: A Thomas victory coupled with a Jody loss would give the Bock Boys a home playoff game (against Jody) in next week's Wild Card Round. A P.W.O.P. victory would put Pirk on the road at the Pimps-Sims loser for next week's Draft Bowl. A P.W.O.P. loss would place the Draft Bowl in Oil Town.

Piana Raze at Irwin Hellions
(8 - 4)   (9 - 3)
series history: Piana leads 11-9
last meeting: Week 6
IRWIN 42, at PIANA 28

In what is certainly the unofficial Game of the Week, the Piana Raze visit the Irwin Hellions in a winner-take-all battle for the Western Division Crown. Not since 2000 has the annual season-ending meeting between these two clubs had so much on the line. Between them, Piana (3) and Irwin (4) account for seven of the eight Western Division titles awarded in the history of the FLF. The Raze have the league's longest current win streak (3), but have dropped three straight to the Hellions with an average margin-of-defeat of 26 points.

What's at stake: Very simply, the winner becomes the Western Division Champion and gets a first round bye. An Irwin victory also guarantees the Hellions the first overall seed.

Game of the Week
Anderson Brewmeisters at Abstract Machines
(8 - 4)   (5 - 6 - 1)
series history: Anderson leads 6-3
last meeting: Championship Week, 2004
Machines 34, at ANDERSON 44

The Anderson Brewmeisters bested the Abstract Machines in Championship Week, 2004 to earn a berth in Super Bowl VIII. The two clubs finally meet again to close out the 2005 regular season campaign, and for the Machines at least, the circumstances are eerily similar. At 5-6-1, the playoffs start now for the Mechanical Ones. They must beat the Brewmeisters to qualify for the playoffs and earn the available slot. A second straight home loss following last week's 39-27 defeat to Piana would end their season.

The Anderson Brewmeisters have plenty to play for as well. A victory would give them their second consecutive Eastern Division title, regardless of what the second-place C.W.O.T. do against the Figs. Luckily, history smiles upon the visitors, as the Machines haven't won a regular season finale game since the league's inaugural year of 1997.

What's at stake: An Anderson victory or Jody loss would give the Brewmeisters the Eastern Division title and a first round bye. A Machine victory would give the Abstracts the final available playoff spot. A Machine loss would end their season.
