Week 11 Previews

Anderson Brewmeisters at Naughty Figs
(6 - 4)   (4 - 6)
series history: Anderson leads 7-5
last meeting: Week 1
FIGS 19, at Anderson 15

Week 11 kicks off with an Eastern Division showdown pitting the division co-leading Anderson Brewmeisters against the struggling Naughty Figs. Both clubs are coming off divisional losses from a week ago, with Anderson losing to Jody and the Figs being shut out by the resurgent Pimps. With six wins, the Brewmeisters are at least already playoff eligible whereas the Figs are faced with having to win two of their final three games for a shot at the playoffs.

Peyton Manning had a huge game for Anderson last week, throwing for a team-high 15 points. The rest of the team, however, failed to get the job done against the C.W.O.T.. The good news for the Krew is that the league's most dangerous player – halfback LaDainian Tomlinson – will be back on the field following his bye. The Figs could use an offensive boost of their own following their 40-0 debacle in Week 10. However, the Naughty Ones did win the first half of this series (back in Week 1) thanks to a huge defensive effort, and might be able to pull off the season sweep with a similar effort.

Abstract Machines at Jody's C.W.O.T.
(4 - 5 - 1)   (6 - 4)
series history: Jody leads 5-4
last meeting: Week 6, 2004
Jody 24, at MACHINES 52

The Abstract Machines head East to take on Jody's Colossal Waste of Time in the first of three interdivisional bouts on tap for Week 11. Due to a scheduling quirk, this will be the Machines' first visit to the Vortex since 1999. They won't be able to enjoy the sites too much, however, as they're currently in the throws of a 1-3 stretch that threatens their playoff chances. The C.W.O.T., meanwhile, have surged into the division lead thanks to a 4-1 tally since Week 5.

As with the aforementioned Figs, the Machines must win two of their final three games to become playoff eligible. That road will be particularly difficult for the Mechanical Ones, whose last three opponents (Jody, Piana, Anderson) are all currently 6-4. Making immediate matters even worse, the C.W.O.T. are already 5-0 at home this season and will certainly be gunning for a perfect 6-0 mark. Carson Palmer and Antonio Gates will be back from byes to help the C.W.O.T.'s cause.

The Pimps at Irwin Hellions
(4 - 6)   (7 - 3)
series history: Irwin leads 8-3
last meeting: Week 7, 2004
IRWIN 79, vs Pimps 29

The Pimps have finally clicked into a higher gear – winning two straight – and they will put that momentum to the test as they visit the Hellhole and the suddenly downtrodden Irwin Hellions. At 4-6, the Feathered Ones are still two wins away from playoff consideration and have two division leaders (Irwin and Jody) on tap over the next two weeks. The Hellions enter Week 11 having dropped two straight to fall to 7-3, but they remain a game ahead of both Thomas and Piana in the West.

The Pimps have rallied behind the strong play of Shaun Alexander, who seems to always be having a career year. Injuries have thinned out much of the offensive depth, but The Pimps defensive combo of Chicago and Jacksonville have kept them in most games. The Hellions have been ravaged by injuries of late as well. Domanick Davis has missed to straight starts, and now Donovan McNabb may be lost for the season. Luckily, the Hellions get this game at home, where they're a perfect 4-0 on the season. The Pimps, by contrast, are 0-5 on the road (including neutral site week).

Sims Stereco at Thomas' Bock Boys
(3 - 7)   (6 - 4)
series history: Thomas leads 3-1-1
last meeting: Week 13, 2004
Sims 43, at Thomas 43

The Sims Stereco travel to Bockville to take on Thomas' Bock Boys in the last of Week 11's interdivisional games. The Stereco snapped a five-game losing streak last week with a surprising home win over Irwin, while the Boys have dropped consecutive road contests to Anderson and Piana. These two clubs closed out the 2004 regular season here at Bockyard Stadium, but failed to truly settle anything as that game ended in a 43-43 tie.

The Stereco are short on healthy/available bodies. Fred Taylor and Robert Ferguson have missed games to injury recently, and Terrell Owens remains suspended. Mike Vick and Larry Fitzgerald led the way in last week's victory, but they had to overcome a 0-point effort fro their own Cardinal defense. As the Dallas Cowboys go, so goes Thomas. The Bock Boys started four 'boys in last week's loss to Piana, and could do the same again against the Stereco. As with a lot of the Week 11 home clubs, Thomas has been perfect (4-0) in front of the Bockyard faithful, while Sims has been disastrous (0-5) away from home.

Game of the Week
P.W.O.P. at Piana Raze
(3 - 6 - 1)   (6 - 4)
series history: Piana leads 11-7
last meeting: Week 4
PIANA 16, at Profiteer$ 1

The Week 11 Game of the Week comes from En Fuego Field, where the Piana Raze host Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$. Both Western Division clubs are coming off divisional victories from a week ago. For Pirk, that win was a stay of execution, as the Profiteer$ will still need to win out if they're to have a shot at the playoffs. At 6-4, Piana has already matched its win total from a year ago and are only a game back in the divisional race.

After a possibly fatal start to the season, Pirk has rebounded to win two of its last four. Byron Leftwich is evolving into a team leader, while Warrick Dunn, Hines Ward, and Chris Chambers are all threatening offensive weapons. Jay Feely has been a rock on special teams, but the Philly defense has been more inconsistent than advertised. Piana's strength comes from its backfield, where Tiki Barber and Larry Johnson combined for 24 points in last week's win. The Raze receiving corps is young and thin while the quarterbacks are old and inconsistent. The strong play of the Cincy defense has been a surprise, and is one of the reasons Piana is contending for a fourth division title.

The Raze won the first half of this series in Oil Town, destroying the Profiteer$ 16-1. Another Raze victory would edge Piana closer to playoff qualification while shutting the door on P.W.O.P.'s own playoff aspirations.
