Week 10 Recaps
Jody Thumps Anderson

The C.W.O.T. stick it to the Brewmeisters thanks to a merciless defense, and Sims and Pirk avoid playoff elimination with big wins. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Anderson Brewmeisters at Jody's C.W.O.T.
14   34

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time made its largest statement of the season this week, ambushing the division-leading Anderson Brewmeisters, 34-14, at The Vortex.

Despite playing a man short thanks to a gametime scratch, the C.W.O.T. upended the defending division champs behind an incredible defensive and special teams performance. Jody's Panthers defense ravaged Anderson to the tune of 31 points, while placekicker Jeff Wilkins further kept the Brewskies at bay with 10 of his own. Marc Bulger and Steven Jackson led the way on offense, scoring 7 and 6 points, respectively.

Brewmeister Peyton Manning still managed to have his way with the C.W.O.T. secondary, throwing for 15 points. Brian Westbrook proved to be a reliable stand-in for the resting LaDainian Tomlinson, scoring 9 points, while receiver Donald Driver brought in another 6. Yet Anderson truly got beat on special teams and defense, where Lawrence Tynes and the Lions "D" combined for only 4 points – 37 less than their C.W.O.T. counterparts.

The C.W.O.T. victory puts Jody and Anderson in a first-place tie atop the East. Additionally, Jody now has five divisional victories on the season, which is the most they've had in a single season since the league's inaugural year of 1997 (when Jody posted a perfect 6-0 divisional mark). Anderson drops to 3-3 in divisional play, and would currently lose the tiebreaker to Jody should they finish the season with equal records.

Irwin Hellions at Sims Stereco
20   32

The Irwin Hellions made it two-for-two in terms of division leaders going down in Week 10, as the Sims Stereco pulled out a stunning interdivisional upset, 32-20. The Hellions played without a kicker, then lost another starter (Domanick Davis) at gametime; the Stereco, being accommodating hosts, also played a player short due to a gametime decision (Mike Williams). Moreover, their Cardinal defense failed to register a single point, ultimately transforming the game into a six-on-six contest.

Stereco teammates Mike Vick (13 points) and Larry Fitzgerald (10) rose to the occasion, besting Irwin's suddenly anemic offense. Edgerrin James scored 10 in the loss, but no other individual Hellion posted better than 5. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Stereco, who remain on the fringe of the playoff hunt. The West-leading Hellions have now dropped two in a row but retain the best overall record in the league.

Thomas' Bock Boys at Piana Raze
21   33

The Piana Raze bested the visiting Thomas' Bock Boys 33-21 at En Fuego Field, earning a season split in the divisional series while pulling even with the Boys in the standings. Raze quarterback Trent Green did all he could to hurt his own team (scoring minus-4 points), but halfbacks Tiki Barber and Larry Johnson combined for 24 points on the ground to spur on the offense. Adam Vinatieri had his best game in almost two months with 9 points, and the Raze's new Packer defense ripped Thomas for 15 points.

The Bock Boys fought back, with Randy Moss and Stephen Davis leading the charge with 7 points apiece. Thomas had an opportunity to get back into it Monday Night, but his Cowboy four-some only managed to score 22 of the 35 needed to win. The loss is the second straight for Thomas, who has now failed twice to capitalize on Irwin losses in the past couple of weeks. The win gets Piana back into the win column following last week's loss to The Pimps and improves their divisional record to 3-2.

Naughty Figs at The Pimps
0   40

The Pimps avenged an earlier road defeat to the Naughty Figs with a 40-0 thrashing of the Figgies at home. The visitors had only one offensive player score more than four points (LaMont Jordan with 5), while three others posted only 1 apiece. The Figs' Colts defense managed to hit double-digits with 10, but The Pimps' Jaguars unit bested than total by 16. And The Pimps didn't dominate just on defense; Shaun Alexander led all scorers (as he tends to do) with 17 points, while Joey Galloway and Jeff Reed chipped in 10 and 9, respectively.

The Pimps hammered their division rivals with the week's best overall performance to earn their second victory in as many weeks. Amazingly, the two-game winning streak is their first since Weeks 4 and 5 of 2004. As a result of the beatdown, both clubs now sit at 4-6, two games back of playoff eligibility with three to play.

Abstract Machines at P.W.O.P.
25   40

Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ broke back into the win column with a 40-25 divisional victory over the visiting Abstract Machines. Receivers Hines Ward and Chris Chambers came up big for the home team, scoring 9 points apiece. Halfback Warrick Dunn ran for another 8 while former-Machine Jay Feely accounted for 7 more. The Machines had three players score 8 (Tom Brady, Marvin Harrison, and Neil Rackers), but the five other starters – including the Ravens defense – each scored 3 points or less.

The win is just the third of the season for Pirk, who remain mathematically alive in the playoff race at 3-6-1. The 4-5-1 Machines, who are 0-2-1 in their last three meetings with the Men of Oil Town, drop back below .500 and must now win two of their final three to become playoff eligible.
