| The Piana Raze
hammered the Eastern Division leading Naughty
Figs 52-16, snapping the Figs' four-game winning
streak while extending their own to three.
For the second straight game, Piana did most
of its damage through special teams and defense.
Kicker Adam Vinatieri (18 points) and the Steeler
defense (26) combined for 44 points a week after
ripping Thomas for 39. Tiki Barber also had a
strong showing with 11 points, and rookie Michael
Clayton scored 8. In a surprise move, Trent Green
was brought in to start in place of Marc Bulger,
but his three turnovers limited his production
to only 4 points. From the opposite sideline,
only Joe Horn (11) and Josh Brown (13) scored
double-digits, and the halfback duo of Clinton
Portis and Willis McGahee were held to a combined
9 points.
The win is Piana's first over the Figs since
2000 and their first over an Eastern opponent
this year. More importantly, the victory is the
fourth in five games for the Raze, who have erased
a 1-4 start and now sit in the think of the playoff
hunt at 5-5. The loss drops the Figs to 7-3, but
they retain a narrow one-game lead over The Pimps
and the Brewmeisters in the Eastern Division race.

Machines built an early lead and then managed
to outlast a furious Pimps rally to score a 24-19
victory in interdivisional play. Curtis Martin
– the only back in a run-and-shoot
lineup – scored a team-high 12 points for
the visiting Machines, and quarterback Tom Brady
accounted for an additional 9. The four receivers
on duty, however, only combined for 5 points,
leaving door open for The Pimps. The Feathered
Ones responded with an aggressive ground attack
that saw Shaun Alexander and Corey Dillon combine
for 15 points, and new starters Jason Witten and
the Giants defense had impressive debuts with
13 and 9 points, respectively.
For the second straight week, though, it appears
The Pimps Texans' connection let the team down.
Quarterback David Carr self destructed with his
worst start of the season at (minus)-3 points,
and kicker Kris Brown was subsequently held to
only a point, sabotaging any serious attempt at
a comeback. The win catapults the Machines to
7-3, a full two games better than anyone else
in the West. For The Pimps, their struggles continue.
They've now lost four of their last five, but
remain just a single game back of the Figs in
the Eastern race.

The schizophrenic
Irwin Hellions regrouped after consecutive losses
to hammer Thomas' Bock Boys 51-28 at Purgatory
Field. The win somewhat avenges an embarrassing
58-0 defeat to the Bock Boys in Week 6 and earns
an important split in the season series. Everything
came together for Irwin like it did in the opening
weeks of the season, with Donovan McNabb scoring
20 points and Domanick Davis chipping in 14 more.
The Falcons defense had their best game in the
Hellion lineup, stripping Thomas of 22 points.
To their credit, the Bock Boys never folded, despite
not having a healthy runningback to start. Daunte
Culpepper (20), Muhsin Muhammad (15), and the
Eagles defense (14) all reached double-digits
in the loss. The Hellions victory creates a three-way
jam for second in the West with Irwin, Thomas,
and Piana all at 5-5, two games back of the Machines.

and the Anderson Brewmeisters put the kibosh on
P.W.O.P.'s short-lived two-game winning streak,
pounding the Wicked Oil Profiteer$ 44-12 at Saint
Arnold Stadium. Manning ripped through Pirk's
defense for 17 points – his fourth
straight 16+ point effort – while Brian
Westbrook (9 points) and Derrick Mason (8) provided
additional support. Brandon Stokley led all Profiteer$
with 13 points, but three other starters were
held to 2 or less. Anderson finally put the game
away on defense, as their Patriots squad crushed
Pirk's Lions team 28-9. The win is the sixth of
the season for the Brewmeisters (6-4), matching
last year's regular season total. More importantly,
it moves Anderson to within a game of the first
place Naughty Figs in the Eastern race. Pirk dips
back into the loss column, falling to 3-7 and
back in line for a Draft Bowl berth.

| The Sims Stereco
used a monstrous Monday night comeback to down
Jody's Colossal Waste of Time 37-33 at the Vortex
and earn their first divisional victory of the
season. Down 19 points after Sunday, Stereco stud
Terrell Owens went for 130 yards, three scores,
and 16 points while David Akers booted seven extra
points in rallying Sims past the C.W.O.T.. Jody
had built the lead behind a trio of solid performances:
receiver Drew Bennett had 10 points while Aaron
Brooks and Deuce McAllister each had 9. Even the
C.W.O.T.'s Chiefs defense had a respectable week
with 10 points. The Stereco, however, managed
to stay within reach thanks mostly to 12 points
from their Cardinals "D" and 8 from
Mike Vick.
With the dramatic win, Sims improves to 4-6 and
remains in the playoff hunt. Meanwhile, the loss
is Jody's fifth straight – second straight
as a result of a Monday Night comeback – and
their eighth overall, making the defending Eastern
Division champions playoff ineligible for only
the second time in their franchise history.
