Week 2 Previews

Thomas' Bock Boys at The Pimps
(1 - 0)   (1 - 0)
series history: tied 2-2
last meeting: Week 9, 2003
Pimps 15, at THOMAS 24

Thomas' Bock Boys hit the road in Week 2 to take on The Pimps in the first of three interdivisional contests on tap. Both clubs are coming off divisional victories in the season's opening week and are looking to go to 2-0 heading back into divisional play next week.

The defending Super Bowl champs flexed their muscle in last week's victory over P.W.O.P.. Three players – Daunte Culpepper, Priest Holmes, and Quentin Griffin – scored 15 points or better, and the special teams and defense contributed 10 apiece. The only concern the Bock Boys might have is in their receiving corps, where three starters only managed a combined 5 points in the win. The Pimps weren't complete slouches on their own last week, with three starters posting 8 or more points in the victory over Anderson. Unfortunately, their biggest weapon – Shaun Alexander – suffered a knee bruise and is listed as questionable for this week's game. With or without him, The Pimps may need additional players to step up if they're to end their six-game losing streak against Western Division opponents.

Irwin Hellions at Anderson Brewmeisters
(1 - 0)   (0 - 1)
series history: Anderson leads 4-2
last meeting: Week 3, 2003
Anderson 2, at IRWIN 21

The league's only two-Super Bowl-Champion franchises meet as the Irwin Hellions (winners in 2000, 2001) head the Saint Arnold Stadium to meet the Anderson Brewmeisters (1998, 1999) in interdivisional play. The Hellions are coming off an impressive home win over the Abstract Machines, while the Brewmeisters have their home opener following a road loss against The Pimps.

Donovan McNabb lit up the scoreboard for the Hellions in Week 1, throwing for 20 points, and halfback Domanick Davis ran for another 10. Davis and Edgerrin James, however, also lost four fumbles in the win; similar mistakes on the road could be hard to overcome. Anderson certainly doesn't need the additional possessions to help score points. Peyton Manning, LaDainian Tomlinson, and Brian Westbrook combined for 27 points against The Pimps and are eager to avenge the 21-2 rout they suffered in the Hellhole last year. The 2 points the Hellions held them to was Anderson' s lowest point total in franchise history.

P.W.O.P. at Sims Stereco
(0 - 1)   (0 - 1)
series history: Sims leads 5-4-1
last meeting: Week 9, 2003
SIMS 48, at P.W.O.P. 45

The first of two matchups featuring a pair of opening week losers pits Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ against the Sims Stereco. P.W.O.P. has lost its past two meetings with the Stereco – both in Oil Town and both by a field goal – and will need a reversal of fortune to avoid an 0-2 start.

P.W.O.P. proved that even in last week's loss to Thomas, they remain an offensive force to be reckoned with. They once again scored over 40 points, thanks largely to Ahman Green (15 points) and fifth-round pick Jason Elam (11). Sims had reasonable success in the run-and-shoot, with Marshall Faulk scoring 8 points and Terrell Owens posting 12. With any luck, this one will come down to Monday night, when Owens and Randy Moss go head-to-head.

Abstract Machines at Piana Raze
(0 - 1)   (0 - 1)
series history: tied 7-7
last meeting: Week 9, 2003
MACHINES 28, at Piana 26

The second matchup of Week 1 losers has the Piana Raze hosting the Abstract Machines in their home opener at En Fuego Field. The Machines fell to Irwin last week at Purgatory Field, while Piana was embarrassed – although the score may not reflect it – by Jody at The Vortex.

The Machines got a pleasant surprise last week by 31-year old Curtis Martin, who ripped the Hellions for 16 points. Unfortunately, no other starters scored more than 5, and quarterback Trent Green was held to just a point, fueling speculation that first-round pick Tom Brady could get a shot behind center this week. Piana had the worst opening week in the league, with five players – including Jamal Lewis – posting only three points or less. The Super Bowl runner-ups will need a much more inspired showing if they're to avoid an 0-2 start.

Game of the Week
Jody's C.W.O.T. at Naughty Figs
(1 - 0)   (1 - 0)
series history: Jody leads 6-2
last meeting: Week 10, 2003
Figs 34, at JODY 36

Two other undefeated clubs get a go at each other as Jody's Colossal Waste of Time visits the Naughty Figs in the Week 2 Game of the Week. Heading into this game, the defending Eastern Division Champion C.W.O.T. have won five straight meetings with the Figs.

Of course, those five wins are in the books, and history itself can't win a game. Despite escaping Week 1 with a "W", Jody had one of the worst performances in the league. Only one offensive player (Aaron Brooks) scored more than 5 points, and two other players (Chris Brown and Steve Smith) left the game with injuries. The C.W.O.T. will need some healthy bodies to produce if they're going to win their first divisional contest of the season.

The Naughty Figs are riding high following their 34-27 victory over the Stereco last week. Having only won three games all of last season, getting one right out of the gate is huge, not to mention winning at the expense of a team that has dominated them in the past. Now they have a chance to end another losing streak against the reigning division champs, particularly if Chad Pennington and Clinton Portis can reach double-digits for the second straight week.
