Week 12 Recaps
Going Down to the Wire

Two more teams had their playoff tickets punched while two others became playoff ineligible, and the two divisions remained up for grabs. All this and more in..

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Irwin Hellions at Thomas' Bock Boys
42   33

The Irwin Hellions raced past Thomas' Bock Boys at Bockyard Stadium to hand the Boys their fourth consecutive loss and remove them from the division title conversation. Thomas actually built up a 27-0 Thanksgiving Day lead before the Hellions' Eli Manning (13 points), Andre Johnson (11), and Domanick Davis (9) brought the visitors back. Thomas' Randy Moss – arguably the biggest offseason trade acquisition of any team – was actually the low scorer from both sidelines, managing only a single point in the loss.

The win is Irwin's third straight over Thomas and second straight overall. At 9-3, the Hellions sport the league's top record, but have yet to clinch the Division crown with Piana (8-4) lurking only a game back. Amazingly, despite not having won since Week 8, the Bock Boys clinch a playoff berth thanks to Sims' loss to Anderson (see below).

Sims Stereco at Anderson Brewmeisters
46   73

Indeed, that 34-30 Stereco victory over Anderson seems so very, very long ago. Ten weeks after losing to Sims on the road, the Eastern-leading Brewmeisters made atonement, vanquishing the Stereco 73-46 at Saint Arnold Stadium. Each team had four players reach double-digits, but none of the Stereco could match Brewmeisters Lawerence Tynes' 15 or LaDainian Tomlinson's 19. Despite solid play from half its team, Sims did have two starters fail to contribute anything and a defense that managed only 1.

Anderson stays ahead of the pursing C.W.O.T. with the win and is now one victory shy of its second consecutive Eastern Division title. Sims drops to 4-8 with the loss and becomes the second team to lose playoff eligibility. Even worse, since winning the Super Bowl in 2002, the Stereco have now failed to reach the postseason tournament in each of the past three seasons.

Piana Raze at Abstract Machines
39   27

The Piana Raze swept the season series from the Abstract Machines thanks to a 39-27 road victory over the Mechanical Ones. Larry Johnson (10 points), Tiki Barber (9), and Trent Green (9) all had great games for the Raze, whereas Machine quarterback Tom Brady had his worst outing of the season, throwing four interceptions and scoring only a single point. Piana also won the defensive battle in decisive fashion as their Bengals unit bested the Machines' Ravens squad 15-5.

The win is the third straight for Piana, who moves to 8-4 with the victory and secures a guaranteed home game for the playoffs. More importantly, Piana could steal the Western Division with a victory over Irwin next week in the Hellhole. The Machines, meanwhile, fall to 5-6-1 and now face a must-win game at home against the Brewmeisters next week in order to make the playoff field.

Jody's C.W.O.T. at The Pimps
33   25

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time rebounded from their 36-30 home loss to the Machines last week with a 33-25 road victory over The Pimps. Having once lost eleven straight regular season games to the Feathered Ones, Jody has now won the last three in the series. Carson Palmer led all scorers with 15 points, while Jeff Wilkins (10), Steven Jackson (9), and T.J. Houshmandzadeh (9) all helped down The Pimps. The home team had a reasonable shot at a comeback, but placekicker Jeff Reed was shutout on Monday night, preserving the C.W.O.T. victory.

At 7-5, Jody clinches the fifth playoff berth and remains just a game back of Anderson in the East. The 4-8 Pimps are destined to miss the playoffs for the second time in three seasons as they become the third team to fall short of the required six wins for eligibility.

Naughty Figs at P.W.O.P.
33   22

The Naughty Figs prevented the playoff ineligibility trifecta thanks to a Monday Night rally that saw them down Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ in Oil Town, 33-22. Despite losing their starting quarterback (Byron Leftwich) to injury, Pirk got off to a hot start courtesy of Rudi Johnson (12 points) and the Eagles defense (18). The Figs were undeterred, as LaMont Jordan and rookie kicker Mike Nugent each scored 13 to draw the Figs close. Then, on Monday Night, the Figs' Colts defense mauled P.W.O.P.'s Hines Ward 17-4 to claim the interdivisional victory.

The win also moves the Figs 5-7 and alive (albeit barely) in the playoff race. The loss dooms the Profiteer$ to their second consecutive Draft Bowl appearance.
