Week 3 Previews

The Pimps at Jody's C.W.O.T.
(2 - 0)   (1 - 1)
series history: Pimps lead 11-4
last meeting: Week 13, 2003
Jody 33, at PIMPS 37

Week 3 kicks off with the undefeated Pimps traveling to The Vortex to take on Jody's Colossal Waste of Time in a renewal of one of the great Eastern Division rivalries. It's actually only considered a rivalry because each franchise has won the division title three times in the league's seven-year history. On the field, however, The Pimps have won an astonishing eleven straight regular season meetings with the C.W.O.T.

The Pimps may have to rely on some backups if they're to make it twelve in a row, however. Newly drafted (and Week 2 stars) Jake Delhomme and Corey Dillon will sit this one out on bye, leaving veterans Shaun Alexander and Isaac Bruce to lead the offense. The 1-1 C.W.O.T. will be missing some key players as well, although it's not just for a week. Deuce McAllister and Todd Heap are both out for a few weeks with injury, leaving the defending division champs particularly thin for their second straight divisional showdown.

victims of the bye week:
Pimps - QB Delhomme, RB Dillon
Jody - none

Sims Stereco at Anderson Brewmeisters
(1 - 1)   (0 - 2)
series history: Sims leads 7-5
last meeting: Week 10, 2003
Anderson 4, at SIMS 19

The Sims Stereco pay a visit to Saint Arnold Stadium and the Anderson Brewmeisters for a battle between struggling Eastern Division foes. Revenge may be on Anderson's mind, as while both clubs missed out on the playoffs last season by a single game, it was the Stereco who swept the season series with the Brewskies.

Sims dodged an 0-2 start with a comeback victory over P.W.O.P. last week, while Anderson watched a lead slip away against the Hellions to remain winless. The Stereco may no longer have Ricky Williams, but they do have Michael Vick and Terrell Owens, who are doing everything they can to keep the Red & Gold in contention. Anderson has big game players as well, but Peyton Manning and LaDainian Tomlinson's double-digit efforts have yet to produce a win. The Brewskies may be at a disadvantage for this one, as first-overall pick Patriots defense will be sitting out on bye.

victims of the bye week:
Sims - QB Bledsoe, RB Davis, REC McCareins
Anderson - DEF New England, REC Branch, REC Moulds

Naughty Figs at Abstract Machines
(2 - 0)   (1 - 1)
series history: tied 2-2
last meeting: Week 12, 2003
MACHINES 49, at Figs 21

The Naughty Figs meet the Abstract Machines for the only Week 3 contest featuring two winning clubs from a week ago. The surprising Figs toppled Jody to improve to a 2-0, while the Machines rallied past Piana to raise their mark to 1-1.

Although winning streaks are on the line, a lot of the players who contributed to those wins won't be in the huddle for this one. The Figs will have to go without three starters from a week ago as Chad Pennington, Santana Moss, and the Bills defense are all out on bye. Unproven Joey Harrington will get the start for the Figs, but can he come close to Pennington's 10.5 points-per-game average? The Machines will be without some weapons as well. Tom Brady and Curtis Martin (14.5 ppg) will give way to Trent Green and T.J. Duckett as the Machines look to make it two in a row.

victims of the bye week:
Figs - QB Pennington, RB McGahee, REC Moss, DEF Buffalo
Machines - QB Brady, RB Martin

Piana Raze at Thomas' Bock Boys
(0 - 2)   (1 - 1)
series history: Thomas leads 6-3
last meeting: Super Bowl VII, 2003
Piana 44, vs THOMAS 45

The buzz surrounding the first rematch of Super Bowl VII has been tempered by the combined 1-3 record of the Piana Raze and Thomas' Bock Boys. Piana has looked horrible in starting the season 0-2, while Thomas lit it up in Week 1 before getting shut down last time out.

The Raze did manage to show signs of life on offense last week against the Machines, but they may need Jamal Lewis and Kevan Barlow to raise their game even more in order to compensate for the comatose receiving corps. Thomas, meanwhile, may have to rely on quarterback Daunte Culpepper and draftee Quentin Griffin this week as Super Bowl MVP Priest Holmes is nursing an ankle injury. At 0-2, Piana is no longer concerned with avenging their Championship defeat; rather, they just need a win, period.

victims of the bye week:
Piana - DEF Carolina
Thomas - REC Muhammad

Game of the Week
Irwin Hellions at P.W.O.P.
(2 - 0)   (0 - 2)
series history: Irwin leads 11-4
last meeting: Week 12, 2003
IRWIN 52, at P.W.O.P. 13

Pirk's Winless Oil Profiteer$ make their 2004 home debut as they host the undefeated Irwin Hellions in Week 3's Game of the Week. Often, desperation makes for good drama, and in this case a P.W.O.P. loss would put them three games back in the West after just three weeks of play.

0-2 isn't what Pirk had expected to start the 2004 campaign. Following two straight heart-breaking losses to Thomas (the first in last season's playoffs), Pirk fell apart against the Stereco last week and find themselves up against the wall early. Steve McNair, Ahman Green, Rudi Johnson, and the Titans defense were each held to under 5 points in the loss to Sims, and the Oil Men will need far better production to keep up with the fast-starting Hellions.

Irwin has emerged as an under-the-radar 2-0 to start the season. They're the only playoff team from a year ago to remain undefeated, and they account for half of all Western Division victories so far. Donovan McNabb has been a beast, averaging 17.5 points in two games. Halfbacks Edgerrin James and Domanick Davis have combined for an impressive 15.5 average as well. What's most impressive is that they're winning so impressively with last year's team; first round pick Chris Chambers was with the team last year, and the three other picks have yet to break into the starting lineup.

victims of the bye week:
Irwin - none
P.W.O.P. - RB Henry
