Week 5 Recaps
Monday Night Mayhem

Three games saw their outcomes shift as a result of a crazy Monday Night, and The Pimps remain perfect through five. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Piana Raze at Irwin Hellions
41   44

Brett Favre overcame a four-point deficit and three interceptions under the Monday Night lights as the Irwin Hellions avenged last season's Championship Week loss to Piana, 44-41. Favre, starting in place of the resting Donovan McNabb, found the endzone late in the game to seal the victory, despite struggling for most of the night.

The Raze put the heat on the veteran Hellion QB thanks to a big Sunday performance. Marc Bulger and Tiki Barber each had 13 for the visiting Raze, and their new Steeler defense hit Irwin for 10 more. The Hellions fought back with 11 from Edgerrin James and a game-high 15 from sophomore receiver Andre Johnson, leaving the victory within Favre's reach. The Raze fall to 1-4 despite the inspired showing; a far cry from their 4-1 mark this time last year. The 3-2 Hellions snap a two-game losing streak with the win and remain at the top of the Western Division standings.

Thomas' Bock Boys at Abstract Machines
35   40

The Abstract Machines took advantage – albeit in dramatic fashion – of a handicapped Bock Boy squad to claim a 40-35 divisional victory over Thomas. The Boys played without a starting defense and seemed ripe for the picking, at least on paper.

Bock Boy QB Daunte Culpepper didn't get the memo, however, and punished the Machines for a gargantuan 5 touchdown, 25 point assault. Plaxico Burress, making his first start back in Bock Boy Purple & Gray, benefited from Culpepper's big day with 10 points of his own. The Machines' dynamic duo of Tom Brady and Curtis Martin only combined for 11 points, and the rest of the offense became bogged down as well. Thankfully for the home town crowd, the Machines' Ravens defense struck back Sunday Night, blasting Thomas for 26 points and pulling the Machines back to within a single point. Donald Driver then completed the rally on Monday Night, scoring 6 points to send the defending Super Bowl champs to their third loss of the young season. The Machines, meanwhile, move to 3-2, tied with the Hellions atop the West.

The Pimps at P.W.O.P.
34   30

The Pimps held off a furious Monday Night rally from P.W.O.P. to claim a 34-30 victory in Oil Town. Pimp signal caller David Carr had a career day with a game-high 17 points, and halfback Shaun Alexander clocked in an impressive 11 of his own. Profiteer Randy Moss matched Alexander's 11, but three of his teammates failed to reach 4 points, leaving Pirk in a sizeable hole after Sunday. Quarterback Steve McNair and the Titans defense answered the rally call, posting 12 and 14 points, respectively. Yet the fading Ahman Green was shut out entirely, leaving P.W.O.P. five points shy of a win over their cross-division rivals. The win is the fifth in a row for The Pimps and also their third over a club from the Western Division. The loss sends Pirk staggering down to 1-4, their worst start to a season in franchise history.

Naughty Figs at Anderson Brewmeisters
19   38

The Anderson Brewmeisters blitzed past the Naughty Figs for their third straight victory on the season and fourth straight over their Eastern Division foe. The Brewmeisters were led – to no surprise – by Peyton Manning with 11 points and LaDainian Tomlinson with 10. Rookie kicker Nate Kaedling also chipped in with 10, and their Patriots defense robbed the Figs of 13. The visitors were led offensively by Chad Pennington and his 7 points, but they couldn't claim a single position advantage over Anderson. The loss is the second straight for the Figs, who fall back into a second-place tie with the now 3-2 Brewmeisters.

Jody's C.W.O.T. at Sims Stereco
37   18

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time snapped a three-game losing streak by defeating the collapsible Sims Stereco 37-18. Sims had the league's worst showing of the week, with only one offensive starter scoring above four points (Larry Fitzgerald with 8) and a franchise quarterback (Vick) who landed in the negative for the second time in three games. Despite their shortcomings, Sims went into Monday Night with a lead. Desperate for a win, C.W.O.T. starters Chris Brown (14 points), Drew Bennett (7), and Javon Walker (11) delivered big time as Jody ran away with the win. Both clubs now sit at 2-3 on the year, three games back of the red-hot Pimps.
