| The West-leading
Irwin Hellions used a miraculous Monday Night
comeback to nip the East-leading Anderson Brewmeisters,
18-17, at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana.
The Hellions managed to stuff Anderson's ground
game almost entirely, holding LaDainian Tomlinson
to a single point and Brian Westbrook to 5. Yet
Anderson took the lead through the air thanks
to having the two highest-scoring Week 7 receivers
(Santana Moss and Donald Driver, both with 9).
Torry Holt, however, was a costly game-time scratch.
Irwin struggled to keep up offensively, particularly
with Anderson's Lions defense bringing the hammer
down with 23 points-against. Edgerrin James and
Domanick Davis combined for 21 points, but Donovan
McNabb was held to 5 and Irwin's three receivers
to a combined 8. Staring down a 25-point deficit
heading into Monday Night, Irwin got the miracle
they needed as their Falcons squad ripped 23 points
back away from Anderson and provided a defensive
score of its own. This 26-point effort clipped
the Brewskies by one, sending the Hellions pouring
onto the field at Notre Dame Stadium.
Irwin moves to 6-1 with the win and retains its
lead in the competitive Western Division. Anderson
sees its four-game winning streak snapped and
drops to 4-3, just a game ahead of Jody and the
Figs in the East. Moreover, the Hellions are now
in their heads, having won the last four meetings
with the Brewmeisters.

| A day after the
Texas Longhorns dressed down the Texas Tech Red
Raiders, Thomas' Bock Boys put on hurt on The
Pimps, 41-11, on the same field in Austin, Texas.
Daunte Culpepper finally put up a Daunte Culpepper-like
performance this season, tearing up The Pimps'
secondary for a team-high and personal season-best
14 points. Priest Holmes exploded for 11 more,
providing enough combined points with Culpepper
to outscore the entire Pimps' offense.
The Pimps regressed quickly after scoring a win
last week, with only one offensive starter (not
including the kicker) to score over three points
(Kerry Collins with 6). Kicker Jeff Reed provided
the best counter-attack against the Boys with
9 points, and the new Bears defense managed to
clip Thomas' Cowboys squad 13-12. Yet this was
too little, too late for The Pimps, who drop to
2-5 with the loss. Thomas improves to 5-2 and
remains just a game back of the division-leading
Hellions.

The Piana Raze
downed Jody's Colossal Waste of Time, 41-25, at
the Astrodome, earning their first win over the
C.W.O.T. since Neutral Site Week in 2000. Mark
Brunell had his second straight double-digit game,
throwing for a game-high 14 points against the
C.W.O.T.. The rest of the Raze offense struggled,
but Kevin Curtis (7 points) and Tiki Barber (6)
managed to both reach the endzone in the win.
Jody hammered away at the Raze with a dominant
running game. First-round pick Ronnie Brown rumbled
for 9 points while Steven Jackson sliced his way
through the Raze defense for an additional 12.
Ultimately, however, Jody was let down by their
Dolphins defense, which actually gave a point
back to Piana. The Raze's own Bengals defense
played well enough, stripping Jody of 8 points
in the loss. The C.W.O.T. fall back under .500
to 3-4, while the Raze snap a two-game skid and
improve to 4-3.

| Football purists
say defense and a running game wins games, and
such might be the case for the 2005 Naughty Figs.
The Naughties got a combined 46 points from those
two positions as they stuffed the Abstract Machines
in Abilene, 29-7, for the Eastern Division's lone
Neutral Site victory. Clinton Portis had his best
effort of the season Sunday, rushing for three
touchdowns and 15 points, but the rest of the
offense – six players – managed only
16. Thankfully, the Colts defense had its way
with the Machines, posting 26 game-clinching points.
The Machines failed to find their offensive rhythm,
with only one player scoring over 6 points (kicker
Neil Rackers with 8). The four-member receiving
corps was held to a combined 11 points, and –
making matters worse – the Ravens defense
managed only 5 points-against. The loss drops
the Machines back to .500 at 3-3-1, while the
win – their second in three weeks –
elevates the Figs to 3-4, just a game back of
Anderson in the East.

Oil Profiteer$ snapped a four-game losing streak
to the Sims Stereco with a 33-17 win amongst the
oil wells in Odessa, Texas. Brett Favre showed
flashes of his past, ripping the Stereco defense
for a 12 points, while halfback Warrick Dunn ran
for 8 more on Monday Night. Despite playing without
an active kicker, Pirk got the win thanks in part
to a huge 19-point defensive effort from their
Eagles squad.
The Stereco were led by Sebastian Janikowski
(8 points) and Larry Fitzgerald (7). Only one
other offensive starter scored more than 3, and
the Saints defense managed only 6, leaving the
Stereco staring at their third straight loss and
a dangerous 2-5 record. Even with the win, P.W.O.P.
isn't fairing much better in the standings, having
a new mark of 2-4-1.
