Week 4 Recaps
Thomas Shuts Down Figs

Priest Holmes helps cool the streaking Naughty Figs, while Piana proves to be no match for the undefeated Pimps. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Thomas' Bock Boys at Naughty Figs
15   9

Thomas' Bock Boys rallied out from under a defensive slugfest to top the previously undefeated Naughty Figs, 15-9. The two defenses combined for 39 points, putting a premium on any offensive production.

Thomas fared better in that department, with five players scoring 4 or more points on Sunday. The Figs couldn't match that, as only Clinton Portis and Sebastian Janikowski could muster as many as 5 points for the home team. Chad Pennington, fresh off a bye following two 10+ outings, was held to a single point against a swarming Bock Boy defense. Amazingly, thanks to a 24-point effort from the Figs' just-signed Jets defense, the home team clung to an 8-point lead heading into Monday night. That was when Bock Boy Priest Holmes took over, scoring 12 points under the lights to catapult Thomas to victory.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the defending Super Bowl Champions and evens their 2004 record at 2-2. The Figs found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard for the first time this season, yet remain as one of only two teams to have three wins through four weeks.

The Pimps at Piana Raze
39   24

As they had promised in the days leading up to the game, The Pimps "took it to the streets" at En Fuego Field, routing the Piana Raze 39-24. The Eastern Division leaders – who were without Shaun Alexander – did most of the damage instead with the Texas two-step of kicker Kris Brown and the Texans defense, who combined for 30 points.

Offensively, The Pimps were led by pick-up Warrick Dunn with 7 points, three starters finished with 3 or less. Piana was led by rookie receiver Michael Clayton (8 points), and had three other starters post 7. The home-town Raze were practically done in, however, after their Carolina defense posted a goose egg fresh off their bye week. The loss drops the defending Western Division champs to 1-3, while the win finds the surprising Pimps at 4-0 and the lone unbeaten team in the league.

Anderson Brewmeisters at Jody's C.W.O.T.
33   22

The Anderson Brewmeisters continued to do what they do best in Week 4 -- beat up on Jody's Colossal Waste of Time. Jody actually put together its best effort of the season, but the Brewmeisters clocked in the week's best overall performance for the second straight week, sending the C.W.O.T. to their third loss in as many weeks.

LaDainian Tomlinson led all offensive scorers with 11 points, and Brewmeister teammate Eric Moulds brought in 9 more. Jody got a solid game from DeShaun Foster (9 points), and five other players each tallied 4 or 5. Yet the C.W.O.T.'s chances were crushed on the other side of the ball, where Anderson's Patriots defense nearly doubled up Jody's Dolphins squad 23-14. The win evens out the Brewskies record at 2-2, while Jody falls to a division worst 1-3.

Sims Stereco at Irwin Hellions
38   28

The Sims Stereco rebounded from last week's 54-11 loss to upset the Irwin Hellions 38-28 at the Hellhole. Stereco receiver Terrell Owens continued his strong start to the season with 9 points, and Marshall Faulk ran for 7 more. Hellion quarterback Donovan McNabb was finally held to under 10 points (6), and halfback Domanick Davis was scratched due to an injury. Yet the home team rallied behind strong games from Andre Johnson (9 points) and Edgerrin James (8). David Akers and Sims' new Saints defense provided the fatal blow to Irwin, as they outscored Todd Peterson and the Raider "D" 21-3. The loss is the second straight for the Hellions and evens their record at 2-2. The win is Sims' second of the season against a Western opponent and squares their overall record at 2-2 as well.

Abstract Machines at P.W.O.P.
40   31

In complete contrast to the Bock Boys-Figs game, the Abstract Machines and Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ opted out of playing defense this week. The Machines' Ravens squad and Pirk's Titans unit each produced zero Points-Against. With the fate of the game resting squarely in the offenses' hands, the Machines' Tom Brady and Curtis Martin – fresh off their bye weeks – each posted double-digits in points to lead the visitors to victory. P.W.O.P. got support from Jason Elam (12 points) and Rudi Johnson (9), but two receivers failed to produce anything in the losing effort. With the win, the Machines move to 2-2 and into a first-place tie with Irwin and Thomas. Pirk slips a game back at 1-3.
