The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Sims Stereco 39
The Pimps 36

The Sims Stereco scored an improbable road win over the Eastern Division Champion Pimps to earn the franchise's first ever Super Bowl berth. Having upset P.W.O.P. just last week, the Stereco clipped The Pimps, 39-36, scoring their fourth straight road win (and sixth overall) while handing The Pimps their first and only home loss of the season.

The Pimps, fresh off a bye, took control early behind strong efforts from their backfield. Mark Brunell tied his season-best with 13 points, nearly doubling-up Sims' Michael Vick (7 points). Running backs Shaun Alexander (11 points) and Jerome Bettis (10) found plenty of lanes to keep the chains moving, and thus keeping the Stereco's Ricky Williams (5) off the field. The Pimps were shown up, however, in the position they were expected to have an obvious advantage in. Receivers Jerry Rice, Rod Smith, and Peerless Price combined for a pedestrian 8 points while Sims' four-deep receiving corps of Terrell Owens, Keyshawn Johnson, Amani Toomer, and Jeremy Shockey posted 18.

Even after claiming an 11-8 victory in the kicking game, Sims found itself in a 13-point deficit before magic struck. The Stereco's highly criticized Giants defense — who had posted (minus)1 in the final regular season game before tagging the Profiteer$ with 23 last week — ripped The Pimps for 21 points in their second-best performance of the year. The Division Champions' Packers defense — already headed to the Pro Bowl in two weeks — suffered its worst game of the season, managing only 5 points against the visiting Stereco. That staggering defensive reversal drops The Pimps to 1-3 in their last four Championship Week contests and sends the 9-6 Stereco to their first Super Bowl appearance.

Jody's C.W.O.T. 38
Thomas' Bock Boys 37

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time edged out Thomas' Bock Boys in arguably the most dramatic FLF playoff game ever to earn the franchise its record-tying third trip to the Super Bowl. Down by one going into Monday Night, Jody's Eddie George ground out 6 points to Bock Boy Antowain Smith's 4 to give the C.W.O.T. a narrow 38-37 victory.

Aaron Brooks paced the C.W.O.T. offensive attack behind his best outing in two months (11 points), hooking up with first-year receivers Quincy Morgan (8) and Plaxico Burress (9) for numerous big plays. Third-overall draft pick Deuce McAllister was held reasonably in check by the Bock Boys, scoring only 7 points after torching Anderson for 13 last week. Seeing the game getting away from his team, Daunte Culpepper willed the Boys back into contention with a season-best 22 points. Half back Priest Holmes racked up another 9 on the ground before leaving the game late with a badly bruised hip. Thomas' three wideouts managed only 8 points, however, and Jody reclaimed the offensive edge behind an 11-7 kicking advantage.

The Wild Card C.W.O.T. then hammered their hosts with a 20-point effort from their Dolphin defense. Amidst the roar of the Bockville crowd, Thomas surged back as its Eagles defense countered with 14 points-against and a defensive touchdown. With the Championship Week home field advantage, the Bock Boys went into Monday clutching a one-point lead, but a victory was not to be. George beat Smith 6-4 to end Thomas' title run, and the 11-4 C.W.O.T. now head to San Diego for Super Bowl VI.
