Week 4 Recaps
Manning, Brew Torch Figs

Anderson's 60-point victory over the Naughty Ones is one for the record books, and Sims tops Jody yet again in a rematch of Super Bowl VI. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Naughty Figs at Anderson Brewmeisters
15   75

A week after being held to the lowest point total in their franchise history, the Anderson Brewmeisters came to within a point of scoring the most, routing the hapless Naughty Figs, 75-15, at Saint Arnold Stadium.

Four Brewmeisters posted double-digit points against the Figs, but none more impressively than quarterback Peyton Manning. Perhaps reacting to the rumors of being replaced by Patrick Ramsey, Manning threw for 6 touchdowns and an FLF-record 24 points in the rout. LaDainian Tomlinson also got back on track against the Figs, scoring a season-high 16 points. The Figs could only muster 22 offensive points -- or two less than manning -- and had three players held to nothing. Only street thug Sebastian Janikowksi had a game worth mentioning, scoring 11 points. As the score would indicate, defense was down this game, as the Figs' Bills team and Anderson's Steeler squad combined for just 11.

The 60-point margin of victory is the largest ever in the FLF. The Brewmeisters scored one better a year ago this week, when they downed Jody 76-32. With the lopsided win, Anderson improves to 2-2 while stopping their two-game losing streak. At 0-4, the implosive Figs remain the only winless team of 2003.

Jody's C.W.O.T. at Sims Stereco
19   38

The Sims Stereco flexed their defending champion muscle in Week 4, doubling up Jody's Colossal Waste of Time, 38-19, in the first rematch of last season's Super Bowl. The impressive win is the Stereco's third straight over Jody in a span of only eight games. Before this victory on home turf, Sims claimed a 55-33 decision at the Vortex in last season's Week 13 and then won the league's Championship Game over the C.W.O.T. in San Diego, 44-22.

This week's version of the Sims Stereco was radically different than the one in Super Bowl. Mike Vick, Ricky Williams, and Amani Toomer were all out and Drew Bledsoe, Drew Bennett, and Jabar Gaffney were in. Bledsoe rebounded in a major way from a disappointing Week 3 effort, scoring 12 points for the home team. Halfback Stephen Davis continued the assault with 13 on the ground, and Gaffney and Bennett combined for 11 more in their Stereco debut. The C.W.O.T. couldn't muster any real offense; only Duce McAllister posted more than 3 points (9), and quarterback Aaron Brooks absolutely self-destructed for minus-5 points. Jody's Jaguar defense made good in their first start, beating out Sims' Falcons unit 14-2, but it was too little, too late for the C.W.O.T.

The Stereco victory evens out both clubs' records at 2-2 and snaps Jody's two game winning streak. The loss drops the C.W.O.T. to 1-2 in Eastern Division play, while the Stereco improve to 2-1.

Irwin Hellions at The Pimps
26   9

The Irwin Hellions followed the Stereco's lead, defeating a previously defeated Super Bowl opponent in Week 4. In their second meeting since Super Bowl V, the surging Hellions clubbed The Pimps on the road, 26-9.

The Hellion receiving corps continued to shine, with Andre Johnson, Chad Johnson, and newcomer Joey Galloway combining for 19 points. Edgerrin James failed to make a planned start due to injury, and Stacey mack was held to a single point, forcing Brett Favre to put the ball in the air. And air it out he did, to the tune of a season-high 11 points. The Pimps' recent offensive struggles continued, as only two players (Jerry Rice and Tai Streets) scored above 3 points on offense. Their Packer defense came up big on Monday night with a 15-point effort, but even that was dwarfed by the 21-point clinic put on by Irwin's spot-start Chiefs unit.

The loss is the second straight for The Pimps, who drop back into a four-way tie atop the East while being held to a combined 22 points in the past two weeks. The Hellions improve to 3-1 while winning consecutive games for the first time since Week 5 of last season.

Abstract Machines at P.W.O.P.
40   49

Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ quickly returned to form following last week's loss to the Bock Boys, surrendering an alarming 40 points to the Abstract Machines before posting 49 of their own.

Perhaps more impressive than the offensive outburst for the Profiteer$ is that they did it shorthanded; Travis Henry was a game time scratch with a rib injury, and Robert Ferguson spent most of the game on the sideline. It was Randy Moss who came up big for the home team in their absence, scoring a game-high 18 points. Yet even with Steve McNair posting an additional 12 in his first start of the year, the Machines refused to go away. Following the release of long-time halfback Marshall Faulk earlier in the week, newcomers Troy Hambrick and T.J. Duckett combined for 15 points on the ground. Marvin Harrison broke out of his slump with a Moss-esque 17-point effort, and the Machines found themselves up by 6 heading into Monday night. 176 yards and 2 Ahman Green TDs later, however, the Profiteer$ claimed the high-scoring victory.

P.W.O.P. moves to 3-1 with the win and remains tied for the Western Division lead. The Machines, now 1-2 in divisional play, drop a game back to 2-2.

Piana Raze at Thomas' Bock Boys
39   16

For the first time ever, the Piana Raze marched into Bockville and came out victorious. Using large a collection of ex-Bockers, Piana blew past the home town Bock Boys, 39-16.

The Raze started their fourth different quarterback of the young season this week, handing the reigns over to Jake Plummer, who was drafted then released by Thomas. Plummer seized the opportunity by leading the team with 12 points. Jamal Lewis, a Bock Boy in 2000, continued his hot start with an 11-point effort on the ground. Rounding out Piana's Bock collection, Jason Elam and the Carolina defense combined for 25 more against their former club. Thomas, meanwhile, got most of its offense from its kicker, who scored a team-high 14. Priest Holmes was held a respectable 6, and signee Quincy Carter managed only 4 in his debut.

The loss is already the third of the season for the defending Western Division Champions and their first to Piana since 2000. At 3-1, the Raze have already surpassed last season's win total and remain tied atop the West.
