Week 12 Recaps
Pimps smash Jody, again

The Pimps complete the all-important season sweep of the C.W.O.T. to reclaim the Eastern lead, and P.W.O.P. and Thomas stay close. All this and more in...

The Week That Was in Fantasy League Football

Jody's C.W.O.T. 6
The Pimps 29

For the second time this season, Shaun Alexander led the defending Eastern division champion Pimps past Jody's Colossal Waste of Time. Six weeks ago, Alexander tagged Jody for 27 points; this time around he ran for a game-high 13 as The Pimps routed the C.W.O.T., 29-6. Receivers Jerry Rice and Rod Smith combined for an additional 16 to balance the attack. Jody's offense, by contrast, ground to a halt with it's worst effort of the season, scoring only 16 points. Quarterback Aaron Brooks actually coughed up 2 points to the opposition. Jody's aggressive Miami defense almost doubled up The Pimps' Packers squad 19-10, but it couldn't prevent the rout. With 2 of its 3 losses coming against The Pimps, the 9-3 C.W.O.T. now find themselves a half-game back of the 9-2-1 Pimps in the East. Furthermore, Jody would need a Week 13 victory and a Pimps loss to steal the division title away.

P.W.O.P. 37
Irwin Hellions 28

Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteers completed the franchise's first ever season sweep of the Irwin Hellions and finished off the defending champions' playoff aspiration. Jeff Garcia posted 13 points Monday Night to lead the Profiteers to their fifth straight victory. Hines Ward (11 points) and Joe Nedney (12) also had big games for the P.W.O.P. and help carry them past the Hellions' Buccaneer defense, who stripped 20 points off Pirk. This marks the seventh time this season that the Bucs have posted a 20-plus point effort. Yet the Hellion offense couldn't keep up, even with a combined 19 points from Curtis Martin and Edgerrin James. With Brett Favre and Travis Taylor both held scoreless, Irwin had little hope of holding off Garcia and company. The loss is the fourth in a row for Irwin and officially eliminates them from playoff eligibility. The Profiteer$ meanwhile inch closer to their first division title. All that stands in the way is a Week 13 war with the second-place Bock Boys.

Abstract Machines 18
Thomas' Bock Boys 52

Thomas' Bock Boys killed two birds with one stone this week by romping past the Abstract Machines at Bockyard Stadium, 52-18. First, they stopped a two-game losing streak to stay in position to play for the Western Division next week against P.W.O.P.. Second, they avenged their 2001 Wild Card loss on this very field to the Machines. Following that 25-12 defeat, Thomas swept this season's series with the Machines by a combined score of 74-27. This particular game belonged to Priest Holmes, who outscored the entire Machines offense, 25-23. Daunte Culpepper and Joey Galloway combined for another 25 in the rout, while Corey Dillon provided 9 points and the only highlight material for the visiting Machines. At 3-7-2, the Mechanical Ones have finally been eliminated from playoff contention. Thomas, meanwhile, improves to 8-4 and stays a mere half-game back of the Profiteer$ in the West.

Naughty Figs 39
Anderson Brewmeisters 33

Rich Gannon and Clinton Portis lead the visiting Naughty Figs to an upset victory over the struggling Anderson Brewmeisters at Saint Arnold Stadium, 39-33. Gannon threw for 14 points while Portis churned out 10 more on the ground. Not to be outdone, receiver Koren Robinson hauled in a season-high 12 points to keep the Brewmeister defense off balance. Anderson managed to keep up on offense behind Charlie Garner's 12 points and Joey Porter's 9, but it was their defense that did them in at the end. The Figs Bears defense scored a decisive 10-4 victory over the Brew Krew's Steelers unit to give the franchise its first season sweep over the Brewmeisters. Now having dropped two straight after being on the cusp of playoff eligibility, Anderson has to beat the Machines next week to make the postseason.
