Week 11 Previews

The Pimps at Naughty Figs
(4 - 6)   (2 - 8)
series history: Figs lead 4-3
last meeting: Week 2
Figs 27, at PIMPS 31

The Pimps visit the Naughty Figs in a clash of struggling Eastern Division teams. The defending division champion Pimps have lost six of their last eight and are danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in six years. The Figs have dropped three straight and are off to the worst start in the franchise's four year history.

Playing spoiler is nothing new to the Figs, and they'll get their shot over the final three weeks having already been eliminated from playoff contention. Chad Pennington, who has been brought in to spell Matt Hasselbeck at quarterback, has flourished in his past two games. Fig halfback Clinton Portis should give The Pimps further problems as he returns from his bye to rush alongside Fred Taylor. The visitors will counter with a lot of Shaun Alexander on offense, and they'll rely on their exceptional special teams and defense to put the clamps on the Figs. A Pimps' win would give them a season sweep over the Figs and even the lifetime series at 4 wins apiece.

Anderson Brewmeisters at Abstract Machines
(5 - 5)   (5 - 5)
series history: Anderson leads 4-2
last meeting: Week 13, 2002
Machines 17, at ANDERSON 66

The Anderson Brewmeisters look to rebound from an embarrassing showing last week when they travel to meet up with the red-hot Abstract Machines in an interdivisional contest. The Brewmeisters were stunned by the Stereco in Week 10, 19-4, knocking them from atop the Eastern Division and out of the immediate playoff picture altogether. The Machines have won two straight to even their record at 5-5.

Anderson needs desperately what the Machines now have: defense. The Machines used a 28-point effort last week from their Ravens squad to cripple the Hellions while the Brewmeisters could only watch as their Vikings squad gave a point away. In three starts, the Vikings have posted games of 0, 0, and (minus) 1 points. In those same three weeks, the Ravens have posted efforts of 15, 17, and 28. The Brewmeisters can only hope they have enough on offense to outlast the Machines and break back into the playoff picture.

Thomas' Bock Boys at Irwin Hellions
(6 - 4)   (5 - 5)
series history: Irwin leads 6-2
last meeting: Week 1
IRWIN 39, at Thomas 35

Thomas' Bock Boys are looking to exorcise some serious demons when they visit the Irwin Hellions and their personal House of Horror in Week 11. Indeed, Purgatory Field has not been kind to the defending division champions. Since entering the league, Thomas has gone 0-4 in the Hellhole while being outscored by a combined 205-66.

History aside, Thomas needs a win. Having already lost to the Hellions in Week 1, a second defeat would even their records and give Irwin the tiebreak advantage for postseason seeding. The Bock Boys just hope to have something left in the tank, coming off an intense and draining victory over P.W.O.P.. Irwin, meanwhile, was manhandled by the Machines in Week 10 and still needs a victory to become playoff eligible a year after appearing in the Draft Bowl. A great rivalry plus heightened urgency should make for one heck of a game.

Piana Raze at P.W.O.P.
(7 - 3)   (6 - 4)
series history: tied 7-7
last meeting: Week 2
P.W.O.P. 49, at Piana 42

For the first time in three weeks, the Piana Raze and Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ find themselves in separate places within the Western Division standings. The Raze survived a visit to The Pimps last week to move to 7-3, while the Profiteer$ were tripped up in Bockville to fall a game back at 6-4. P.W.O.P. could quickly make that game up and score an important season sweep of Piana with a win over the Raze this week.

Despite having the league's best record, Piana isn't lighting up the scoreboard like its Oil Town opponent. The Raze's last four victories have only been by a combined 13 points, and they have only broken above 30 once in their past five games. The Profiteer$, by contrast, have hit 40 in consecutive games leading up to this week (surprisingly, both losses), and are itching to hang 40+ on the Raze for the fifth consecutive meeting. The Green & Black have won the last four in the series, but none of those victories would be as important as a win this week.

Game of the Week

Sims Stereco

at Jody's C.W.O.T.
(4 - 6)   (6 - 4)
series history: Jody leads 8-6
last meeting: Week 4
Jody 19, at SIMS 38

The East-leading Jody's Colossal Waste of Time gets its second chance at redemption following its Super Bowl VI loss when it hosts the defending world champion Sims Stereco in Week 11's Game of the Week.

In their initial rematch following its 44-22 Super Bowl loss to Sims, Jody was routed again, 38-19, in Week 4. All told, the C.W.O.T. have dropped three straight to the Stereco, and with only a one game lead over Anderson in the division race, they can't afford to suffer a fourth. After escaping last week with a narrow victory over the Naughty Figs, Jody welcomes Aaron Brooks and Deuce McAllister back from their byes. McAllister and fellow halfback Moe Williams are two of the top eight highest-scoring backs in the league, and they figure to play a prominent role in wearing down the Stereco defense.

As defending Super Bowl Champions, Sims has had a rough go at repeating. Before winning their last two games, the Stereco had stumbled out to a 2-6 record. Mike Vick's injury and poor play from the quarterback and defense are mostly to blame. Sims finally shored up the defense last week by signing the Rams, who immediately went out and tagged Anderson for 40-points. Yet in that 19-4 victory, the offense only managed 13 points of its own. With the likes of Ricky Williams, Terrell Owens, and Amani Toomer in the huddle, a repeat performance against the C.W.O.T. could not be tolerated.

As with a lot of late-season games, this is one that both sides really need to win. Jody needs a victory to stay a step ahead of the Brewmeisters, who own the tiebreaker should they finish with the same record. The Stereco, meanwhile, already have six marks in the loss column and are flirting with missing the playoffs and losing the opportunity to properly defend their title. But a third straight victory and a season sweep over Jody would make for an very interesting final two weeks to their season.
