The
Week That Was in Fantasy League Football
| Thomas' Bock Boys |

| Irwin Hellions |

The Irwin Hellions used their Super Bowl-calibur defense
to stop their losing streak and squash the Bock Boys
yet again at Purgatory Field.
In what could best be described as a brutal, 12-round
toe-to-toe battle, the Hellions' Buccaneer defense traded
blows with Thomas' aggressive Eagles squad all night
long. The two best defensive showings in the league
were here in the Hellhole, with Irwin finally claiming
a punishing 24-20 win to assure the home team of the
rout. On the other side of the ball, Brett Favre and
Troy Brown combined for 24 Hellions points, and kicker
Paul Edinger put up another 11 to be sure. Thomas, who
entered the game with some offensive momentum, went
cold against their division rivals. Quarterback Daunte
Culpepper only managed a single point, and the four
receivers combined for a mere 12. The lone bright spot
for the Bock Boys was Priest Holmes, who lit up the
Hellions for a game-high 17, but that mostly kept Thomas
from being shut out altogether.
Just when it had looked as though Thomas was ready
to take that next step, the Hellions regroup at home
and turn the Bock Boys on their heads. Despite the setback,
Thomas remains in first in the West at 2-1 while the
Hellions, now 1-2, begin to climb out of their season-opening
hole.

| Anderson Brewmeisters |

| Piana Raze |
34 |
In possibly the best game of this young season, the
Anderson Brewmeisters came from five back on Monday
Night to salvage a tie on the road against the Piana
Raze, 34-34. The Brewmeisters' Torry Holt gained 139
yards and 7 points on Monday, besting the Raze's Isaac
Bruce and his 42-yard, 2-point performance to force
the tie.
Leading up to Holt's heroics, Brewmeisters Peyton Manning
and LaDainian Tomlinson combined for 23 points in pacing
the visitors' offensive attack. Piana kept pace behind
a superb 18-point effort from quarterback Tom Brady
and Marty Booker's accompanying 8. In the offseason,
these two clubs traded place kickers, and former Brewskie
Mike Vanderjagt won the battle over John Carney and
his old club 11-3. As big as both offenses were, the
two defenses came up large with both Anderson's Titans
and Piana's Patriots stripping 15 points from their
opponent's offense. Amazingly, the tie is the second
in the series, with the first coming in Week 8 of 1999.
Anderson's record extends to 1-1-1 while Piana remains
winless at 0-2-1.

| Abstract Machines |

| The Pimps |
15 |
Two weeks ago, the Abstract Machines were spared a
season opening loss to the P.W.O.P. thanks to their
home field advantage, which lifted the Machines from
certain defeat and into a tie. Well, what goes around
comes around - and lightning apparently does strikes
twice - as The Pimps' home field advantage denies the
visiting Machines their first win of the season, instead
cursing them with an unprecedented second tie.
Unlike their Championship Week clash last season, this
one was ugly and forgettable. The Pimps' Rod Smith led
all scorers with 8 points, and Emmitt Smith - making
his first start with his new team - turned in solid
5 point effort. Yet the same cannot be said for rookie
David Carr, who coughed up a point to the Machines in
his FLF debut. As for the visiting team, Drew Brees
had his first off-game of the year, struggling for only
3 points, but receiver Marvin Harrison helped bail him
out with 6 of his own. The Machines collectively held
their breath when Marshall Faulk went down with a sprained
neck in the first half after scoring only 4 points.
Despite these struggles, the Machines held a decisive
offensive edge, but The Pimps' Colts defense took back
the game with a dominating 18-point barrage. Their Abstract
counterparts, the Rams "D", had another mediocre
performance, only stripping 8 points from The Pimps
total. While not a win, The Pimps dodge a bullet remain
undefeated at 2-0-1, while the Machines manage to put
two in the Tie Column before scoring their first victory.

| P.W.O.P. |
22 |
Jody's Colossal Waste of Time became the league's first
3-game winner after decking P.W.O.P. on the road, 41-22.
Aaron Brooks continued his quick start to the season
with a game-high 16 points for the C.W.O.T.. Anthony
Thomas added 7 more points on the ground while Deuce
McAllister was largely unproductive (2 points) in his
debut. The Profiteer$ struggled all day on offense and
were not helped with Ahman Green being scratched from
the lineup. Steve McNair did manage 9 points and James
Thrash pulled down another 7, but it wasn't near enough
for P.W.O.P. to keep up with Brooks and company. The
home team even surrendered the defensive struggle as
Jody's Browns topped Pirk's Saints 10-7. The loss is
the first of the season for the Profiteer$ and drops
them to a balanced record of 1-1-1. As for the C.W.O.T.,
they've now won five straight contests dating back to
last season.

| Naughty Figs |

The Sims Stereco won their first game of the season
by outgunning their personal aspirin - the Naughty Figs
- 44-33. Stereco quarterback Michael Vick had a much
stronger second outing, outperforming Rich Gannon's
Fig stand-in, Jay Fiedler, 12-7. Ricky Williams had
his third strong game in a row with 12 points, but he
was outshone on this day by the Figs' Lamar Smith and
his 15. Both kickers lit up the scoreboard as David
Akers and Ryan Longwell booted 15 points apiece, but
Sims put the game away on defense, where its Giants
defense claimed a 14-11 victory over the Figs' Bears
unit. The win is the Stereco's fifth in five meetings
against the Figs and evens both teams' records at 1-2.
