Week 12 Previews

Naughty Figs at Anderson Brewmeisters
(3 - 8)   (5 - 5 - 1)
series history: Figs lead 3-2
last meeting: Week 5
Anderson 28, at FIGS 54

The Naughty Figs won't be going to the playoffs this year, but they still have a shot at another franchise first — sweeping the season series from the Anderson Brewmeisters. Two months ago the Figs tagged a 26-point beating on the Brewmeisters, and Anderson is looking for a small slice of revenge en route to a playoff berth.

The Figs lead the league in opponents' scoring, allowing an average of 42.2 points per game (ppg). If that wasn't bad enough for the visitors, the Brewmeisters scoring offense averages 38.7 ppg, the best in the league. Anderson is coming off a stunning one-point loss to the Figs and must win one of their last two games to return to the playoffs. A win over the very possibly Draft Bowl-bound Figs would certainly do the trick, or will Gannon, Portis and company rally to sweep the Brew Krew?

Sims Stereco at Piana Raze
(5 - 6)   (1 - 9 - 1)
series history: Piana leads 5-1
last meeting: Week 2, 2001
PIANA 43, at Sims 23

The Sims Stereco visit the Piana Raze at En Fuego Field needed one more win to become playoff eligible for the second straight year. The Raze have already seat a franchise record for losses in a season (9) and are another defeat away from hosting Draft Bowl VI.

This offseason, Piana traded its rights to the first overall selection in the Draft for quarterback Kurt Warner. Warner was unproductive in four starts before being sidelined with a broken finger. The Stereco, meanwhile, used the draft pick on Michael Vick, who will get the start this week against the Raze. Following a rough start to the season for both clubs, they made a second trade. This one saw halfback Tiki Barber go to the Raze in exchange for Garrison Hearst and Piana's 2003 2nd round draft pick. Barber now hopes to lead his current team past his former one and keep the Stereco on the playoff bubble.

P.W.O.P. at Irwin Hellions
(7 - 3 - 1)   (4 - 7)
series history: Irwin leads 10-2
last meeting: Week 2
Irwin 31, at P.W.O.P. 38

Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$ are having quite a year. Besides having an opportunity to clinch its first ever Western Division title and being one of the hottest teams around, the Profiteer$ pulled off a major feat in its own right by besting the Irwin Hellions in Week 2. That win was only the second in twelve tries against the three-time defending division champions.

For all that's going right with P.W.O.P., it's going very wrong with Irwin. The Hellions have conceded their Western Division crown and are now clinging to thin hopes of returning to the playoffs. Irwin is the only team from the original eight to have never missed the playoffs; now, at 4-7, the Hellions will need to win out and get some serious help to keep that streak alive. The Profiteer$, who already sport an impressive 5-0-1 division record, would like nothing better than the hammer the final nail into the Hellions 2002 coffin. Furthermore, a P.W.O.P. win coupled with a Bock Boy loss delivers the Division title to Oil Town.

Abstract Machines at Thomas' Bock Boys
(3 - 6 - 2)   (7 - 4)
series history: Thomas leads 4-2
last meeting: Week 4
Thomas 22, at Machines 9

The Abstract Machines return to Bockville and the site of their 2002 Wild Card victory over Thomas' Bock Boys. At 3-6-2, however, the Machines are a long shot to get another shot at Wild Card bliss. It's been a rough year for the Mechanical Ones, but they managed to stun the Hellions last week despite the absence of an injured Marshall Faulk. It might be up to the electrifying Marvin Harrison to lead this week's upset-bid against the Bock Boys.

Thomas has lost two straight games as well as their hold on the Western Division lead. Yet a win over the Machines guarantees them a shot at the title next week against the Profiteer$, so they have very little room for error. Injuries have depleted the Bock Boys' reserves, and they can't afford too many more bruises if they expect to make some waves in the playoffs.

Game of the Week
Jody's C.W.O.T. at The Pimps
(9 - 2)   (8 - 2 - 1)
series history: Pimps lead 8-4
last meeting: Week 6
PIMPS 36, at Jody 29

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time hopes to wrap up its third Eastern Division title in six years when it visits the defending division champion Pimps, who trail by a mere half-game. Jody is red hot, having won five straight since dropping a 36-29 decision to The Pimps in Week 6. Despite that impressive run, the C.W.O.T. have dropped an astonishing eight straight regular season contests against The Pimps. Can Aaron Brooks and the Miami defense finally get it done this week?

The Pimps escaped with a narrow victory last week against Anderson, snapping a two-game losing streak. That win put them in position to get back into the Eastern Division drivers seat with a win over Jody. With a depleted running game, The Pimps will have to rely more than ever on their outstanding receiving corps and aggressive Packer defense to get them past the C.W.O.T.. Both clubs have already locked up playoff berths, but the winner of this game will likely earn a bye come Week 13. Expect nothing short of a war.
