The Sims Stereco scored an improbable road win over
the Eastern Division Champion Pimps to earn the franchise's
first ever Super Bowl berth. Having upset P.W.O.P. just
last week, the Stereco clipped The Pimps, 39-36, scoring
their fourth straight road win (and sixth overall) while
handing The Pimps their first and only home loss of
the season.
The Pimps, fresh off a bye, took control early behind
strong efforts from their backfield. Mark Brunell tied
his season-best with 13 points, nearly doubling-up Sims'
Michael Vick (7 points). Running backs Shaun Alexander
(11 points) and Jerome Bettis (10) found plenty of lanes
to keep the chains moving, and thus keeping the Stereco's
Ricky Williams (5) off the field. The Pimps were shown
up, however, in the position they were expected to have
an obvious advantage in. Receivers Jerry Rice, Rod Smith,
and Peerless Price combined for a pedestrian 8 points
while Sims' four-deep receiving corps of Terrell Owens,
Keyshawn Johnson, Amani Toomer, and Jeremy Shockey posted
18.
Even after claiming an 11-8 victory in the kicking
game, Sims found itself in a 13-point deficit before
magic struck. The Stereco's highly criticized Giants
defense — who had posted (minus)1 in the final
regular season game before tagging the Profiteer$ with
23 last week — ripped The Pimps for 21 points
in their second-best performance of the year. The Division
Champions' Packers defense — already headed to
the Pro Bowl in two weeks — suffered its worst
game of the season, managing only 5 points against the
visiting Stereco. That staggering defensive reversal
drops The Pimps to 1-3 in their last four Championship
Week contests and sends the 9-6 Stereco to their first
Super Bowl appearance.
