The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Abstract Machines vs Anderson Brewmeisters
42   11

The Abstract Machines ran their win streak to four while cooling off the the Anderson Brewmeisters with a 42-11 win in Brew-friendly Artesia, New Mexico.

Machine Marvin Harrison finally gave a Marvin-esque performance, slicing up the Anderson defense with a team-high 10 points. Tom Brady, Darrell Jackson, and kicker Morten Anderson each chipped in 8 more fuel the offense. Peyton Manning got the Brewmeisters off the mat with an inspired 16-point effort, but no one else wearing maroon and cream scored more than 5. Even the first-overall drafted Patriots defense was taken to school and back again by the Machines' Ravens squad, 28-5.

With the win, the 5-2 Machines keep sole possession of first in the West. The loss snaps Anderson's four-game win streak, but they remain only a game back in the East.

Irwin Hellions vs The Pimps
79   29

The Irwin Hellions rebounded from a 58-0 embarrassment last week to throttle the Eastern-leading Pimps by 50-points on the blue turf of Bronco Stadium in Boise, Idaho. Irwin's 79 points is a new league record, eclipsing Anderson's 76 scored in 2002.

The Hellions spread the scoring wealth, with five players posting 9 or more points. Donovan McNabb led the attack with a game-high 19, while kicker Neil Rackers booted 14 more. Receivers Chad Johnson, Jimmy Smith, and Chris Chambers combined for 29 as they ran up the score. The Pimps couldn't counter the ambush, with only Corey Dillon and Rob Smith scoring above 5. Perhaps most embarrassing, however, was the defensive play during the game. Both units – Irwin's Falcons and The Pimps' Cowboys – actually added points to the other team's total.

Irwin improves to 4-3 with the high-energy win and remains only a game back of the Machines in the West. The Pimps have now dropped two straight following a blistering start and find themselves tied with the Figs atop the East.

Thomas' Bock Boys vs Jody's C.W.O.T.
32   26

After winning twelve straight regular season games against Western Division teams, Jody's Colossal Waste of Time has now dropped two in as many weeks following a 32-26 loss to Thomas' Bock Boys in Colorado Springs. The C.W.O.T. played one of their better games against the Bockers, as Deuce McAllister and Javon Walker each scored 9 points while rookie kicker Josh Scobee had a very impressive 14. Thomas countered with the usual suspects, led by Priest Holmes with a monster 19-point half followed by Daunte Culpepper and Thomas Jones, each with 7. The ineptness of the Bock Boy receivers (5 points total) managed to keep Jody in the game, but quarterback Matt Hasselbeck self destructed with four interceptions and minus-1 point.

The win puts the defending Super Bowl champions over .500 for the first time since the season's opening week. Jody, meanwhile, has now dropped five of their last six games and has already matched last year's loss total after only seven weeks.

Piana Raze vs Sims Stereco
35   39

In a battle of teams looking to stay in the playoff picture, the Piana Raze coughed up a prime opportunity to steal an interdivisional win away from the Sims Stereco. With the Raze down 8 points heading into Monday Night, Jake Plummer and the Bronco defense took the field to rally the team. Plummer, making his first start of the season ahead of Marc Bulger, had a horrible game, scoring only 3 points while tossing two interceptions. The Bronco D also suffered its worst outing of the year, managing only 5 points. Stereco receiver Ashlie Lelie provided the scoring difference, pulling down 4 points under the lights. Earlier in the game, Terrell Owens and David Akers stung the Raze for 11 points apiece in helping to build the Stereco lead. Sims moves to a hopeful 3-4 with the win – their third outside their own division – while the defending Western Division champs drop to a dangerous mark of 2-5.

P.W.O.P. vs Naughty Figs
14   40

The Naughty Figs have tied a franchise mark for best start after seven weeks with a 40-14 victory over Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ at Fenway Park in Boston. Figs Chad Pennington, Fred Taylor, and Jerry Porter each had 7 point or more, and the pesky Seahawks defense harassed Pirk for 15 points. Unfortunately for the Profiteer$, they inflicted as much damage to themselves as their Eastern Division opponents did. Ahman Green had his best game since Week 1 with 14 points, but four of his teammates, including Steve McNair and Randy Moss, were shut out completely. With the win, the 5-2 Figs move into a first-place tie with The Pimps over the East, while their fourth straight loss drops P.W.O.P. to a league worst 1-6.
