Week 7 Previews

Thomas' Bock Boys at Jody's C.W.O.T.
(3 - 3)   (2 - 4)
at Falcon Stadium, Colorado Springs, Colorado
series history: Jody leads 4-2
last meeting: Championship Week, 2003
THOMAS 55, Jody 36

The first of five interdivisional games on tap for Week 7 pits two storied franchises headed in seemingly two different directions. Thomas' Bock Boys and Jody's Colossal Waste of Time are familiar postseason foes, having split a pair of Championship Week contests in the past two seasons. Jody has stumbled out of the gates in 2004, and their 2-4 record is their worst after 6 games since 2001. The defending Super Bowl Champions started slowly as well but are coming off a huge 58-0 crushing of the Hellions that has evened their record at 3-3.

Now, the two clubs descend on Air Force's Falcon Stadium in Colorado for the latest chapter in Bock Boy-C.W.O.T. lore. Bockster Daunte Culpepper has been one-man juggernaut, scoring 20+ points in three of six games this season. Behind him is the ever-dangerous Priest Holmes, but at least Jody won't have to worry about the surging Plaxico Burress, who is out on bye. Hoping to counter, the C.W.O.T. will run lots of Deuce McAllister at Thomas, and – should they be healthy – Chris Brown, Javon Walker, and Drew Bennett as well. But if they can't go, not even the Air Force may have enough backup to slow down Thomas' assault.

victims of the bye week:
Thomas - REC Burress, REC Conway
Jody - REC Coles, REC Johnson

Irwin Hellions vs The Pimps
(3 - 3)   (5 - 1)
at Bronco Stadium, Boise, Idaho
series history: Irwin leads 7-3
last meeting: Week 4, 2003
IRWIN 26, Pimps 9

For the second time in three years, Boise State's blue astroturf will host Week 7 FLF action as The Pimps and Irwin Hellions each look to break back into the win column. The Pimps are nursing their first loss of the season last week against the Figs, while the Hellions are looking to pick themselves up off the mat following an embarrassing 58-0 rout at the hand of the Bock Boys.

Not much went right last week for the Hellions. Even Donovan McNabb – who once seemed like a lock for first-half MVP – was held to only 2 points. Things don't look great this week either, as Irwin's most explosive receiver, Andre Johnson, will be out on bye. From the other sideline, the Eastern Division leaders will also be lacking some star power as David Carr and Kris Brown sit this one out. And although The Pimps have only won 3 of 10 career meetings with Irwin, they are 1-0 on Boise's blue turf.

victims of the bye week:
Irwin - RB Davis, REC A. Johnson
Pimps - QB Carr, K Brown, DEF Houston

P.W.O.P. vs Naughty Figs
(1 - 5)   (4 - 2)
at Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
series history: P.W.O.P. leads 3-2
last meeting: Week 1, 2003
Figs 46, P.W.O.P. 47

Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ look to stop the bleeding as they meet up with the surprising Naughty Figs for the first professional football game at Boston's Fenway Park since 1968. Pirk has slumped to a league worst record of 1-5, yet has won three straight over the Figs by a combined score of 134-75.

To extend that streak to four and keep any realistic playoff aspirations alive, P.W.O.P. will need big games from the likes of Steve McNair (who tossed four interceptions in last week's loss to Piana) and Ahman Green, particularly if Randy Moss is unable to go. The Figs, who will have to go for Win No. 5 without Clinton Portis (bye), will likely counter with a run-and-shoot attack featuring Chad Pennington, Fred Taylor, and Joe Horn. As an undercard to Game 2 of the World Series, the Fenway faithful should get their money's worth.

victims of the bye week:
P.W.O.P. - REC Bradford, REC Ward
Figs - RB Portis, REC Gardner

Piana Raze vs Sims Stereco
(2 - 4)   (2 - 4)
at Robertson Stadium, Houston, Texas
series history: Piana leads 6-2
last meeting: Week 3, 2003
Sims 21, PIANA 42

The Piana Raze and Sims Stereco put identical 2-4 records on the line as they meet at the University of Houston's Robertson Stadium. The Raze are coming off an important 36-16 win over P.W.O.P., while the Stereco are just happy to be out of divisional play for a week. Mike Vick and company are 2-0 against the West but a dismal 0-for-4 in the East.

The Raze will welcome back Tiki Barber into the starting lineup following his bye, but they will have to go without Jamal Lewis, who is beginning a two-game suspension from the league. This could mean all four receivers on the roster will see playing time against the Stereco, whose Saints defense surrendered a record 605 yards last week against the Brewmeisters. On offense, Sims will be at full strength, unleashing Vick, Marshall Faulk, and Terrell Owens in hopes of rallying the team to victory under the Texas sun.

victims of the bye week:
Piana - RB Barlow, DEF Pittsburgh
Sims - none

Game of the Week
Abstract Machines vs Anderson Brewmeisters
(4 - 2)   (4 - 2)
at Bulldog Stadium, Artesia, New Mexico
series history: Anderson leads 5-2
last meeting: Week 11, 2003
ANDERSON 41, Machines 25

The FLF Gameday Roadshow heads to Artesia, New Mexico for a huge interdivisional meeting between the 4-2 Abstract Machines and the 4-2 Anderson Brewmeisters. Both clubs come into this one riding sustained winning streaks with the Machines having won three straight and the Brewmeisters four.

The Machines owe a lot of their early season success to the draft. A year removed from cutting Marshall Faulk and Corey Dillon, they were able to finally reload on draft day with Tom Brady, Curtis Martin, and Duce Staley. Martin actually leads all running backs in scoring after six weeks, and he'll have added responsibility with Staley out on bye. Returning from his own bye will be Marvin Harrison, who's off to an incredibly slow start considering how he's torched defenses in the past. Rounding out the lineup is the aggressive Ravens defense, fresh of their own by and eager to harass the Brewmeister playmakers.

Those playmakers – Peyton Manning, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Torry Holt – are a big reason for Anderson's undefeated month. Manning is the second-most dangerous QB (behind the superhuman efforts of Culpepper), and Tomlinson and Holt are in the top 5 of their respective positions as well. Furthermore, their first-round pick Patriots defense has been solid, actually matching the Machines' Ravens unit point-for-point. If they can corral Curtis Martin in heads-up play on Sunday, then Anderson has a great shot at making it three in a row over their Mechanical opponents from the West.

victims of the bye week:
Machines - RB Staley
Anderson - none
