Week 3 Recaps
Greatest. Game. Ever.

The Pimps and Brewmeisters play a wild one for the record books, and the dreaded "Tie" rears its ugly head. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Anderson Brewmeisters at The Pimps
53   51

With his team facing a seemingly probable 0-3 start to the season, LaDainian Tomlinson played arguably the best game of his career to rally the defending Eastern Division champs to a remarkable victory over The Pimps. Facing an 18-point deficit heading into Sunday Night, Tomlinson ran for 192 yards and three touchdowns, threw for another score, and ultimately posted a staggering 22 points to steal the victory.

The Pimps played the best game in the franchise's eight-plus year history. Shaun Alexander exploded for 4 touchdowns and 19 points. Corey Dillon found the endzone twice more and put up a dime. Kerry Collins shredded the Brewskie secondary for 13 points, and The Pimps' Jaguar defense mauled the visitors for 23 points-against. All said, The PImps posted 87 all-purpose points, eclipsing their previous team-best of 76.

Amazingly, Anderson stole the victory without setting a similar franchise record, but they had to do so with Peyton Manning only contributing 3 points. Before Tomlinson's heroics, Brian Westbrook (16 points), Steve Smith (15), and Torry Holt (11) helped the team claw its way back into the game. Anderson's Patriots defense also contributed its best effort of the young season, stripping 13 points from The Pimps.

The heart-wrenching defeat is the second straight divisional loss for The Pimps, who fall to 1-2. The win is the first of the season for the Brewskies, who also started 0-2 in 2004 before winning nine of their final eleven to claim the Eastern crown.

*Personally, I think both teams should take a bow, combining for 9 players in double digits and 176 total points. I realize a bow does not equal a win, but what an amazing game!

Jody's C.W.O.T. at Thomas' Bock Boys
25   38

Thomas' Bock Boys bested Jody's Colossal Waste of TIme 38-25 in a Week 3 battle of unbeatens, leaving the Boys the lone undefeated team in the league. After two straight victories at home, Jody's first road trip went south in hurry as four starters combined for only 7 points. Marc Bulger did his part, however, throwing for a team-high 9 points while Antonio Gates and kicker Jeff Wilkins each contributed 8 in the loss.

Thomas' game MVP was quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who led the Boys with 13 points in his first start of the season. For those scoring at home, Bledsoe's 13 was 17 points better than Daunte Culpepper's first two weeks combined. The rest of the offense provided consistent but unspectacular support, and the Cowboy defense secured the win with a solid 11-point effort. The loss is Jody's fifth straight in interdivisional play (not counting last season's Draft Bowl victory over Pirk), while the win gives Thomas its first-ever 3-0 start to a season.

Irwin Hellions at Naughty Figs
52   15

The Naughty Figs were embarrassed 52-15 on their home field by the defending champion Irwin Hellions in a rematch of last season's Western Championship Game. The visitors, perhaps steaming from their narrow Week 2 loss to P.W.O.P., posted 73 all-purpose points despite having one receiver failing to contribute anything. First-round selection Brandon Lloyd led the offense with 13 points, while Donovan McNabb and Chad Johnson posted 11 and 10, respectively. Defensively, Irwin's Falcons unit crushed the Figs' Bills team 18-3 to put the home team into an insurmountable hole.

The Naughty Ones tried to fight their way out, with halfbacks Willis McGahee and LaMont Jordan combining for 17 points and rookie placekicker Mike Nugent booting an additional 8. The passing game was D.O.A., however, with Chad Pennington posting a minus-1 and his three receivers combining for only 7 points. The loss to Irwin should be painfully familiar for the Figs; they've dropped every one of their seven career meetings with the Hellions.

P.W.O.P. at Abstract Machines
40   40

Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ and the Abstract Machines had their hard-fought Western Division showdown end in a dramatic tie following the heroics – and ultimately the inaccuracy – of P.W.O.P. placekicker Jason Elam. Entering Monday night facing a twelve-point deficit, Elam kicked three field goals and three PATs for 13 points, putting Pirk up by one. Then, late in the fourth quarter and trying to pad his team's lead, Elam missed a 43-yarder, costing the visiting Profiteer$ a point and – consequently – the win.

Hines Ward led the Profiteer offense with 12 points, but Chris Chambers and rookie Carnell Williams each had a very respectable 8. Brandon Stokely, however, fell one yard shy of registering a single point, and the Eagles defense had their worst game of the year, stripping the Machines of only a point. Working with an 0-2 record, the Abstracts infused their lineup with some new talent, and Willie Parker (3 points), Neil Rackers (12), and the Bears defense (8) made immediate contributions. No Machines found the endzone, however, leaving enough room for Elam's Monday Night comeback.

Sims Stereco at Piana Raze
22   50

The Piana Raze cooled off the Sims Stereco with a 50-22 interdivisional rout at En Fuego Field. Piana's Bengals defense gets the game ball, having assaulted the Stereco to the tune of 20 points. Adam Vinatieri chipped in 11 special teams points, and first-overall draft pick Julius Jones ran for 9 more to pace the offense.

The Stereco got great production from their big three: Michael Vick scored 10 points, Fred Taylor 8, and Terrell Owens 7. Yet the supporting cast came up short, and the Cardinals defense actually gave 4 points back to the Raze. The win is Piana's second straight and puts them above .500 for the first time this season. The loss is Sims' second straight away from home and drops the Stereco to 1-2.
