Week 8 Recaps
Jody Survives Stereco

The C.W.O.T. need the week's best effort to get past the surprising Stereco, and two games are decided by home field advantage. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Jody's C.W.O.T. at Sims Stereco
54   51

What was billed to be the Game of the Week actually delivered the goods this time around, with Jody's Colossal Waste of Time downing the Sims Stereco 54-51. The two teams combined for nine players with double-digit points. The C.W.O.T. were led by tight end Antonio Gates with his three touchdowns and 16 points. Steven Jackson (13 points), Carson Palmer (12), and the Panthers defense (10) made significant contributions in the win as well.

Sims had its best performance of the season and the second-best of Week 8. Yet the Stereco still came up short despite strong efforts from Drew Brees (13), Fred Taylor (11), Tatum Bell (11), Terrell Owens (11), and Sebastian Janikowski (10). The loss is fourth straight for the Stereco, who find themselves in the league's basement with five games to go. Jody squares its overall record to 4-4 with the win. More significantly, perhaps, the C.W.O.T. are now 4-1 in divisional play and stay hot on the heels of the division leading Brewmeisters.

The Pimps at Anderson Brewmeisters
42   45

The Pimps and the Anderson Brewmeisters staged a worthy sequel to their epic Week 3 53-51game, with the Brew Krew once again pulling out the narrow victory. Playing without Shaun Alexander, The Pimps hit hard and often in Saint Arnold Stadium with four players posting double-digits: Jake Delhomme with a team-high 16 points; Corey Dillon and Joey Galloway each with 10; and the Jaguars defense with 11. On the flip side, however, Jimmy Smith was held to a single point and Nate Burleson failed to score even that.

The Brewmeisters also had a receiver post a goose egg (Santana Moss), and LaDainian Tomlinson was held relatively in check (7 points) this time around, yet the defending Eastern Division champs persevered. Steve Smith ripped The Pimps secondary for 13 points, and Jake Plummer – fresh off the streets and thrown in the mix to replace Peyton Manning – posted a monster 19-point effort to secure Anderson's season sweep over the Feathered Ones. The Brew Krew remain a game better than Jody at 5-3, while The Pimps fall farther off the playoff radar as their record slips to 2-6.

Abstract Machines at Thomas' Bock Boys
20   21

Bockville must be a truly magical place for the Bock Boys to have now won two divisional tilts at Bockyard Stadium by a single point. This time around, the Abstract Machines fell just short of securing a season sweep of Thomas, losing to the Boys 21-20.

The Machines brought an extremely balanced attack, with each of the six offensive starters scoring between 3 and 6 points. Neil Rackers continued his hot season, booting 9 points while the Ravens defense ambushed Thomas for 12. The Boys were led by Stephen Davis (8 points) on offense, but it was the Cowboys defense that ultimately won the battle, stripping 16 from the Machines while posting 3 towards the offense for a defensive score. The loss is the second straight for the Abstracts and drops their record to 3-4-1. The win lifts the Boys to 6-2, keeping them square on the heels of the Hellions in the Western race.

Naughty Figs at Piana Raze
19   20

The Piana Raze survived a colossal flop to the short-handed Naughty Figs, nipping the visitors by a single point at En Fuego Field, 20-19. The Figs took the field without a quarterback or a placekicker, but nearly pulled off the improbable upset after Piana's active QB/PK duo of Mark Brunell and Adam Vinatieri combined for a single point.

The FIgs that did play brought their "A" game, as Lamont Jordan (9 points), Jerry Porter (12), and Deion Branch (8) attacked the Raze from the outset. Piana fought back with 13 points from Tiki Barber, 8 from Kevin Curtis, and 16 from their Bengals defense. The Figs' Steelers squad fell just short of scoring the upset, scoring 13 points on Monday Night. The home-field victory – however embarrassing– moves the Raze to 5-3. The loss drops the Naughties to 3-5.

P.W.O.P. at Irwin Hellions
22   48

The only game not decided by three points or less came from the Hellhole, where the division-leading Irwin Hellions mauled Pirk's struggling Profiteer$, 48-22. P.W.O.P. was led by newly signed Rod Smith with 7 points, but the other five offensive starters combined for just 12 more. Brett Favre – facing his old team for the first time – had a forgettable game, tossing five picks for minus-1 point. Topping that, Pirk's Eagles defense actually gave 7 points to the Hellions. Not that they needed it mind you, with Donovan McNabb throwing for 12 and Eddie Kennison catching for 9. It wasn't the best Hellion performance we've seen lately, but it was good enough to avenge their only loss on the season while stretching their current winning streak to six games.
