Oil Profiteer$ turned Purgatory Field into a track
meet and then won the race convincingly, running
past the Irwin Hellions 57-34 in Week 5's Game
of the Week.
For the second time this season, five P.W.O.P.
offensive starters reached double digit points
in a victory. Quarterback Steve McNair passed
for a team-high 15, and Halfbacks Ahman Green
and Travis Henry had 12 and 11, respectively.
Randy Moss brought in 10 more and kicker Rian
Lindell put 10 through the uprights. In the midst
of all the damage from the offense, receiver Robert
Ferguson was shut out for the second straight
week. Not that that's any consolation to the Hellions,
who fell behind early and never recovered. Brett
Favre led the home team with 10 points, and Jimmy
Smith -- fresh off his four-game suspension --
brought in 7. Edgerrin James was a game-time scratch,
however, and left the Hellions without a running
game. Even the heralded Tampa Bay defense had
a difficult time with P.W.O.P. offense, stripping
away only 3 irrelevant points.
The win is the third straight in the series for
Pirk, who move to an impressive mark of 4-1. Irwin,
losing yet again at home during the Game of the
Week, drops to 3-2.

| The Pimps played
arguably their best game in a month and then withstood
a C.W.O.T. rally before earning a 26-22 decision
over division rival Jody. Down by nine going into
Monday night, Jody's Martin Gramatica booted five
extra points but missed two long-shot long field
goal attempts from 58 and 60 yards, sending the
C.W.O.T. to their second straight loss.
The Pimps welcomed Shaun Alexander back into the
lineup after his bye week and responded with a
solid 7 point effort from the backfield. Peerless
Price clocked in for his best game of the season,
scoring a team-high 11 points. Fellow receiver
Rod Smith and newly signed kicker John Kasay had
8 apiece, but quarterback Tommy Maddox had a horrible
day, coughing up 3 points to the C.W.O.T. Jody's
Aaron Brooks managed to post 6 points a week after
posting minus-5, and Deuce McAllister and Moe
Williams combined for 20 more to keep the game
close. That was when The Pimps' Cowboy defense
-- making its first start of the year -- secured
the win by out slugging Jody's Dolphin squad 22-13.
The win snaps The Pimps' two-game losing streak
and keeps them atop the Eastern Division at 3-2.
The loss, Jody's 10th straight to The Pimps in
the regular season, drops the C.W.O.T. a game
back at 2-3.

The Piana Raze
continued their improbable start, holding off
the Anderson Brewmeisters at Saint Arnold Stadium,
43-37.
The visiting Raze engineered a very balanced
attack on offense, as Jake Plummer, Tiki Barber,
and Marty Booker each contributed 8 points. Wideout
Donald Driver chipped in another seven and placekicker
Jason Elam booted 12 more as Piana built up a
29-point lead after Sunday. Contributing to the
deficit was the sub par play of the Brewmeister
backfield; LaDainian Tomlinson and Charlie Garner
were held to a combined 9 points a week after
going for 23 against the Figs. Against unthinkable
odds, Peyton Manning led a heroic comeback under
the Monday Night lights. Manning (12 points),
Mike Vanderjagt (8), and Keyshawn Johnson (3)
played inspired football to get back 23 points,
but in the end it just wasn't enough.
The loss drops Anderson back under .500 and out
of first place in the East. With the win, Piana
improves to 4-1 and is off to its best start in
franchise history.

| Don't write off
the Bock Boys just yet. Thomas used a huge second
half to catapult them past the Abstract Machines,
44-41, in a Western Division showdown.
The hometown Machines ran out to an early lead
behind Trent Green's 8 points and the Raider defense's
13. Yet no one else stepped up to deliver the
final blow, and Thomas surged back. Quincy Carter
got his second straight start at QB and made the
most of the opportunity, throwing and scrambling
for 10 points. Priest Holmes (4 points) was held
in check for the second straight week, but the
four-receiver set picked up the slack. Andre Davis
and Tony Gonzales had 5 apiece, and David Boston
returned from his suspension with a monster 14-point
afternoon effort. Yet the game ball just might
have to go to Keenan McCardell, who did just enough
Monday Night (11 points) to keep the Bock Boys
in front of the Machines when Marvin Harrison
put the pressure on with 15 of his own.
The win is the second in three weeks for the
defending division champs, who have clawed their
way into a tie with the Abstract Machines at 2-3.
The Machines have now lost consecutive games despite
scoring 40+ points in each.

| The goalposts
came down Sunday as the Naughty Figs won their
first game of the season and first ever over the
Sims Stereco, 50-37. In the wake of a record-setting
60-point defeat last week, the Figs rebounded
in style by handing the defending Super Bowl Champions
to their third loss of the season.
The Fig halfback tag-team of Clinton Portis and
Fred Taylor finally lived up to expectations,
combining for 28 points in the upset. While Matt
Hasselbeck and his receivers struggled all day,
kicker Sebastian Janikowski benefited from stalled
drives, booting a team-high 16 points. Sims got
10 from his own placekicker, but ultimately failed
to match the Figs' offensive assault. Stephen
Davis and Ricky Williams combined for 15 out of
the backfield, and Drew Bledsoe and Terrell Owens
had 7 apiece in the loss. Sims' underachieving
Falcon unit also lost the defensive battle to
the Figs' Bills team, 9-5. The win keeps the 1-4
Figs two games back of the division leading Pimps
and just a game removed from the inconsistent
Stereco.
