The league's highest
scoring team meets up with one of the league's
lowest this week when Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$
visit the struggling Colossal Waste of Time. Pirk
has averaged over 40 points per game thus far
while Jody has managed to score over 22 just once.
P.W.O.P. will be without one of its many weapons this week as Randy Moss,
who has scored 28 points in the past two games,
sits out on bye. Jody can't breathe too much easier
though, as Steve McNair, Ahman Green, Travis Henry,
and Hines Ward are all expected to suit up and
play. The C.W.O.T. will counter with the likes
of Deuce McAllister, Anthony Thomas, and Laveranues
Coles, but the biggest key for the Pewter and
Black is its Miami defense. If the C.W.O.T. are
to stave off loss No. 4, the Fish will have to
put the clamps on the Profiteer$' attacking offense.
Despite the glaring scoring difference, history
sides with Jody this week; the C.W.O.T. are a
lifetime 7-1 against the boys from Oil Town.

| The Abstract
Machines and Sims Stereco are each looking to
get well in Week 6. The Machines have dropped
two straight games despite scoring in excess of
40 points, while the Stereco have alternated wins
and losses since the beginning of the season.
The Machines have not played poorly in their
recent losses, but there are no moral victories
in the FLF. Receiver Marvin Harrison has exploded
for 32 points in the past two weeks, keeping the
pressure off the developing backfield of T.J.
Duckett and Troy Hambrick. Yet a consistent running
game is needed for quarterback Trent Green and
the rest of the receiving corps to truly compliment
Harrison's production. Sims, by contrast, has
a tremendous veteran backfield in Ricky Williams
and Stephen Davis. Drew Bledsoe and the Stereco
receivers have also been strong early in the season.
This team's greatest fault has been in its defense,
where their first-overall pick Falcon unit has
averaged just 7 points per game.

THOMAS 40, vs Figs 28 |
| |
| The only two
expansion clubs in the league's history meet for
Round 4 in their young series as the Naughty Figs
travel to Bockville hoping to sting the Bock Boys.
The Figs posted their first victory of the season
last week and are looking to claw their way back
into contention. Thomas is coming off a win as
well but has yet to send the fans home happy from
Bockyard Stadium, posting an 0-2 mark at home.
The Figs retooled in the offseason, and the fruits
of their efforts are starting to show up. Fred
Taylor had a huge 14-point game last week, Sebastian
Janikowski is the league's highest scoring kicker,
and even the underrated Bills defense has been
a force to reckon with. Once Matt Hasselbeck and
Clinton Portis get back on track, this team will
be primed to make another late season run. At
2-3, the Bock Boys could benefit from such a run
if they're to successfully defend their Western
Division title. Yet things are already looking
up for the Bockers. Quincy Carter has been a pleasant
surprise in backing up the injured Daunte Culpepper,
and David Boston and Keenan McCardell have re-energized
the receiving corps. If Priest Holmes shows more
of his early-season flash, the West could be in
trouble.

| The Irwin Hellions
and Piana Raze closed out 2002 with a pair of
games against one another. The Raze clipped the
Hellions at Purgatory Field in Week 13 and then
brought the hammer down on the then-defending
champions in Draft Bowl VI at En Fuego Field.
A season later, both the Hellions and Raze are
above .500 and are each looking to claim another
Western Division title.
Irwin comes into this week's game off a humbling
23-point home loss to the Profiteer$. The health
of Edgerrin James has suddenly become a major
concern for the Hellions, who have only one other
halfback on their roster. Moreover, the team's
leading receiver -- first round pick Chad Johnson
-- will sit this one out on bye, putting more
pressure on the defense to keep the Raze in check.
Piana's offense took a hit of its own this week
during practice, as rookie receiver Charles Roger
broke his collar bone and could be out a couple
of months. Donald Driver, Marty Booker, and Ashlie
Lelie still provide viable targets for either
Jake Plummer or Brad Johnson, and, perhaps most
importantly, runningback Jamal Lewis returns from
his bye this week.

| The on-again-off-again
Anderson Brewmeisters look to bounce back into
the win column as they meet The Eastern Division-leading
Pimps in Week 6's Game of the Week.
Anderson comes into this one having lost three
of its last four games and is looking for some
form of offensive consistency. Peyton Manning
has been lights out the past two weeks, passing
for a combined 36 points, but his receivers haven't
been as reliable. Most noticeably, Donte' Stallworth
has only 11 points in five games and may have
played himself out of a job. Unfortunately for
the Brew Krew, their best halfback will miss this
week's contest as LaDainian Tomlinson sites out
on bye.
The bad news for The Pimps, meanwhile, is that
they can barely score points at all. Quarterback
Tommy Maddox has netted zero points in his last
two games, and only one offensive starter (Shaun
Alexander) has scored over 25 points on the season.
The defense has had to come up big in relief,
and has manage to do so more times than not this
season. Yet whether they can cool off Peyton Manning
remains to be seen.
The good news for defending division champs is
that they're already 3-0 in divisional play and
now have a shot an an early-season sweep of Eastern
opponents. For Anderson, this game isn't so much
about divisional positioning as it is about early
season salvation.
