Week 12 Recaps
Brewmeisters Win East

Anderson routs Piana, then claims Eastern Crown as Figs and Pimps lose, and two teams from the West punch their playoff tickets. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Anderson Brewmeisters at Piana Raze
58   24

The Anderson Brewmeisters used a record-setting day to cool off the Piana Raze and ultimately clinch their first Eastern Division title since their inaugural season of 1998.

Despite putting up a record gross score of 99, this game was practically over before the turkey was served on Thanksgiving. Peyton Manning did all the carving, to the tune of 23 points off of six touchdowns – and not a single one to the Raze's Reggie Wayne. Brian Westbrook (13 points) and LaDainian Tomlinson (11) each reached double digits, as did kicker Phil Dawson with 12. Piana countered as best they could; Adam Vinatieri continued his hot play with 11 points, and Keary Colbert brought in another 10. William Green and Tiki Barber combined for 14, but quarterback Trent Green managed to underscore Manning by 20 points. The two defenses had an impressive slugfest, though, with Anderson's Patriots clipping Piana's Steelers 25-19.

The win is only the second ever for Anderson over Piana and first since 1998. At 8-4, the Brewmeisters now sit a game ahead of both The Pimps and Naughty Figs in the East and have the deciding tiebreakers over each. With the division title, Anderson will earn a bye in the first round and host a playoff game at Saint Arnold Stadium for the first time in six years. For the Raze, the loss snaps their four-game winning streak and puts them on the outside looking in at the playoff picture. At 6-6, Piana must defeat the Irwin Hellions next week to extend their season.

Naughty Figs at Irwin Hellions
35   44

The surging Irwin Hellions won their third straight game with an impressive 44-35 decision over the Naughty Figs. Donovan McNabb (11 points), Domanick Davis (12), and Chad Johnson (9) led the balanced Hellion attack. The Figs rebounded with a career day from Willis McGahee (19 points) and a combined 25 from Fred Taylor, Santana Moss, and Joe Horn. The Hellions' Falcons defense shut down the rally, doubling up the Figs' Seahawks unit, 14-7.

Irwin's win, coupled with The Pimps' loss to Jody, clinches a playoff spot for the Hellions. Moreover, Irwin remains in contention for the Western Division title heading into the season's final week. The Figs, meanwhile, are moving in the opposite direction, having now lost three straight and their once-tight grasp on the Eastern Division crown. Despite the slide, a win next week over The Pimps will still clinch the franchise its first ever playoff berth.

Jody's C.W.O.T. at The Pimps
40   17

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time snapped a six-game losing streak with a 40-17 pounding of their longtime owners, The Pimps. Before this week's win, the C.W.O.T. had dropped a staggering 12 straight regular season games to the Feathered Ones.

Jody posted its best effort of the season, thanks largely to its Dolphins defense, which finally came alive with a crushing 32-point game. Tight end Antonio Gates contributed 11 to go with Aaron Brooks' 8, and kicker Josh Scobee booted an additional 10. The Pimps had four players score 8 or more (Carr, Dillon, Smith, and Bruce), but their Giants defense only managed to stick the C.W.O.T. for a five-point loss. The loss is their fifth in seven games after starting 5-0, and they may now be facing a must-win game with the Naughty Figs next week. The win keeps Jody from hitting double digits in the loss column, but the C.W.O.T. remain in position to host the Draft Bowl.

Abstract Machines at Sims Stereco
46   44

The Abstract Machines nearly let one get away from them before holding off the Sims Stereco, 46-44. Marvin Harrison erupted on Thanksgiving Day for a season-high 15 points, and Jerome Bettis followed that up with 9 of his own. Kicker Morten Anderson kicked 9-points' worth as well, but Tom Brady and the staunch Ravens defense combined for a mere 5 points in the effort. Sims countered with 14 from the explosive Mike Vick and another 10 from the reliable David Akers. Ronald Curry came up big in the four-receiver set, scoring 9 points to help make up for Amani Toomer's goose egg. After Sunday, the Stereco found themselves with a narrow one-point lead, but the Machines' Donald Driver bested Sims' Marshall Faulk 7-4 on Monday Night to steal back the win.

The win clinches a playoff spot for the Machines, who will only need a Week 13 victory over Pirk or an Irwin loss to Piana to clinch their first ever division title. The Stereco, meanwhile, drop to 4-8 and have officially become playoff ineligible for the second straight year.

Thomas' Bock Boys at P.W.O.P.
29   29

The defending Super Bowl Champion Thomas' Bock Boys and Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ fought an ugly game that ended in a 29-29 draw, the first tie game in the league since Week 3, 2002 (Machines and Pimps).

P.W.O.P. jumped out to the early lead behind a season-high 16 points from Rudi Johnson and another dozen from receiver Brandon Stokely. Randy Moss made his return to the lineup with a respectable 5 points. Yet rookie Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger suffered his second 3-point effort in three weeks, and Pirk's Lions defense actually coughed up a point to the Bock Boys, keeping the visitors in the game. Thomas was led offensively by quarterback Daunte Culpepper and halfback Reuben Droughns with 8 and 6 points, respectively. The Boys' Eagles defense really brought them back into it, hammering the P.W.O.P. offense for 18 points to bring the champs to within 4. On Monday Night, kicker Jeff Wilkins booted 2 extra points but went 1 of 2 from the field, leaving Thomas a point shy of the victory.

The tie puts the Bock Boys a half-game up on Piana for the final playoff spot. A win over Sims next week or a Piana loss will be needed if Thomas will get a chance to defend their Super Bowl title in the postseason. As for Pirk, the tie snaps a five-game losing streak to Thomas, but they're still likely to play in Draft Bowl VIII.
