Week 10 Previews

The Pimps at Sims Stereco
(7 - 1 - 1)   (3 - 6)
series history: Pimps lead 7-4
last meeting: Week 8
Sims 32, at PIMPS 41

Just two weeks removed from a Monday Night choke against The Pimps, the Sims Stereco get a shot at redemption as they host the Eastern Division leaders. The Pimps enter the game having suffered their first loss of the season last week, and they saw their division lead over Jody shrink to a mere half-game. For Sims, losing has become somewhat of a recent tradition, with the Stereco losing their last three and four of their last five.

The Pimps, who have already completed a first half sweep of their Eastern Division opponents, will be without three starters from last week; Emmitt Smith, Peerless Price, and kicker Mike Hollis will all be out on bye. This may give the underachieving Stereco an opening to succeed where they failed two weeks ago in scoring the upset victory. Another loss, however, and Sims would be pushed to the brink of playoff ineligibility.

victims of the bye week:
Pimps - RB Smith, REC Price, K Hollis
Sims - QB Bledsoe

Piana Raze at Naughty Figs
(1 - 7 - 1)   (2 - 7)
series history: tied 1-1
last meeting: Week 9, 2001
FIGS 37, at Piana 27

Two division basement-dwellers collide as the Piana Raze visit the Naughty Figs in what figures to be a closely contested but otherwise meaningless game. Both clubs missed out on the playoffs in 2001, and, despite high hopes for 2002, both appear likely to miss out again this year. Despite that, this possible Draft Bowl preview should be a good one.

The Raze are coming into this game on the heels of their only win of the season, an emotional home victory over the Abstract Machines. Tom Brady and Tiki Barber came up huge last week, and the team hopes they can do so again to possibly start a winning streak. The Figs have twice as many wins as Piana, but they haven't tasted victory since Week 5. Rich Gannon has come back down to earth after a hot start, and the Figs' Bears defense has yet to live up to its lofty expectations. Yet two of the team's best players - Clinton Portis and Joe Horn - will return to the lineup following a bye and be called upon to wear down the Raze defense. Both clubs view this as a winnable game; time to see which one just wants it more.

Victims of the bye week:
Piana - RB Green, RB Hambrick, DEF Dallas
Figs - REC McCardell

Jody's C.W.O.T. at Abstract Machines
(7 - 2)   (2 - 5 - 2)
series history: tied 3-3
last meeting: Week 4, 2001
Jody 7, at MACHINES 11

Jody's Colossal Waste of Time brings its three-game winning streak to town for a date with the struggling Abstract Machines. At 7-2, Jody is tied for the second-best record in the league and sits a mere half-game behind The Pimps in the East. The Abstract Machines have endured a painful season, culminating with a loss last week to the previously winless Piana Raze.

Following their lowest offensive point total of the season, the C.W.O.T. will welcome their two primary offensive threats - Aaron Brooks and Deuce McAllister - back into the huddle following their byes. The Machines, of course, counter with the always dangerous Marshall Faulk. Yet the home team will need substantial production out of its receivers and young quarterback if they're to pull off the upset and remain in the playoff race.

Victims of the bye week:
Jody - QB Couch, K Gramatica, REC Davis, DEF Cleveland
Machines - none

Anderson Brewmeisters at Irwin Hellions
(4 - 4 - 1)   (4 - 5)
series history: Anderson leads 3-1
last meeting: Week 11, 2001
IRWIN 28, at Anderson 19

The 4-4-1 Anderson Brewmeisters make their first ever trip to Purgatory Field to take on the 4-5 Irwin Hellions. Between them, the two franchises have claimed the last four Super Bowl Championships with Anderson winning in '98 and '99 and Irwin in 2000 and 2001. Currently in 2002, however, both sit on the playoff bubble, needing to win at least two of their final four games to qualify.

Anderson enters this one having alternated wins and losses for the past month. Last week was a win, however, and now the Brewmeisters are looking to post consecutive victories for the first time since Weeks 9 and 10 of 2001. Their four wins this season already matches their win total from a year ago. As for the Hellions, their five losses is already one more than they suffered through fifteen games last season. MAking matters worse this week, Irwin will be without its Buccaneers defense, which is arguably the best in the league. Can Irwin regroup after its tough loss to the Bock Boys, or is this game destined to be another chapter in the fall of the Hellion Dynasty?

Victims of the bye week:
Anderson - REC Moulds
Irwin - DEF Tampa Bay

Game of the Week
P.W.O.P. at Thomas' Bock Boys
(5 - 3 - 1)   (7 - 2)
series history: P.W.O.P. leads 3-1
last meeting: Week 12, 2001
P.W.O.P. 32, at Thomas 30

Thomas' 7-2 Bock Boys get the first of two remaining shots at their only true competition left in the Western Division race, Pirk's Wicked Oil Profiteer$. Coming off a huge franchise win over Irwin last week, a victory over the 5-3-1 P.W.O.P. would give the division leaders a commanding two-and-a-half game lead with three to play.

The visitors come into town having won four of their last five games to plant them firmly in the playoff hunt. Ahman Green and Jeff Garcia have raised their game over the last month, and an upgrade in defense helped score an impressive win over the previously unbeaten Pimps last week. P.W.O.P. now hopes for that momentum to carry over into Bockyard Stadium and help offset the absence of Travis Henry, who will be sitting out on a bye.

Not to be shown up, the mighty Bok Boyz have now won four straight and can practically taste the division title. Priest Holmes returns from his bye in time to face the Profiteer$, but with good news comes bad, as reports indicate receiver David Boston may be lost for the year. This potentially leaves Thomas shorthanded to go up against the P.W.O.P., who swept the season series from the Boys last season by a combined five points. Another such loss would cut Thomas' division lead into a mere half-game, making the Western race a sprint to the end. Would you need more of a reason to watch?

P.W.O.P. - RB Henry, RB Alstott
Thomas - REC Galloway
