Wild Card Week Recaps
C.W.O.T., Stereco get Wild

Jody dumps the Brewmeisters while Sims stuns the Profiteer$ on Monday Night, sending both clubs to Championship Week 2002. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Anderson Brewmeisters 21
Jody's C.W.O.T. 37

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time finally scored a playoff win over the rival Anderson Brewmeisters, besting the visiting Brewmen, 37-21, before a rowdy, sold-out crowd at the Vortex. First-year C.W.O.T. halfback Deuce McAllister made his first playoff game a memorable one, running for a game-high 14 points, his second-best output of the season. Eddie George, Deuce's veteran wingman, posted a solid nine points as Jody's backfield combined to out gain Anderson's halfback duo of LaDainian Tomlinson and Charlie Garner, 23-13.

Jody also claimed a victory at the receiver position thanks largely to Quincy Morgan's late game heroics and 12 points. Quarterback Aaron Brooks managed only 6 points, but that was 2 more than a mistake-prone Peyton Manning. Anderson finally managed to claim a slight 13-10 advantage in the kicking game, and then its Steelers defense put the squeeze on the home team. Stripping 22 big points from the C.W.O.T., the otherwise outplayed Brewmeisters suddenly found themselves up by five points heading into Monday night.

And then Zach Thomas and company took the field. Continuing a long-time C.W.O.T. tradition of huge defensive efforts in the playoffs, Jody's Miami defense brought the pain, knocking 21 points off the Brewmeisters' table and sending the C.W.O.T. back to Championship Week for the first time since 2000. The loss, Anderson's first to Jody in three playoff games, puts an end to the Brewmeisters' up and down season. After going 5-0 with two Super Bowl victories in the franchise's first two years, Anderson has now dropped three straight postseason decisions.

Sims Stereco 34
P.W.O.P. 31

As if Jody's Monday Night rally wasn't enough for Wild Card Week, the visiting Sims Stereco up-ended the fourth-seeded P.W.O.P., 34-31, behind a prime time rally of its own. Trailing 31-19 after Sunday, Sims rode the powerful legs of Ricky Williams to victory, as No. 34 racked up a team-high 15 offensive points under the Monday Night lights.

The game started well enough for the Profiteer$ as quarterback Jeff Garcia — who was shut out in last week's loss to Thomas — sliced through the Stereco defense for a game-high 21 points. That performance turned out to be 16-points better than the Stereco's Michael Vick, who was held to single digits for the first time in five weeks. P.W.O.P.'s supporting cast was consistent if not particularly dominating, with each running back and receiver scoring between 3 and 5 points. Yet from the other sideline, all-star receiver Terrell Owens kept the Stereco in the game with 12 big points of his own.

With a kicking stalemate (9-9) on the board, Sims scored yet another improbable defensive victory over an opponent. The Stereco's Giants squad — which had been abused last week for minus(1) point — outplayed P.W.O.P.'s aggressive Saints team, 23-16 to pull the visitors to within 12 heading into Monday. 200+ yards and 2 Ricky Williams touchdowns later, the Sims Stereco were off to the franchise's first ever berth in Championship Week. As for the stunned Profiteer$, their season ends abruptly behind the weight of consecutive losses following an inspired 5-game winning streak.

Irwin Hellions 13
Piana Raze 35

The Piana Raze won the league's Draft Bowl for the second time in as many seasons, downing the Irwin Hellions 35-13 to claim the first overall draft pick in next year's draft. Having clipped the defending champs 20-18 just last week at Purgatory Field, Tom Brady and company ripped their guests by 22 at En Fuego field. Brady posted a game-high 10 points and opened up a running game that saw both Tiki Barber and Jamal Lewis post 9 apiece. The Hellions, by contrast, had three players with 6 but none greater. Even their vaunted Buccaneer defense fell to Piana's Patriots team, 17-13. For the Hellions, it was their worst loss of a forgettable season and sixth straight to close their campaign. The Raze, meanwhile, can celebrate their third win of the season and the franchise's third Draft Bowl victory.
