Oil Profiteer$ picked themselves up off the mat
to upset the Irwin Hellions at Purgatory Field,
33-23, and earn a surprising sweep over their
Western Division rivals.
After a week of several personnel moves, it was
one of the long-standing Profiteer$ that ultimately
did-in the Hellions. Ahman Green had his second
consecutive 14-point outing, providing some much
needed offense with Randy Moss unable to go and
first-time starter Byron Leftwich struggling (1
point). Some new faces did contribute, however,
particularly on defense where Pirk's new Lions
defense bested Irwin's Falcons squad 13-3. The
Hellions offense was led by Donovan McNabb and
Edgerrin James, who each scored 7. Jimmy Smith
brought in an additional 5, but three other starters
combined for only 6, squashing their comeback
bid.
The win is only the second for P.W.O.P. this
season, but both wins have come at Irwin's expense.
The Hellions slide back down 4-4 with the loss,
a game back of first in the West.

| The visiting
Piana Raze stunned the Western Division leading
Abstract Machines 54-39 to earn a season split
in the divisional series while snapping the Machines'
four-game winning streak. Perhaps caught looking
past Piana, the Machines were run over by an inspired
Raze offense that had three starters score 12
points or more.
Jake Plummer rebounded from a rough start last
week to lead Piana with 16 points. Tiki Barber
and Reggie Wayne scored a dozen apiece, while
tight end Randy McMichael added 7 insurance points
on Monday night. The Machines rallied with 12
from Marvin Harrison and 10 from Curtis Martin,
but three other players were held to 2 or less.
Their Ravens defense easily bested Piana's underachieving
Bronco squad 8-0, but the deficit was too much
to overcome. The loss drops the Mechanical Ones
to 5-3 and into a first-place tie with the victorious
Bock Boys. Piana continues its slow crawl towards
playoff eligibility, improving to 3-5.

Priest Holmes
and Thomas' Bock Boys rolled past the Anderson
Brewmeisters for the sixth time in as many chances,
this time besting the Brewskies by 22 at Bockyard
Stadium. Holmes had his second straight monster
game, this time torching Anderson's defense for
18 points a week after ripping Jody for 19.
Surprisingly, it was Anderson's Peyton Manning
that led all scorers in the game. Playing mostly
from behind, Manning threw for an impressive 22
points, but his supporting cast failed match his
heroic effort. Receiver Keyshawn Johnson had a
pair of scores for 10 points, but LaDainian Tomlinson
and Mewelde Moore only combined for 9 on the ground.
Most discouraging, the once-heralded Patriots
defense bottomed out with a season-low minus-3
points. For the Bock Boys, Daunte Culpepper was
held to his season-low 4 points, but Tony Gonzales
and Plaxico Burress scored 12 and 9 points, respectively,
to ensure the victory.
Anderson drops to 4-4 with their second consecutive
loss, two games back of the Eastern lead. Thomas
extends its winning streak to three games and
is now tied with the Abstract Machines atop the
Western Division at 5-3.

| A week after
being hammered by 50-points in a loss to the Irwin
Hellions, The Pimps took out their offensive frustrations
on the Sims Stereco, whipping their division rivals
63-35. In fact, the 63 points is the highest game
total for The Pimps in the 8-year history of the
franchise.
Four Pimps reached double-digits in the rout:
Shaun Alexander led the charge with 17 points,
Rod Smith was next with 14, and then David Carr
and Peerless Price had 10 apiece. Corey Dillon
was a late scratch, but his absence didn't seem
to phase the home team, who tacked on an additional
20 points in defense and kicking. Sims got a season's
best 17 from Mike Vick, and Terrell Owens and
Ashlie Lelie each benefited for 8 of their own.
Yet two starters posted zeros, and the new Cardinal
defense managed only to steal 4 points from their
opponent. The loss is Sims' third in four games
and drops them to 3-5. The Pimps, meanwhile, rebound
from a two-game losing streak to maintain a share
of the Eastern lead with a 6-2 record. The six
wins matches their total from all of last season
and makes them playoff eligible with still five
weeks to go.

| The Naughty Figs
completed a season sweep of the defending division
champion Jody's C.W.O.T. with a 43-34 victory
at The Vortex.
Neither club put up offensive fireworks. Joey
Harrington made the most of his start for the
Figs, scoring 9 points, but halfbacks Clinton
Portis and Fred Taylor combined for a mere 6.
Rod Gardner had a solid game with 8 points, and
kicker Josh Brown had a game-high 12 to keep the
C.W.O.T. at bay. With Aaron Brooks out on bye,
Jody was forced to go with Matt Hasselbeck, who
posted 6 points, or seven more than he managed
last week. Thankfully, Chris Brown played through
the pain, tearing up the Figs defensive front
for 11 points, and Antonio Gates brought down
9 more. With the team trailing but within reach,
Jody's Dolphin defense imploded Monday night a
la the Patriots, posting a minus-3 to seal the
Fig victory.
The win is the third straight for the Figs and
6th overall, matching the franchise's best win
total for a season, set in both 2000 and 2001.
More importantly, the sixth win makes them playoff
eligible with still a month to play. Jody, however,
drops to a dangerous mark of 2-6 and would need
four wins in the season's final five weeks for
a shot at the postseason tournament.
